I think this is one of the best B&B/Guesthouse we have stayed at. We have been so lucky with the weather. Our room (1) was huge with an outstanding view of Oban and the sea. The ferries pass right in front of you. The bed was really comfortable, we both slept really well. En suite shower room and a large built in wardrobe. The attention to detail was excellent. A “wee dram” available on arrival or in your room, binoculars in the room so you could watch the birds and ferries, a fridge, a fan which was very welcomed with the 26 Deg heat! The high- ceiling room was beautifully appointed and of a really high standard. Covid measures has been strictly adhered to. We had our breakfast brought to our room and ate at a table and chairs provided. If you want a comfortable bed in a beautiful large room with idyllic views and lovely staff- Mackays is for you.…
Quieter side of the harbour but still very close to the everything. Iona is lovely and helpful without being in your face. You can ring a bell when you what to see her and other than that she leaves you to get on with your stay. Room was spacious and spotless. Bed very comfortable and the room has a table and chairs for sitting to eat breakfast which is delivered to your room. Great full breakfast and very relaxing to have it in your own room. There isn't a bar in the guest house. This was fine for us and probably saved us a few pounds as we bought our own wine and sat on the patio enjoying the view. Might feel different if the weather isn't good as you would be in your room.
Cannot fault this hotel! Great facilities, location and staff. Whiskey and sherry available during your stay, good breakfast served to your room at a time of your choosing. Comfy bed, clean room and just all round lovely.
We arrived at Mackays for a long weekend for my Dad's Birthday. We were made to feel very welcome from Iona. We had rooms 1 & 6 they were both very spacious and clean. Sherry, tea cakes, Irn-bru, bottled water, teas and coffee in both rooms. Also binoculars in the room was an added bonus. Room 1 had the most beautiful view of the bay. Breakfast arrived to our rooms at our preferred time every morning (up untill 9am). Food was great. Would definitely recommend Mackays to others and we have already made another booking to return. Plenty parking. Short 2 minute walk to the centre.
The whole place has been tastefully refurbished over the winter and we enjoyed the brand new facilities which were impeccably clean. Iona is incredibly welcoming and Covid aware, full Scottish breakfast brought to your room each morning, lovely armchairs by the bay window and binoculars to enjoy the bay view. Can’t fault it! Photo is the view from room 5!
