Recently stayed for the new year break. This is a fantastic hotel and the staff are excellent. When we arrived we had warm mulled wine (best I have ever had) and mince pie. Then every meal was 5 courses or greater and once you ordered the staff knew who ordered what and didn’t

Dear AH88877, It's always gratifying to read that the little details like that are noticed and appreciated, so thank you too. We traditionally welcome our guests to their 3 day package with mulled wine and a cosy fire to help you get settled in. As you know, there are then 3 days of food, drinks, walks, puzzles and dancing - hopefully a great way to beckon in the new year. Your review is really lovely to read and we thank you all for your custom and comments. best regards, Joanna Scott.

Dear happyvistor, A big thank you to you for your review. We were really please with all four of the Party Nights this year - they were well attended and certainly went with a bAnG….(in a good way!). It's always great to see everyone enjoying themselves - and when the service and the food are slick too, we're really happy. Thank you so much - and watch out for letters and booking forms in the new year with dates for the Partys in 2019! Merry Christmas to you. Best regards, Joanna Scott.

We booked to stay four nights at the Selkirk Hotel and were taken aback with how good it is. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and gave us great ideas about places to visit in the area. The food was superb, ignore the staple burger and fish and chips on the menu

Dear Alun J, Thank you for posting this wonderful view and for your kind words - it's always a great moral boost for all of the staff when our guests let us know that they had a super time: I have passed your words to them all. Our head chef Ryan has been with us for a year now and his menus are always imaginative and varied. It's just really great to read that his dishes have been enjoyed to this extent. Our housekeepers work the breakfast shift and are generous and particular with their produce - I'm so pleased that they set you up well for the day. A HUGE thank you once again and I do hope you will visit the area and the Selkirk Arms in the future. Best Regards Joanna Scott.

Dear Elsie W, Goodness, quite a diatribe. Still, if you don’t tell us, we don’t know. I can see from your 549 reviews on Tripadvisor that you take your breaks seriously, as is fair and proper. My colleagues tell me that on check-out you did mention a cobweb but said “it wasn’t an issue”. However, cobwebs are unacceptable in a hotel room and I have investigated this today. Regards meals, the receptionist also mentioned that you thought the evening meals looked too large and were looking for beans on toast or similar. This is a dish that is never going to feature on any Specials menu here but it’s always worth asking if we have an item – if we can, we will ! We all tune into different noises in hotels, some more annoying than others and ~ this specific issue is a first for us (noise is always a subjective issue anyway) but if it annoyed you, it annoyed you ~ that is a pity and we’re sorry. Should you return I would endeavour to minimise all fans and noises ~ in fact, safe to say, I’ll switch the handdryer off or put an Out Of Order sign on it . . . . I would always encourage guests to make any issue with their room known. We could deal with the noise issue, move you to a room more acceptable or help you find more suitable accommodation in lovely Kirkcudbright. We would always rather try and resolve it and help you. We do take heart that despite the 2 Star score your heading is Fantastic and that is the thing that will draw readers in and what they will take from it. You also praise the breakfast and the “peeps” so thank you. Interestingly, Visit Scotland have raised our rating today to 4 –Star after their inspection on 3rd October, making us one of only 4 hotels in Dumfries and Galloway with 4 Stars from VS. They rate 6 key areas including hospitality, cleanliness, service, bedrooms, bathrooms and food so I hope this goes some way to reassure you of our best endeavours and striving to improve. Best Regards, Joanna Scott.

Dear Steven F, Sincere thanks for your review. It was lovely to look after you all and accommodate Isla - I don't think she would have appreciated being asked to wait an hour - it's a long time when you're hungry. We're really pleased that you all had a cracking weekend and hope that we can welcome you back again. best regards Joanna Scott
