Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely visit to Cringletie, for family weekend. Lots of really lovely homely touches, and a warm welcome. We were particularly grateful for the care that was taken for my daughter who is vegan. Even the shortbread in the room was vegan. Dinner was a fabulous experience for us all and the service was superb. This was our 2nd stay and we hope to be back again.

Sometimes you visit a place for the first time and think how can I find the words to demonstrate how good it was, I will have a go. The scenery the hotel sits in is outstanding. The moment I arrived with my best friend we were treated as special guests, escorted to our room which was lovely the bedding in particular is very high quality. The room also offers tea and coffee and drinks. We then went down to dinner to experience their 9 course tasting menu with wines. We were shown into a sitting room and given champagne. The Chef and the Wine Waiter then came in and explained the menu to us. We were given a table in the dining room at the window and each course and wine was graciously explained to us. I have never tasted food like it nor experienced service like it before, we were literally treated like royalty. The owner of the hotel came in and introduced himself which a lovely touch and exceptional. After reeling about the quality and presentation of the food and wine we retired to seriously comfy beds. In the morning at breakfast we again savoured the delights of their amazing food and service. We will definitely be back I just can't say enough about them.

Beautiful setting for this wonderful hotel. From the minute we walked through the door, we felt relaxed. All staff were very friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff made every effort to make us comfortable. Also, the owner spoke to us and other guests, which was a nice touch. Food was delicious. We hope to return.

We have stayed here many times and have always had a fantastic experiance. The staff cannot do enough to make your stay a truely stress free visit. The hotel is set in delightful Border countryside with ample grounds surrounding it. The food is of a good standard with a varied and daily changing menu. The Tasty Sunday deal is excellent value. I would add that having stayed at a number of dog friendly hotels Cringletie House is far and away the most accomadating. If you fancy a break in the wonderful Scottish Borders especially if you want your dog to accompany you I would highly recommend you try Cringletie House.

We have an annual stay with our friends for dinner, bed and breakfast which includes the 7 course tasting dinner experience with wines selected for every course. This year it was even better than before with the menu and wines chosen for us being truly superb. As in the past the hotel staff were extremely helpful without fuss. The bedroom was spotless, the bed was very comfy and it was well equipped with everything we could need. The dining room is spacious and beautifully decorated to suit the grandeur of the building. The estate is well maintained with huge areas of spring flowers at this time of the year.

We stay here when visiting Murrayfield for the Rugby. Lovely country hotel, only short distance from Edinburgh. Beautiful grounds, which were amass of snow drops when we visited. Rooms are large and well appointed. Dining is excellent. Bed breakfast and dinner promotions are good value for money. Would highly recommend.

Excellent three night stay. We booked the winter special package which came with a free bottle of house wine and tickets to see the great scottish tapestry in Galashiels. Breakfast and dinner were included and the food was amazing, a different menu every night which kept it really interesting. A special mention has to go to all of the staff who made an effort to learn our names and always made us feel welcome. The handwritten note in the room was a lovely touch and we enjoyed the comfy bed and amazing bath (we stayed in the Peebles suite). We will definitely be returning as soon as we have the time off. The only thing we could think of to improve our stay would have been an option to rent bikes as the bike path to Peebles was quite a distance to walk (although that being said, it was beautiful and worth the hours walk -pictures included). Thanks for making our stay so memorable.

We had a lovely stay of one night in March, before the daffodils were really out and after the snowdrops had bloomed in the estate. We could still see them on the beautiful woodland nature walk around the estate, which I really recommend doing as you get a beautiful view of the house and we learned alot about the history of the Estate. We also wandered around the Walled Garden, which must be stunning in the Spring and Summer. I would love to go back when the daffs are out! The building itself is beautiful and decorated in traditional Scottish style, complete with a bespoke tartan carpet in some hallways, inspired by the family tartans. I loved all the historic information about the house and the local artwork, which is for sale. The service was excellent and the food well deserving of the AA rosettes. The trout starter was exquisite, the beef really excellent and the chocolate desert with creme fraiche ice cream a real treat. The two-course traditional Scottish breakfast was very good too, with options to suit all tastes and appetites. Staff were very helpful and the receptionist friendly and efficient. The owner introduced himself as well at dinner, which I thought was a nice touch, something you only get in a small hotel rather than a chain. We had a room on the top floor, in the attic basically, with some sloping ceilings. The room was fairly small but plenty big enough for both of us. The double bed was two singles made up together, which is great. The mattress was quite soft for me, but fine. The room had a great welcome tray with not just tea and coffee but also shortbread and whisky. Best welcome tray ever! As a hotelier myself, I am always looking out for these little details that really make a stay special. The bathroom was very large with a tub and a shower that worked fine with plenty of hot water, though it was a little difficult to get the right temperature at first. Good toiletries and a dressing gown and slippers provided. Like I say, we will look out for more offers and come back again for dinner, bed and breakfast.
