This is my second visit to this property as I was here last year. It is not by chance that I returned to it this year. The rooms are extraordinarily well appointed and the view over Oban Bay is exceptional. It's so peaceful to watch the ferries come and go. It's a lovely 10 minute walk along the esplanade to town center and there are plenty of shopping and dining options. There is parking on site which is a huge plus. The owners are wonderfully attentive to each and every guest and you feel welcomed and well accommodated during your stay. I think I enjoy Barriemore as much as I enjoy Oban.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely short stay in Oban at Barriemore accommodation. Perfect location on the shore in Oban bay and a beautifully presented, spacious room for 2 nights. Host communicated very well throughout and made our stay as straight-forward and enjoyable as possible. Would highly recommend this room only destination for a comfortable, pleasant place to rest your head at night. Oban is a lovely place to visit. Just wish the weather was better.

Stayed here to celebrate my mum and dad’s Golden Wedding Anniversary. I wanted it to be special and memorable and it very much was thanks to our experience at the Barriemore. We stayed in the two bedroom self catering apartment with our dog. It was spotless and comfortable with a beautiful view of the bay. Plentiful parking, luxurious beds, spacious apartment and well equipped. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is excellent. Jan was very attentive and thoughtful which we all appreciated. Mum and Dad enjoyed a wee complimentary sherry with their chocolates :) Thank you for a lovely stay. We look forward to coming back again!

This was one of our highlights of our Scotland holiday. It was an unexpected change from our arranged accommodation but boy did we luck out! Delightful room and view, but that was not all, sherry and treats awaited us, a friendly greeting and cosy surroundings, what a delight. Did I mention the fruit bowl at the entrance as you walked in. Thank you Jan & Mark Peter and Laurie

We loved the relaxed vibe, fabulous view from our room, very comfortable conservatory, and welcoming hosts. The property was spotless, beds comfortable, and nice amenities in the room. The location was great, only a 10 min walk from the centre.

Looked for last minute night to Oban and this place came up with best reviewed for what was left in area.Room 1 had smell in room and put this done to room being cold but on putting on heating and going out for food it still smelt when warm. The smell wasn’t offputting enough not to stay but still noticeable .Good points were the mason jars with sherry, tunnocks biscuits and irn bru but think 1 can to share between 2 isn’t right.2 seats at window 1 with part sea view but other faced neighbouring garden.Water in kettle a no no for us and as it has a fridge in room I’m surprised they don’t put small bottle fresh milk for tea and coffee.Bed comfy but mattress makes noise when moving so woke up a few times. Also don’t like the fact it doesn’t do breakfast and it charge £5 pp for coffee and pastry is too much in my opinion.Wouldn’t return.…

Response from Barriemore House Oban, Owner at Barriemore Oban
Responded 7 Oct 2023
HI Derek, I am awfully sorry we are not for you. You did not raise any of these issues with us when you were here and if you did we could have investigated any smell. No one else has reported any smell and as I am in housekeeping each day I can honestly say I am not aware of any smell. The Irn Bru is just a wee extra, a taster for anyone not familiar with it. I think with that, the sherry, the filter coffee, the Yorkshire tea bags, chilled water, and tunnocks biscuits, there is enough in the room. The room you booked was a non sea view, so I am afraid that is what it is. No sea view. We sell the rooms as they are and it is up to each guest to decide if what is available is 'for them' or not. With each room change, we empty the kettles and fill with fresh water so that you don't have to. Sorry again if you did not like this, but it is done with the intention of giving you less to do. If you had asked I would have gladly got you fresh milk, we provide milk sachets in the rooms. We do have to consider wastage. I will be sure to try that mattress out tomorrow! Again regarding breakfast, we advertise as room only, we do not advertise breakfast and again if it's 'not for you' then you don't have to stay with us. That is why we are so up front about what we do offer, so that guests don't end up with something that is 'not for them'. Regarding the charge of £5 for a fresh pastry and fresh filter coffee, I think if you perhaps refer a well known cafe chain for a price check you will find it would cost a you more than we are charging. They are charging £3.10 for similar fresh baking along with a charge of £3.60 for a black americano coffee. Thank you for taking the time to review us.

Very nice, quiet and scenic experience. Easy check in and check out. 10 minute walk from downtown Oban. We had an ocean view and staff provided binoculars for a better view. Nice. Clean rooms. Parking on site. The caretakers work hard to ensure a seamless arrival and communicate well. We would stay again.

Room Tip:Get a coastal view if available. Stairs, so plan accordingly. Dog friendly, but didn’t hear any.

We had a wonderful stay at the Barriemore in Oban! Beautiful view of the harbor and a lovely, comfortable room in an impressive building. We were within walking distance to restaurants and shopping as well as options for boat tours. Would love to visit again and highly recommend to other travelers! Oban is a lovely place as well.
