Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic location in centre of town offering lots of private parking. The setting offers very comfortable walking distance to all the plentiful attractions, shops, pubs and cafes. As night fell and the town settled, we had a quiet and comfortable night’s sleep. There’s an old county hotel feel to the reception and corridors but our executive room was tastefully and sympathetically modernised with a high quality feel to the bedroom and shower room. Shower was easily the most powerful and satisfying instant shower we’ve seen in a hotel room. An interesting showcase of framed prints throughout the corridors demonstrated the commitment to a quality refurbishment. Our dinner was served in the busy bar area, offering space and privacy to each table. It was a pleasure to see staff working supportively as a team to offer a high standard of service. A young waiter, looking to be on his first shift, was being trained with careful encouragement and discreet direction. He will go far with his enthusiasm and eagerness to offer friendly and efficient service. Most of our meal was of an extremely high quality although one of the mains was slightly dry and overcooked. However one dish was not something that would put us off a return visit, particularly as the service and ambience were first class. Breakfast was first class. Again, committed attention to excellent service. Cooked breakfast was outstanding quality. With various lounges and bar/restaurant spots throughout the building, this busy county hotel had a buzzing vibe to it. Money and effort has been given to bringing it up to date with a subtle and sympathetic renovation. The attention to good service and high quality makes it stand out amongst the competition.

We stayed for one night booked through Macs Adventures before walking the St Cuthbert's Way. Melrose is well worth a visit and this hotel is well situated in the Market Square.
The room was nicely decorated with everything we needed and breakfast was very good with a wide choice on the menu.
We were also grateful that the hotel allowed us to park our car for the week while we completed our trek.

A two night break here. There’s a lovely wee garden at the back and, although remote from the bar, the staff are attentive.

Our room was small but well equipped and there was lashings of hot water.

The bar is very busy and the lounge is small, so not hugely relaxing. Good range of beers and wines.

I needed to do a remote meeting after we checked out, and they were very accommodating.

It’s well located in the town and Melrose is in a great place to use as a centre to your the borders.

We visited for one night as were going to a concert at the nearby Floors Castle. Location of the hotel was spot on, parking good, staff all friendly and helpful. The room size was fine, tea, coffee and water provided, as well as toiletries in the bathroom. The room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was served in the restaurant, and there was an extensive menu, including an amazing full Scottish, and smoked haddock, or kippers.
Would definitely recommend if travelling to Melrose or places nearby.

This was a very last minute weekend booking accompanied by our dog, who was seriously spoiled by the staff, he even got a welcome pack of luscious dog food and biscuits.

The attention to detail was second to none and every single member of staff were kind and helpful.

We ate in the hotel, our breakfast was a real treat, kipper............ and the meals were delicious and reasonably priced

will definitely be back

We had booked a private room for 13 adults, 2 kids + 2 infants for a funeral party. On invitation we had requested 3 tables set for 5 + 2 highchairs. 3 issues: the tables weren't set as requested; there were no kids' menus set out; a member of staff asked if we were celebrating something. (The breaded haddock, potato wedges and leek + potato soup were all very disappointing.)

Response from Nicholas Henderson, Owner at Burt's Hotel
Responded 3 Jul 2021
Thank you for your review. Couple of points to address here. We had set 3 Tables as requested with 2 High Chairs. On arrival, we asked if the set-up was ok for you and you said that was all fine. Secondly, you were offered the Kids Menu by Olivia, who is my Daughter. She gave the menu to the kids. You were asked on more than one occasion whether everything was ok for you and responded yes. Thirdly, It's not unreasonable for a member of staff to engage with the guests and ask what the special occasion was given that most of the guests were wearing some yellow garments and accessories. We apologise if this may have caused offence.

Enjoyed an evening meal here while staying elsewhere locally. They serve nicely prepared dishes at a reasonable price point and deliver with a smile. We would eat here again if in this area and looking for a decent supper.

I would just like to thank everyone at the hotel for making our stay a total delight.we stayed bed and breakfast and also enjoyed an evening meal on our visit. The evening meal was of exceptional standard which we enjoyed with a bottle of wine in the very pleasant outdoor garden area in the sunshine. The full breakfast for myself and my wifes kipper breakfast was also beautiful and very filling to set us up for the day.hygiene was of a high standard at these troubled times and our room was immaculate. Overall if you want to stay in Melrose or this area you cannot go wrong.thank you once again to everyone

This is an impressive looking well established family run hotel in the very centre of pretty Melrose. There's a decent size car park to the side and rear and a bus stop next door with a frequent service to most of the key surrounding towns. The welcome once through the door is warm and helpful. I'd a quiet rear facing single room with a small double bed, pleasantly furnished with a modern cosy bathroom. Personally I'd have preferred a chair with a back rather than a stool to sit on. The evening meal service is popular with locals and visitors staying in other accommodation, so book ahead. The dishes come out from the kitchen very quickly and are generously proportioned. All in all a very comforting overnight stay.

Can’t beat the location, when you’re right next to the museum, bus stop, and most of the main shops are across the street and around you; albeit Melrose is a very small and quaint village anyway. Had a very comfortable and enjoyable overnight stay, in the single bed room. This room is perfectly suitable, and plenty spacious for one person; I was very pleased with the accommodations. The bed was superbly comfortable, with crisp clean linens, a traditionally classic room decor, and everything, including the bathroom, was impeccably clean. There’s reliable WiFi connection, plenty tv channels to watch, and most importantly, the room remained generously warm during my stay. Lunch was quite delectable and I highly recommend the chicken goujons plate with fries; portion large enough for two, or one hungry person. I really enjoyed my stay and plan another stay in the near future.
