Detailed Reviews
My wife and I had spent an afternoon walking in Mabie Forest, the sun had come out, it was quite hot and we made it up to the viewpoint.
By the time we got back to the carpark we were desperate for a drink.
We popped into the hotel; it was open to non residents, our drinks were very reasonably priced, we were quickly served, the toilets were clean and we enjoyed our drinks in the garden. Very welcoming.

Just returned from a 2 night break at Mabie House Hotel and had a fantastic stay. We have stayed here approximately 4 times before and haven’t been disappointed any time.
We arrived and were welcomed by Sam who showed us to our rooms. We settled in and then enjoyed a pre-meal drink before ordering our food.
All meals are very tasty and reasonably priced, there isn’t a specific kids menu however they were very accommodating in doing half size portions.
The weather wasn’t great this weekend but we made the most of it visiting the local ice rink and swimming pool and then came back to relax at the hotel in front of the fire. Meal on 2nd night was lovely too, so much choice it’s hard to decide what to have.
Breakfasts here are also great and lots to choose from including cereals, fresh fruit, porridge or cooked breakfast to your requests.
We can’t fault this hotel. It is very traditional and welcoming and we love staying here. Just need to look for a free weekend later in the year to be able to go back.
Thanks to all the staff for making us so welcome, our daughters were very fond of Sam and she always had time to talk to them which was lovely.

We visited on a wet September day and this was a total delight. With fresh sunflowers on the table it was the perfect location for lunch
We both chose a meal from the specials. Waitress was very attentive and the food was fabulous.
We had a top of tea before dessert.
Most delightful couple of hours eating lovely food in a great atmosphere.
As a vegetarian it was great to have such a lovely meal
After the lunch the rain had stopped so has a pleasant walk around the grounds, can see why people would choose this as a wedding venue its ideal.
We've visited this area on numerous occasions and have never eaten here before, can't understand why. Next time we will be pre ordering the afternoon tea and will definitely consider staying the night especially as the serve my partners favourite lager on draft.

We have just celebrated our daughters wedding at an amazing wedding venue on Saturday 14th August. From arriving on Friday till we checked out yesterday morning Malcolm and his team were amazing. The whole team could not do enough for all of the wedding party and guests The new wedding pavilion, scenery and immaculate grounds makes this a premier location to celebrate a wedding g and must be top of the list for anybody looking in the future. Nothing was a problem to any member of staff and it’s a credit to all involved. The hotel and rooms are the perfect base too for the wedding party and the food was excellent. Thank you all again

the cottage we were staying at recommended the food at the hotel.
We were not disappointed, the food was excellent, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the restaurant staff were attentive but not intrusive.
The restaurant was busy but there was no delay in receiving our meals.
We would recommend booking in advance although they do accept 'walk ins'.
Next time we are in the area we will definitely be back.

+1
Well what can I say about this beautiful place, from driving up the winding tree lined path I knew this was a great find. The house, grounds, forest, food , staff are faultless and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending. All food is reasonably priced and really good quality, our best meal in Dumfries, our breakfast which was included in the package was also beautiful, with the haggis being my favourite. The staff cannot do enough for you and make you feel at home as soon as you arrive, as did Basil the resident parrot 🦜, sad to leave 💕 thank you Mabie 🏴 you were great.

We got married at the Mabie House Hotel in 2015 and we loved it so much we have been back about 5 times since, most recently in August 2020.
The staff are so welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere is very relaxing, and the beds are comfy.
The location is great for mountain biking, and after a hard day out on the bike, the food in the restaurant is perfect: tasty with generous portions.
I hope we will have many more visits in the future.

This is our third visit this year needless to say it’s got everything anyone could ask for . From the genuinely warm and friendly staff who can’t do enough for you to the location which is second to none. Set in Mabie forest with marked walks and bike rides for all abilities and a perfect location to explore the surrounding areas .
The restaurant was the main reason for booking. As dusk approaches the candles on the dining room tables tempt and invite you . The food doesn’t disappoint but come with an appetite BIG portions without compromising quality.
The owners are truly down to earth and hard workers . Hit with the issues around COVID they manage to be so upbeat and positive whilst keeping to the guidelines .
We have already booked for next New Years event and will be returning in February. The hotel must be one of the best wedding venues we’ve come across with a separate purpose built pavilion with beautiful grounds perfect for those magical wedding snaps .
In all it gets a well deserved 5 stars from Nick and Sue

We married here in 2018 and it was fantastic, the location is pure bliss. The staff did an amazing job helping us celebrate the day we desired. Plus it was so worth every penny, a bargain in fact in comparison to many locations. We wouldn't have changed a single thing with regards to the venue we selected. Though the new marquee would have been a lovely addition!
The hotel is cosy and traditional, just our taste. The rooms are all different, which makes it quirky. We stayed in the best suite, and it was like staying in a flat. We hired the entire hotel for the wedding and all our guests enjoyed their stay, from bedtime, to breakfast time. It is a memory we will cherish, and we are so pleased we chose Mabie. Basil the parrot is an adorable 'consierge,'😉and is very much loved. My son and the other children enjoyed the fact he could come out of his habitat to see them when he liked as the door was often left open for him to roam.
We often return back for food, as it is a lovely atmosphere and the food is delicious. All the staff are lovely and remember you on return. Our last visit was Christmas time and it looks even more magical with the winter themed flowers, open fire and Christmas decorations.
We plan to return again soon for food, as we live relatively local. But we highly recommend for a stay also!!

So, friends coming up for the Easter weekend.....where will we take them for dinner? Easy, the Mabie House Hotel. We pulled up on a lovely sunny spring evening, before we even got to the venue our guests were gushing about the location, it is truly stunning nestled at the side of the forest.
This place is timeless and classic, we entered the hotel and immediately felt the lovely ambience that makes this place so special, when we reached the restaurant the candle lit tables against the scenery outside was very special. We were welcomed by the young staff and seated with a welcoming smile.
I opted for one of my favourites, the Galloway beef, it was cooked to perfection and the veg was both extremely fresh and delicious. With muted background music we could have a good catch up and enjoy our meal.
We had a really lovely evening here, the food was fantastic, the venue amazing and the prices extremely reasonable, it is a very special place.........Many thanks to Owen and Elsie, very welcoming, friendly and credit to this venue.
Mabie house you are amazing...........Thank you.

Yes they are although I do not know if they are allowed in all rooms. For info the hotel is in Mabie Forest which is great for walking dogs.
