Detailed Reviews
I had a great stay at this lovely hotel. From the warmest of welcomes to (many) plates of delicious food, nothing was too much trouble for the friendly landlord and her staff. A lockable bicycle shed meant I could relax knowing my bike was secure. Highly recommended to all travellers, especially cyclists.

We are house hunting in the Borders area and stayed for one night in order to give us more time for viewings. Received a warm welcome from the couple who own the Inn, easy check in and shown to a lovely room with great views. We were warned in advance that they had a large group booking for dinner, we booked a table to dine earlier than the group to avoid long wait for dinner. Food was excellent, the portions were very generous, Jay was so full he could not manage pudding!
Retired to the bar which had a great open log fire burning. Everybody in the bar was very friendly and we chatted to the locals who told us about the area and even about a couple of house that were for sale nearby.
Booked breakfast for 09:00 the following day and were served the minute we sat down. Again very generous portions and lots of choice.
We are looking forward to a return visit.

We were made welcome at the end of a stressful journey and just taken care of with nothing too much trouble, including making a phone call for us to our bed and breakfast. The menu is straightforward and really well cooked, the beer was well kept and the covid precautions observed and respected. We'll go back.

First class lunch for three served by the (relatively) new hosts who are exceptionally friendly & professional! The ambience of the restaurant was very welcoming and we would recommend the home made soup, tasty tuna sandwiches and great range of desserts. All washed down nicely with draught Old Speckled Hen! 🍺 We shall definitely return.....regularly!

Stayed here for one night and also ate in the restaurant. The owners were very helpful in accommodating a change in our booking and also accommodating my dietary requirements in the restaurant. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The room was small, but clean and comfortable, with the only problem being that the extract fan from the kitchen was just below our window, so until this stopped, we could not sleep. We had to leave the window open, as it was so hot. Would stay here again if in the area.

The ”Horse and Hound” gave us fantastic and warm welcome; the team were awaiting our arrival. We were shown to our well presented tasteful and practical room, complete with en-suite facilities complemented by new decor with a firm and comfy bed offering us a great night’s sleep. Our stay was rounded off with a hearty breakfast for our onward journey. Many thanks to Dawn and David and their team for making our stay so pleasant in these difficult times.

Stayed in Room 7 for two nights bed and breakfast. Arrived early, before opening, but no issues re this. Found all staff to be bright and cheery and helpful. Property was very clean. We were shown to our room which had plenty of space and warm (just right for us). For our second day we requested milk and tea for our room which was left in a bag outside our room - we did not need the room to be serviced.
Dined in both nights - food was plenty and tasty. We would stay here again.

+1
Absolutely fantastic place.
They were really accommodating, especially given the short notice of our booking!
Great atmosphere and friendly staff/owners, they were able to cater for a gluten free diet and the food still tasted great.
The only shame is that we couldn’t stay longer, there’s plenty to explore nearby and I hope to revisit soon.
The rooms were comfy and clean, especially considering they cater for dogs (you couldn’t tell with the condition of the room!).
If you’re on the fence about this place, 100% book.

Stayed for one evening with ny Dad during a visit to Hawick.
Plenty parking on site for free.
Lovely bar abd breakfast.
Room was clean and beds were comfortable.
Lovely owners.
If booked via booking.com just call beforehand to confirm the booking as sometimes the agency doesn't pass on the booking. Wasnt an issue for us but just incase.

I haven’t written a review for many years but, the Horse and Hounds is such a great place anyone travelling through the Boarders should know what a great place this is. The staff are friendly without being ‘in your face’. The room we had was modern, clean and functional and the beds comfortable, if a little noisy. The restaurant offered a limited menu but our dinner was beautifully cooked and the wine list, whilst short, was very well priced. Breakfast was great and I was able to indulge in one of my favourite dishes which was poached eggs on haggis. My wife’s breakfast omelet was light and fluffy and as good if not better than most of those had by us in rated hotels across the world. In short if you need to stay overnight in the Boarders this is the place. I look forward to our next journey North.

These owners are long gone. The new owners are fabulous. Turned the place right round.
Those owners are long gone. The new owners are great. Turned the pub round. Is excellent now.
Hi.we no longer own the horse and hound, the new owners are Kathryn and Martin. There isn't a family room as such but if you ask for rooms 1 and 2 they are together but apart from the other rooms. I hope this is of help to you, enjoy your stay
