Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hartleap is an absolute gem of a B&B. The house is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and both the front and back gardens are beautiful! You can tell that so much work went into curating such a lovely home and grounds. We stayed for 2 nights in July and had breakfast and evening meals. The cost of the evening meals is such a good deal considering how much you’d pay for a 3 course meal anywhere these days. We got to try foods that we wouldn’t normally have and everything was delicious, we definitely want to recreated the haddock and spinach tart that we had one night! So many of the ingredients are grown in the garden which is so nice to experience. The B&B has a gorgeous cat named Percy who we thoroughly enjoyed greeting every day. Lindsay and Kevin give you plenty of privacy whilst still being knowledgable and thoughtful hosts, Lindsay was happy to provide advice for trips out in the area and Kevin showed us how to use the record player in TV in our sitting room. We had tea and scones on arrival and Lindsay made sure we had whatever we needed during the day. Genuinely one of the nicest places we have ever stayed with such lovely people and lovely decor! Thank you for a lovely stay :)

One of the quietest places I have stayed, there are no other habitations in view. The garden is a sanctuary Lindsay and Kevin have carved out of the field. The food is delicious, freshly prepared and most of it comes from their very productive garden.

Our second visit to Hartleap lived up to all our expectations splendidly. The location, the house and garden are spectacular. The hosts are such interesting, welcoming and friendly people with a remarkable record collection and extraordinary culinary skills respectively! It is such a great to find such a gem of a place and we can't wait to return.

Visit number 6 to this wonderful place, we arrived 5 hours late due to mechanical difficulties and the most awful weather conditions causing diversions off the motorway twice, when the door opened we were greeted by the most friendly and sympathetic faces of Lyndsay and Kevin who made us sit and relax before serving us with a wonderful meal as if this was all normal. We can’t thank you enough for your kindness and understanding. Gill n Paul

Hi Gill and Paul, - it's such a stress when your journey goes a bit sideways so we completely understood how you must be feeling. I'm so glad that you were able to enjoy your (somewhat shortened) stay and relax. I hope the rest of your holiday was enjoyable and stress free! Hope to see you again next year. Take care.

It’s hard to add anything to all the other great reviews. We had three extremely comfortable (and silent) nights with fantastic food, wonderful scenery and brilliant hosts. One of the best. Who needs the highlands when all this is so much closer (if you live in England!).

Expectations were high before arrival and we were not disappointed. As seasoned travellers this is up there with the best. Everything was just perfect. Lindsay and Kevin are ideal hosts. Breakfast, evening meal, room facilities, garden and location can't be faulted. The area is beautiful, after many years of the Highlands this is new to us and a return visit is certainly going to happen. Hartleap is ideal as a centre for exploring and plenty of that to do. Exploring the garden is a must, although didn't manage to do half of it. But an amazing place. Will do the rest of it next time we visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Kevin and Lindsay made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and we chose we eat in and both meals were 'restaurant quality'. Beautiful garden to mooch around and hope very much to return. Thank you again.

A superb base for walking in the borders. We were wonderfully looked after by Lindsay and Kevin with the most delicious food (vegetarian and fish) with fresh vegetables and salad from their stunning garden. It feels like a very comfortable, relaxing hotel but you are the only guests. We would definitely love to return. Oh, and on a nearby grouse moor we saw a hen harrier up close!
