The Barriemore in Oban was the final accomodation on our long tour of Scotland and we definitely saved the best until last . It was absolutely perfect , beautifully decorated with some contemporary touches along with older features that had been restored . Everything blended expertly . Due to the health restrictions , all arrangements were done by messaging and we picked our key up as directed from the lobby . Stepping into the hallway you are immidiately struck by the craftsmanship, the cleanliness and overall welcoming feel of this beautiful house. Our room was number 6 on the top floor. ,It was more like an apartment . There was a huge very comfortable double bed , a wardrobe ,3 chests of drawers , 2 wing chairs and 3 small tables, even with all this furniture there was still alot of room to walk around . The style was classic and modern combined with a good helping of luxury too. We had 3 windows in total ,the front one's looking out over Oban harbour and Kerrera island in the distance . Our bathroom , again very clean and spacious giving similar views . Plenty of great quality towels and toiletries to help us enjoy our stay. Breakfast was delivered in a picnic box outside the room at 7:30am as described in the messages. Plenty of choice and quantity , with different items everyday . Delicious on both days . Along with a large amount tea and coffee , bottled water from the mini fridge and a can of Irn Bru we didn't want for anything. Location wise , The Barriemore was a short seaside walk into Oban and we really enjoyed sitting outside the house on the benches watching the sunset. We met Mark the host a few times and had great chats with him . He was helpful with directions and very welcoming. Definitely one of the best hotel's we've stayed in ever , all the awards bestowed on Jan & Mark are well deserved .

Years since I have stayed in b&b rather than hotel accommodation. This place was attractive, well situated with stunning views. A family run establishment that could give many hotels I've stayed in lessons in cleanliness, thoughtful touches for the guests and extremely comfortable and attractive bed/bathrooms. Very helpful owner.
Due to covid-19 restrictions the dining room was closed but a breakfast hamper was placed outside my door (silently!) at 7.00am. A banquet of fresh food that fed me for the whole day! Plentiful tea/coffee provided in the room.
The owner should be very proud of this place.

Booked this stay at the last moment without any research and we landed lucky! Not only is Oban a beautiful place but the Barriemore is excellently situated just a few minutes walk from the centre of town facing Oban bay on the esplanade. This gave the guest house an endearing quietness away from the hustle and bustle. Lovely views across the bay to the Isle of Kerrera and further to Mull only added to the enjoyment. The proprietors even left a pair of binoculars available for guest use in the foyer! Well appointed en-suite rooms, exceptionally well presented and with everything a guest could need. Similarly in the bathroom, pleasantly hot showers with oodles of lovely shampoos and gels freely available.
Because of Covid restrictions the dining room was not available, instead breakfast was delivered in a lavish hamper at the desired time each morning.and oh what a sumptuous feast, smoked salmon, ham and cheeses, Two varieties of porridge, bagels, fruit juices, crusty bread and fresh butter and jam as well as fruit juices and fresh milk.servings were very generous and a bag was provided if you wished to take some treats for outings. An absolutely wonderful service! On our first morning we arranged to leave the room early to go on a ferry trip to Staffa and the prop rioters kindly arranged to deliver our food hamper during the previous evening, nobody on the ferry ate as well as us!the house location was perfect for walks on the esplanade and in easy reach of many local attractions, we walked to the Dog Rock, the Lighthouse and the nearby castle.
The housekeeping was complete whenever we returned from an outing even though the staff were completely inconspicuous in their duties. Overall I have to say that this is the best venue we have visited in Scotland for very many years.I would describe it as idyllic!

This is the second time we've stayed at the Barriemore and already we can't wait to go back.
Due to COVID-19 Mark & Jan now operate a digital registration and self check in. This is completely hassle free. It's also reassuring to see all safety measures have been put in place. There is hand sanitiser at the front door and all guests have to wear masks in the public area's.
Our room was spacious and very clean. There is complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits, Irn Brn TV and hairdryer. Did miss my 'welcome nip' this time though 😂
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we couldn't use the breakfast room however, a continental breakfast is delivered to your room first thing in the morning. We stayed for 3 days and received a different selection each day.
If you have a Seaview room like we had the view is fantastic. You could spend all day watching the boats.
It's only a 10 min walk to the centre of Oban where there are lots of restaurants, pubs and cafés.
We can't wait to go back and will be recommending the Barriemore to our friends and family.

We’re just back from a few days here and were looked after really well by Jan and Mark - they are just such great people and nothing is too much trouble. We got to stay in 2 different rooms this time due to adding an extra night on - both spotless and with everything you’d need (including the views). They’ve gone out of their way to make the place as Covid compliant as possible but still keeping all the nice touches. The breakfast hamper delivered to our door every morning had a good choice and more than we could eat. The B&B is at the end of the esplanade so lovely and quiet as well. Will definitely be back for another visit. Thanks xx.

Stayed 2 nights in May at the Barriemore in room #6, a superking ocean view room. This is a contactless environment, meaning no one greets you at check in or out and breakfast is dropped off at the door. Of our month that we spent in Scotland this was the only property like this but it wasn’t a problem. In our world today you have to respect everyone’s individual concerns about Covid and their choices.
The room is spacious and tastefully decorated with spectacular views. Tap water is provided in the small fridge in the room along with coffee/tea. Extras such as Kleenex are provided. The bathroom is large with a tub and shower. Everything is very clean throughout. Breakfast is €10.00 and is delivered at 7:30am. A cold breakfast of juice boxes, boxed cereal, packaged salad with cheese and ham, commercial croissants and fruit. It was o.k. for one morning but there are other options in Oban for breakfast.
A couple of issues would be the very extreme range in water temperature in the shower from ice cold to a VERY unsafe scalding hot. Not pleasant and not an enjoyable shower. Also, our mattress was quite worn, sagging and lumpy therefore needing to be replaced. With these improvements, it would receive 5 circles from me.

Response from Barriemore House Oban, Owner at Barriemore Oban
Responded 12 Aug 2022
HI, Thanks for the lovely review and generous comments. Our way of working now is not due to covid and the reasons are explained to all guests from the point of booking. It is great to read your appreciation of the extras that we include. I apologise regarding the shower. If you had let us know at the time perhaps we could have rectified it for you. I have tried the mattress since you left, we turned it as we do with all our mattresses every 4 weeks. It feels ok to me (not saggy or lumpy) however I will keep a close watch going forward to see if it needs replaced. Thank you for staying with us.

Yet another fantastic 3 night stay at Barriemore for our Wedding Anniversary, superb accommodation and fantastic service from owners Mark and Jan, who treated us like old friends on our arrival.
All Covid regulations we’re immaculately adhered to, for the protection of guests and staff alike, and we were happy to comply to ensure that the ‘Barriemore’ continues to stay open throughout the season, our room was kept immaculately clean during our stay.
Due to the above, their fantastic breakfast room is still not open, but the amazing breakfast hampers delivered to your room every morning, and the option of hot sausage or bacon rolls every morning was a welcome option and more than made up for it.
Our room (guest room B) was amazing with a great sea view and black out and privacy blinds provided as we were on the ground floor. Our suite was very well facilitated, with great fluffy towels and heated towel rail, wonderful smelling hand soap and lotions, tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge with chilled bottled tap water, supplementary fan heater should the weather turn (we never needed it as the room was always warm) and a hair dryer. There was even a small complimentary bottle of Sherry in the room on your arrival.
There was also ironing facilities in the breakfast room and a ‘help yourself service’ for additional tea/coffee, pillows and blankets if you required them?
But best of all is the good old fashioned welcome, hospitality and service provided by owners Mark and Jan, you are an absolute credit to your profession, thank you for looking after us and we look forward to staying with you again in the future.
Kindest regards,
Ian & Linda

We stayed in a ground floor superior double room with seaview and felt immediately relaxed and comfortable. The room and bathroom are very spacious. The room is furnished with dining table and chairs, arm chairs and a huge and very comfortable bed. A perfect space for chilling out on a rainy afternoon. The decor is finished to a high standard, looks fresh, and the room was very clean. Due to Covid the check in is self service and the breakfast is left at the door in a hamper. Both have been very well thought through and work seamlessly. The Taylors coffee bags in the refreshment tray speak to the attention to providing quality. We will happily return.

Mark and Jan are truly great hosts offering excellent accommodation that it comfortable, well appointed and warm. It is clear that customer service is at the forefront of their objective and compliance with Covid restrictions and cleanliness were clear to see. Despite being unable to offer breakfast on their breakfast room, the continental breakfast provided in our room was excellent and varied with Bacon or Sausage Rolls also available.
The rooms are tastefully decorated and we enjoyed the views over the water as we ate breakfast.
We will be back soon 👍

Fantastic place. The Covid measures in place were terrific and much appreciated. I loved the breakfast buckets which can be cleaned & disinfected easily after use. I felt a lot of thought had gone in to how to keep visitors and staff as safe from the virus as possible.
We have visited before and would happily go back again. Since it was a very late booking we weren’t able to get a front room with the fabulous views over the bay, to Kerrera and up the Sound of Mull. Since our stay was so short we didn’t have time to enjoy the view but the very comfortable, clean and quiet en-suite room we had was excellent.
