What a magical & blissful experience. Our Roulotte (Karlotta) was beautifuly decorated, spotlessly clean & kitted out with anything you could possibly need. Situated in a very pretty meadow overlooking a wildlife packed pond & nothing to hear apart from the buzzing of bees & the sheep on the hill. In the evening we BBQ'd at the firpit area that ended up as the social hotspot where other guests joined us for drinks & food & chats into the early hours. Thanks so much to Avril & Alan who made us feel so welcome & organised beautiful flowers, champagne, bunting & fairy lights which added to the experience. Really can't wait to go back ❤

Thank you for your wonderful review. So glad you enjoyed the magic of the meadow and the ambience of Karlotta, which has a great view of the wildlife pond. Its always lovely when guests bbq around the fire pit next to the lochan under the dark skies. You are very welcome, happy you enjoyed the champagne on ice, flowers and fairy lights .... just adds to the magic! Hope to see you soon, you were lovely guests!

Being in the middle of a major house move we decide we need a break to de-stress. We could not have picked a more perfect place. The roulottes are beautifully finished and so reminiscent of holidays in the South of France as is the setting. It is so peaceful and quiet the only sound being the numerous birds. The decoration is really tastefully done and adds to the calming effect of the whole site . The wild meadow where the roulottes are sited is so full of interest things like tv and internet fade into insignificance. When we were the there nearly all the accommodation was occupied but apart from the odd encounter we were hardly aware of anyone else on site. The owners were so welcoming but at same time leaving us our own space . At the end of our stay we were genuinely reluctant to leave but at same time mentally refreshed - we very much hope to return!

A lovely review, thank you and captures what we hope guests will experience whilst they stay at Roulotte Retreat. We are so glad you enjoyed taking time out from your house move to relax in the meadow and listen to the birdsong and 'just be' by Karlotta. Yes, who needs tv when there is so much on the nature channel all around. Good luck with the move and hope to see you again in the meadow. Thank you for your kind compliments.

What is there not to love about this place!

We booked 3 nights in the beautiful Maharani Roulette with Ecco sauna. The roulette is absolutely stunning, decorated in the most ornate carvings, with bright coloured fabrics, unique trinkets and gorgeous furnishings.

It had everything we could possibly need in fact it actually had more than we anticipated it would have. Avril and Alan have thought of everything.

It’s not often you go to a glamping site and there’s olive oil for cooking, salt and pepper every utensil you could ever need and a full bucket (and it’s massive) of Ecco fuel already there. Even the sauna was set up for us arriving.

It was just heaven especially being able to sit in the panoramic sauna at dusk, looking out over the meadow watching the wildlife and listening to the birds. And there’s a gorgeous cherry blossom that sits slightly over it.

It’s unbelievably well thought out. Even though Maharani sits at the front of the site it still feels completely private. The site was full when we were they but we honestly felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

There’s the option to buy fresh eggs on site from the friendly free range chickens that roam the grounds by the studio and I would highly recommend these they were amazing.

We just absolutely loved this place. it’s the perfect little get away if you want to feel at one with nature and just total unwind from the hussle and bustle of daily life.

And I can’t forget to mention Avril and Alan they truly were the most lovely hosts. They will help you with anything you need but also leave you be to enjoy your stay.

This is a truly magical little place and we can’t wait to return.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful and heartfelt review, we really appreciate it. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in Maharani and her amazing eco sauna where you can watch wildlife in the warmth! Yes, we like to make sure that you have everything for your stay so that you are comfortable and can just relax in the wildflower meadow, listening to the birds and watching sunset. Maharani has an amazing view of sunset and we have been planting more shrubs and trees around so that there will be even more privacy in future. Thank you for your kind compliments and we shall look forward to seeing you back here again at Roulotte Retreat.

Just home from a wee mini break at the Roulotte Retreat staying in Devanna.

What a wonderful peaceful location and a fabulous find.

Everything was clean, tidy and so much more than I expected. Being self catering I prepared myself with everything I thought I would need for cleaning etc and i didn’t need to worry everything was provided which was fabulous!

Staying in Devanna I paid the extra for exclusive use of the Eco Hot Tub which once up to the temperature I wanted was wonderful to relax in especially in between the rain down pours. Sunsets were sadly marred by the weather but what a wonderful view.

I wanted a couple of days away to relax and generally do nothing and I achieved this.

Thank you to Avril who recommended walks locally and for also being on hand if I needed anything.

I would highly recommend a visit and to sightsee in the local area, this was my first time staying in a Roulotte and I would not hesitate staying in one in the future I am already planning when I can visit again in 2023!

All in all a most pleasant couple of days.

Thank you

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. You really did embrace the peace and quiet of the meadow and your stay in Devanna taking time to 'just be'. The weather wasn't the kindest yet you still enjoyed being out in the hot tub, relaxing and appreciating the view. We hope to see you again sometime and we shall try to have a word with the weather to get the sun to take its hat off so you can see those incredible sunsets. Look forward to next time.

I saw Roulotte Retreat in an episode of Four in a Bed and my first comment to my husband was I really want to go there. It looked absolutely fantastic and just the sort of place my husband and I like to stay, off the beaten track, quirky, quiet and relaxing so we can recharge our batteries. My husband surprised me on my 50th birthday in August by booking us a 2 night stay for last weekend (18-19/09) in the Maharani caravan which has the sauna. I absolutely loved it, the caravan was amazing with everything you would need and it was spotlessly clean. Even though there was a step to help you get into bed (very comfy bed) we both laughed at me trying to climb in each night. This caravan has the added bonus of a private sauna which we took advantage of and thoroughly enjoyed.
Would recommend this to anyone looking for something different and quiet with no tv's where you can either go for a walk in the hills or relax in the sauna or hot tub. Hope to come back again sometime soon

We are so glad you enjoyed your 50th birthday present in Maharani with her very own wood burning eco sauna. I'm sure you must have noticed a difference in the lush maturity of the meadow since we first appeared on Four in a Bed 7 years ago, with all the trees, shrubbery and wildflowers, not to mention the addition of eco hot tubs and eco sauna. You really did enter into the spirit of Roulotte Retreat enjoying the recharge and rejuvenation that time spent in a wildflower meadow with good sleep, peace and tranquillity amongst nature can bring. We look forward to seeing you again sometime. Thank you for your lovely review.

This was our second visit to Roulotte Retreat, with the first being a blissful couples retreat and this time being our first family holiday. We spoke to Avril in advance to ensure that children were permitted, with Avril providing sound advice on the best roulotte for us and our 2 month old. We then had a week of pure relaxation and family time. Gitana (the roulotte we stayed in) was lovely and cosy, with additional help from Avril, who provided extra cushions on the bed to support feeding time. The copper bath was a lovely addition and was a great escape for the adults (while the wee one slept) and for our newborn who loved the huge bath! We were also lucky enough to have fantastic weather during our stay, leaving us very sad to leave. We can't wait to return and continue our roulotte bagging! Thank-you Avril and Alan.

It was delightful to welcome you back again and such a treat to meet the new member of your family too, such a cutie! As you know on the meadow side of Roulotte Retreat it is adults only, however it has worked well with babies (before they are crawling) and for older children who have an interest in nature.   Gitana is the best roulotte if you have a baby as it is completely secluded on the other side of the wildlife pond and it has the added bonus of a copper bath tub.  Mum and Dad can enjoy a 'date night' outside within earshot, just a few feet away from baby sleeping soundly inside Gitana in their Moses Basket.  It's also great fun to enjoy bath time with baby who can watch the birds and the trees and listen to the sounds of nature - a real sensory experience! I thought the extra cushions would be useful, I remember from 30 years ago you can never have enough cushions around feeding time! We have had many returning guests stay in Rosa Bella with their older child or children as there are two double beds in this roulotte or in Horseshoe Cottage where we welcome families. Thank you for enquiring in advance as it is not always possible to offer a stay with babies and children, we appreciated this. We shall look forward to seeing you again and seeing how your beautiful baby has grown.  Thank you for the photographs you shared with us, they capture your stay as a family wonderfully. Big hugs to Baby and a huge thank you to you for taking the time to write a review for us, it is very much appreciated.

Each roulotte is different. We stayed in Karlotta, quaint, traditional but with modern comforts. Ideal for 2 people, with a comfortable bed, kitchen which you can make meals in, and an eco fuel burning stove( which we didnt use).Set in the meadow of wild flowers, with lots of birds and insects.Peaceful- with lots of walking paths nearby, and hills to climb. Melrose on the door step for shopping and restaurants.
Avril and Allan are friendly, have all the local knowledge, and can be seen on the site during the day
We were recommended to visit, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks to Avril and Allan!!!

Thank you for your lovely review of your stay in Karlotta. Sounds like you enjoyed your stay in the roulotte as well as walking the countryside nearby and Melrose is always a dream to browse the shops, have lunch or dine out in the evening . We hope you come back and perhaps try a different roulotte next time. Hey if you come when its cold you could try out the wood burning stove! Thanks again for your kind words.

This very special place has become our 'go to' when whenever we need to de - stress and relax and just need space to breathe and get away from it all.
There is an instant sense of peace when you enter the meadow.
Each unique roulotte is placed within the meadow ,so you have a sense of privacy from the other Roulottes.
As ever the Roulottes are kept spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything you could need.
There are plenty of walks and places to visit nearby. What better way to end the day than sitting outside in the copper bath eco hot tub watching the bats and listening to the evening birdsong.
Thanks again to Avril and Alan for always being such welcoming hosts.

Thank you for this lovely review. It is always good to see you both when you visit the meadow to your fave roulotte, enjoying the birds, bats and butterflies as we know you are keen wildlife enthusiasts. Its great that you explore and take us up on all the jaunts we suggest around the local Borders countryside, one of the most memorable being the 'ice cream' trip to Lucy's!! We shall find more unusual places for you next time, I'm going to start a list for you .....

My husband and I recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with family staying in horse shoe cottage. What a perfectly peaceful setting with a beautiful bow top Romany caravan in the cottage garden. There was also an impressive eco sauna that was just so relaxing with a wonderful view over the meadow, perfect for watching the sun setting. Avril and Alan the owners were extremely helpful and showed us how to light the stove in our cottage and sauna and also gave us lots of local information on places to visit and suggestions of where to eat. Upon recommendation, we enjoyed delicious takeaway pizza from Hunters Stables Bistro plus a busy day out visiting Harestanes Park, for my grandson to play, Woodside Garden centre for lunch, The Donkey Sanctuary and a look around Melrose. Although the rest of our time was spent just relaxing and enjoying each other’s company in the beautiful setting of Roulotte Retreat. The perfect weekend stay! A wonderful time was had by all of us and we will definitely be back.

We spent the weekend at the Roulotte Retreat in the Scottish Borders, just outside the beautiful town of Melrose. If you need a break from the hustle and bustle of life, this is the most glorious place to do it. We stayed in Devanna with its accompanying Eco Hot Tub, which set in a secluded location and is a fantastic place to unwind. It was the perfect place to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary.
