Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a wonderfully peaceful place. It functions as a b and b for anyone to go to. I had 2 fabulous cooked breakfasts as part of the room price. Other options also available. You can go as an individual just to get some quiet space with beautiful countryside immediately on the door step. Easy to get into Hawick for evening meals or Amanda can cook for you on request. There is a beautiful chapel and reading corners available to use for reflection and prayer for anyone who wants to use the house for spiritual reflection.

Firstly Amanda met me at the bus stop. Never experienced that before. Traveling solo from the States, between engagements and needed a place to stay before the next stop in Edinburgh. Food was amazing, location lovely, clean, well kept historic home, beautifully decorated with period pieces. I only have praise.

We came to Whitchester on retreat with a group from our Parish; we had a warm welcome, our room ( 2) was very comfortable with a great view. We were immediately struck by the sense of peace in the house and its environs....this sense was present throughout the weekend. If you want a reviving break....this is the place to come to!

I came with a group from Edinburgh and we had a wonderful time. Whitchester Christian Guest House is a large victorian villa set in a beautiful garden in a beautiful peaceful valley about a mile from Hawick. Rooms are very spacious and clean with very good ensuite facilities. The house has retained many of the original features with a beautiful hall and stairs and very spacious lounge and dining room. We had lunch , evening meal and breakfast. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed eating in the well appointed dining room. The staff working there were excellent and this helped to create a wonderful ambiance. In summary - wonderful hospitality - I hope to return. Alan

Went to Whitchester for a few days on retreat as I had some big decisions to make and needed some space. The guesthouse is located near Hawick in beautiful countryside and the grounds are very peaceful. Staff are incredibly welcoming and there is a real sense of peace about the place. The twice daily times of reflection were for me personally very helpful and very much spoke to me for where I was at. Food was very good and the rooms were spacious and comfortable and provided a great place to chill. WiFi is excellent too. All in for the price I paid is excellent value. I will definitely be back at some point. Many thanks Howie

Nothing but praise for this place. Uncomplicated basic room with decent meals. Quiet surroundings and with good walks around. Best of all is the company of the current wardens Simon and his wife Amanda who are chatty and friendly, and will pray with you (or for you).

We travelled from Cheshire to stay at Whitchester over the New Year, as part of a party group....The welcome was superb, and all our needs were met, well above our expectation level. What a pleasure it is to see unspoilt, well-maintained surroundings, with fixtures, fittings and furnishings not only of a very high standard, but such a welcome change from the modern plastic monotony of 'standard' décor in very predictable style and colouring. The food was superb... all home cooked, even the bread; locally sourced food, and tasteful seasonal menus. Once again, this was a welcome change from that which we often encounter on our stays..( i.e.. trendy food patterns and sauce squiggles, inspired by watching too many TV Chef programmes !! ). Our hosts on this occasion, Nicky and Dave did us really proud, and the whole establishment is a great credit to the owners and management, that run it so effectively, and managed to give us such a memorable, enjoyable, and great value for money stay.

Our family regularly return for half term getaways to be well fed and cared for in the spacious surroundings of Whitchester house. The hospitality is always impeccable, the food generous, and the location calm and a great base to explore from, or just rest in. We will continue to go back.
