The place is full of character and history situated in central Dumfies. Plenty of restaurants in the neighbourhood although the Scottish breakfast is first rate with your genial host Andrew, a pleasure. This is a great bed and breakfast rather than a hotel.

Spacious rooms tastefully furnished with excellent ensuite bathrooms. Very comfortable sitting rooms for guests with views over the river Nith, lovely quiet walled garden. Excellent copious breakfasts. Very friendly and hospitable host who is a mine...

A beautifully restored Georgian house right in the heart of Dumfries, with views of the River Nith. This is a house (and owner) with real character - comfortable, cosy rooms and a cracking breakfast, and a only a couple of minutes' walk from the town centre. There's a walled garden as well.

I, and my husband visiting from Canada, were guests at Irish Gait. If you are the kind of person who enjoys old castles and grand homes you will enjoy staying at Irish Gait. The house is one of the most ancient and notable old houses in Dumfries. As you would expect, family pieces are included in the house's fine collection...

“The area and the house are very quiet. The house has thick stone walls. Wonderful beds and beautiful bedding. Bedrooms all on one floor.”
