This former home of a textile baron is constructed in the Scottish Baronial style popularised by Sir Walter Scott and, in fact, sits just across the river from Scott’s home at Abbotsford. The building is impressive, inside and out, and one can only wonder at the cost of construction, especially if converted into today's prices: astronomical, certainly! Once, this lovely,...

From our room we had a direct view on the Abbottsford house, residence of Sir. Walter Scott the Scottish poet and writer, that is less than 5 minutes away by car and an absolutely worth a visit. The employees are very helpful and extremely professional. Traveling with a dog was not an issue. The dining was perfect with local food...

After a miserable dining experience a few weeks ago we have now had our faith restored in the quality of the food and the welcome we received from the waitress/ bar person. We had an exceptional lunch and the fudge with our coffee was to die for.

A lovely country house setting which we used as a base to explore the boarders. Visited with my family..a lovely friendly hotel with really tasty breakfast and evening meals...and a great selection of malt whiskies. Will definitely stay again. Better than the usual chain hotels. Colin Buskiewicz.

A surprise party was planned for my Dads 70th here and we were not disappointed. From the first initial contact to leaving the morning after the party, everything was faultless. Food was amazing, 37 of us and everyone highly rated the food. Staff were fantastic. Bedrooms immaculate and breakfast superb. Will definitely be returning.

After a delightful lunch I stayed overnight in this lovely old house. All the food for the family celebration was excellent. However I want to highlight my own experience, as a vegan of 30 years standing. I have had some very poor offerings from lazy chefs, but it is very clear at Kingsknowes that the owners and chef are committed...

This is a beautifully restored hotel, in an elevated setting between Galashiels and Melrose. It has a gentile elegance but it's not stuffy - just very welcoming and relaxed. We booked the "large double" (Room 14) and it was fantastic. The room was spacious but no so big that you felt lost. It was bright, the cornicing was elaborate, the...

My husband and I have visited this hotel on numerous occasions and from time to time been disappointed either by where out table has been ( at the door) or the quality of the food but I have to say that our evening meal last week was beautiful! Beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The staff are very friendly and willing...
