We're an elderly couple and were on the way from the Midlands to Dundee. From the outside a pretty ordinary small hotel, but the room was a real surprise. A huge room with a 'bedroom area' with TV, a 'lounge area' with TV, tea/coffee making area with loads of biscuits and mints, and a huge sofa. Through a door to...

Called in here on our way home from Edinburgh. Good, no fuss menu and excellent value. I had the gammon which had to be the most tender I've ever eaten, it practically melted in the mouth. My boyfriend had steak pie made with good quality meat and a lovely gravy. Can't fault it, proper food, proper prices, great quality ingredients....

OK, so we booked a double room... wasn't expecting a three seater settee (leather - very nice ha ha), fridge and TWO TVs!! Great room, big bathroom with lovely corner shower and lovely big bed. Bed could have been a little more confortable but the room was lovely. We ate in the bar downstairs (it is really just a bar...

We had booked a double room for 2 nights mid week and got an apartment. There was a very large lounge with kitchenette. Furnished with 2 leather reclining sofas, flat screen tv, tea & coffee was in caddies (no of that rashoned sachet stuff) and full biscuit jar. Ajoining was a good size double bedroom with flat screen tv. Ajoining...

After a 10 day trip including Edinburgh and the Outer Hebrides this was probably the best appointed hotel room and certainly the lowest price of the whole trip. Everythinbg you could possibly want and spotlessly clean. The room was above the bar but even so the noise was not really obtrusive. We had a perfectly decent pub dinner with beautifully...

My sister had a lovely 2 night break here at the end of last week. Room was lovely, plenty of everything including biscuits!! We both ate in the bar on both nights and food was wonderful, roast lamb and beef cooked to perfection, melted in the mouth! Staff very friendly and helpful, and made her stay very enjoyable. Thanks to...

The Balmoral Hotel's food definitely fits the title of good, hot, well served British pub grub. Their fish supper (a 6oz. piece of fish either breaded or battered served with peas, bread and butter) is absolutely superb value at £6.50 and very delicious. Their roast lamb is also excellent - probably the most tender you will eat anywhere. The surroundings...

The Balmoral hotel was our last stop at the end of a 3 week tour of Scotland - and as far as the room was concerned - they saved the best for last! We also stayed in Room 1 as per some other reviewers. It was fantastic value - spacious and comfortable with its own little room with mini-fridge and...

We had a very enjoyable day in Moffat and we went for lunch at the Balmoral. It was fine, the portions were ample but the food was basic, the salad was very basic. However the chips were lovely and the service prompt and efficient. It was a busy little spot but the decor was tierd and could do with a...
