Can not recommend this beautiful place highly enough! We were there as a family with an 18-month-old baby, and the staff were extremely helpful with special food requests and cleaning all of his baby items for us. Our friends also filled up the other rooms as we were there for a local wedding, and the staff were SO friendly and accommodating, even when we were probably quite a handful and they were very busy! The beds were extremely comfy, rooms were clean with lush towels and really high quality bedding. Food was also tasty. It's also a gorgeous location with lovely walks and homes all around, and a great place to sit and chat with the locals too.

Hi Tania It's always our pleasure having such little ones to cater for. We pride ourselves on being a place for families to come, relax and enjoy the Scottish Borders without the need to worry about little ones being disruptive to other guests - we've all been that age once after all!! We hope you all come again soon! Team Cross Keys Inn Ettirckbridge.

We spent four nights at the Cross Keys Inn accompanied by our two small dogs and couldn't have been more comfortable. We had a spacious, bright and airy room containing two king size beds made up with the finest bedding. Both the authentic pub and the ensuite accommodation were clean and the staff both friendly and helpful. Perhaps surprisingly for a pub the room was very quiet and we had access to our room from outside without going through the bar. The small menu was varied and delicious. Our dogs joined us for meals which we took in the bar area. Located within a charming small village with its bridge over the river, church, and primary school we encountered horses, chickens, llamas and emus in the adjacent small holdings!

Cross Keys B&B provided us with a delightful weekend escape. Nestled in a charming, lovely country location, the B&B offers a traditional and welcoming atmosphere, complemented by exceptionally clean and comfortable bedrooms. The high standard of bedding and well-regulated warmth through the night ensured a restful stay. The B&B is perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding area, offering access to wonderful local walks and a short driving distance to stunning locations such as the Grey Mare's Tail and St. Mary's Loch. Furthermore, its proximity to the Borders and Scotland's farther reaches makes it an ideal base for further exploration. The staff and food perfectly matched the charm of this lovely Scottish retreat, leaving us with a desire to return.

Our room was great plus we had a personal menu provided due to our allergies

Our stay was comfortable and relaxing along with well maintained rooms and a very well stocked hot drink selection thanks to Josh.

Our breakfast was delicious with a large selection of juice and pastries.

We dined at the restaurant and the food was better then we extracted.

Our mussels was cooked to perfection and my husband’s salmon salad was absolutely amazing as Danielle explained her husband the chef cures all Salomon in house & makes all his own dressings.

Our only point would be the lack of extra towels along with our service during Sunday lunch.

We give this establishment a very high 9 out of 10 and will definitely return

The new owners have done an amazing job to refresh and refurbish this traditional country pub ahead of reopening. Our food was served timeously, was well presented and extremely tasty. Totally recommend the Cross Keys Inn, Ettrickbridge.

This lovely village pub was my local when I was a teen back in the 80s and where I had my first job. It was the hub of village life back then. It's seen not so great days since, but has finally returned to its rightful place at the centre of the community for both the locals and visitors. As a visitor, the pub was a great location for our trip down memory lane on foot to my old house at Brockhill and by car travelling up and down the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys. We relaxed in the very tastefully decorated and comfortable Brockhill room (the shower was a very welcome addition 😉) and enjoyed excellent breakfasts and evening meals. It was great to catch up with Rory and hear all about how the the pub has been brought back to life and then a very lovely surprise to find a couple of glasses of fizz provided 'on the house' in celebration of our 35th wedding anniversary. We had a great couple of nights and were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. I am sure we will return.

As someone who has visited the Cross Keys Inn regularly over the past 20 years and worked there, this was my worst experience yet!

From the moment we walked in the door and stood at the bar (whilst three staff ignored us) we felt like a burden to all front of house staff working that day. Eventually someone grudgingly turned our way and asked how they could help.

We used the online booking system, but the lady said that she could not see our booking and would therefore have to check with the chef that everything was still 'on'. For a short while we both genuinely thought we were going to get turned away- even though nobody else was in eating!

This was the point where we should have just walked out, because our experience just got worse. We were ushered through to the dining room in the back (reminder that nobody else was in) and it felt like we were being hidden away so that the front of house staff did not have to interact with us.

Unfortunately, we were right! Besides asking for our initial food order, nobody came through to ask how we were doing, nobody asked if we wanted any extra drinks, nobody asked if we wanted to have dessert after our plates were finished... In fact, it took nearly 10 minutes after us finishing our mains for me to have to walk through to the bar (where staff were sitting doing nothing) and ask if we could have dessert. Embarrassing!

Our dessert came over, but the waitress still left the plates from our mains- at this point we were not even surprised.

We have never felt so unwanted in a bar/restaurant and the customer service was appalling. It is a real shame, because the food was actually OK...
But a place like the Cross Keys Inn is remembered more for it's personality, warm welcome and atmosphere- something which is distinctly lacking with the current front of house staff!

Absolutely no rush to return.

Hi Bruce We're sorry to hear you had a disappointing experience. As a new business, we have been working hard to recruit in a challenging time for the hospitality industry as a whole. We have a strategy of giving youngsters in the village and wider valley an opportunity to learn new skills and take up what is often their first ever job. We are working hard to train up these individuals to the standard we all want to deliver. However, this doesn't excuse certain aspects of your feedback, for which I can only apologise. On the plus side, we're glad the food wasn't as disappointing as the service, and we hope that while you are in no rush to return, you will give us another chance in the future. Best wishes, Team Cross Keys Inn Ettrickbridge

We stayed here overnight on our way home after visiting the Scottish Highlands and what a lovely little find the Staff are exceptionally friendly the Inn itself is 17th century coaching in which has been lovingly restored our room was Glebe and is a dog friendly room tastfully decorated and immaculate. The food is delicious and very reasonable breakfast was yummy and plenty choice. The whole place has a very welcome feel to it and is a credit to its owners special thanks to bar maid whom I can't remember the name of but she is married to shepherd and has 2 girls and 8 dogs she was so lovely and friendly and could not do enough for us. Very much a people and fur ball person love talking to her she is a valuable member of the team she really looked after us thank you for a wonderful visit Highly recommend a visit to this quirky Inn.

Few nights stay at this beautiful village inn and we didn’t want to go home.

Our room was absolutely beautiful and very well done with big comfy bed and plenty of room.

Room come with breakfast every morning and we had the Head Chef Manager both morning who was very funny and kept us entertained for our breakfast.

Both nights we dined as not much in the area but definitely well worth it as plenty to chose from and the food was very fresh.

The Head Chef manager (Ash) was very knowledgeable with his food and even made us something of menu as I’m a bit of a fussy eater so I had a beautiful Gnocchi dish of fresh tomatoes & goats cheese one then the next day i had very fresh baked fish with potatoes & vegetables all cooked beautifully.

My husband had the steak on our first night first night and said it was the best he had & second night he had the Mussels for starters and the hake for mains.

All in all our stay was lovely the was amazing and will definitely be recommending to our friends

We were passing through Ettrickbridge, when we happened upon the delightful Cross Keys Inn. Set in a very peaceful location, this hostelry is full of historic charm with a characterful exterior and cozy interior. The staff are very friendly and attentive; the choice of six real ales from local Scottish breweries impressive. We relaxed in the calm ambience, in front of an open fire, one of us enjoying a delicious pint of Tenpest stout, and the other a warming latte coffee. The whole experience was very enjoyable, and we look forward to returning.
