We have been going to Forbes of Kingennie restaurant for years and always enjoyed the food & service. The last few times we have been we have noticed the service was not as it should be, we gave it the benefit of the doubt and went for an evening meal only to find nothing had changed. Food arrived before our drinks, during our meal (which was not very hot) we were never asked if everything was ok or if more drinks were required, after our main course was finished we never got the option of a sweet. It looked like the service staff were more interested in the Wedding Buffet in the main restaurant than what was going on in the bar. Really disappointed as this place used to be so good, a great venue being let down by poor management 😩

We’ve been staying at Forbes of Kingennie for years and the Lodges are really starting to show their age. We stayed in Glen Lee in December. Carpets are dirty and worm, kitchen generally really needs an upgrade, serious issue with the hob, you couldn’t see the symbols for the rings and it’s an old style hob so you didn’t know which ring you were turning on and what temp it was at. I badly burned my fingers. Oven doesn’t work great either. We stayed in Glen Logie in February and the main bathroom is really in need of replacement. Grout is coming up from the tiles on the floor, smell of damp, generally old looking. The boiler makes really loud banging noises, even through the night. Sofa in living room tired and smelled of dog, no blinds or curtains the upstairs living area. The kitchen here also needs upgrading, small and old fridge freezer, better cooker though, but not great! The kitchen was also not very well kitted out, not enough plates and cutlery, chipped cheap mugs, etc. The hot tub with this lodge is quite exposed, great if you want to sit in the tub and look over the lakes and main buildings, not so great if you don’t want the fishers and diners in the restaurant seeing you in your swimmer! The lodge’s generally look tired externally, woodwork needs painted, etc. The kids play park would benefit from some investment, there’s not that much to do on the resort with kids, but a bit more added to the play park would help. On the positive side I would stress how helpful and pleasant I’ve always found the staff. When we pointed out the lack of crockery and cutlery it was quickly resolved. The food and service in the restaurant is also very good and you get 10% off as a lodge guest. The location is really good, there’s an Innoflate and Costa 5 mins away, and Broughty Ferry and Dundee are both easily accessible. We took advantage of the 50% off from Jan - Feb but I’m not sure I’d be happy paying full price with the current standard of the lodges.

We stayed on Glen Glova due to work getting done on our house… We would stay at the resort again but not this one… Don’t understand the blocked out windows at the front door etc unless you look out the small side windows you have zero view which is a shame because the surrounding areas are lovely.. The central heating banged every now and then and I mean a big bang even during the night.. a lot of noise from the boiler/radiators during the night also.. A pain getting to hot tub out front door all the way round the lodge to the back of the lodge.. Shower stuff was quite empty. We didn’t bother to much as we were not on holiday but if we were on holiday we would have been disappointed but every other cabin looked great from outside and the surrounding areas and staff were great, cleanliness was great to.. We think this is an honest and fair review

Enjoyed a weekend stay - location is lovely, close to Dundee. A few cleanliness issues such as stair carpet didn't look like it had been hoovered, like others have commented that floors might not have been moped and soap/shampoo had not been filled up from previous guests.and dirty oven gloves. Hot tub was great though you do have to go out the front door and round the back of lodge to get to it as its in front of patio doors so you can't get access out that way.

This was our 3rd stay in the bards neuk and it’s still as good as ever. It is starting to show its age in places but has everything you need and more for a short break. Only negatives were lack of shampoo and body wash products in the bathrooms and no towels in the main bedroom. The dining room chairs could be doing with getting tightened up too and that will preserve the unique style of African furniture in the lodge. We noticed most lodges on the site now have hot tubs and we hope by the next time we stay in the Bard’s Neuk it will have one too 🤞

I have recently returned from a 2 night stay at Corrie Doon shepherds hut. I had booked the Stargazer hut but was advised we needed to stay in the other hut due to heating issues. The hut was lovely, clean, gorgeous inside and out. For being small, there was plenty room inside, with separate bedroom with the roll top bath which was fab. The hot tub was a great size, could have done with a canopy over it as it poured down our entire stat, suppose that is a risk you take though. I didnt bring any amenities as I was lead to believe the hut had everything we needed for our 2 night stay. There was hardly any washing liquid (we ran out), hand soap (also ran out), bodywash or toilet roll (there was only half a roll). There was no sponge either to do any dishes. There was no corkscrew, I never brought one as the website stated there was a wine cooler so assumed there would also be a cork screw. There was also no wood to allow for one fire as stated on the website, we would have liked to have used the log burner whilst sitting, especially since it was heavy rain and the hot tub unfortunately didn't heat up till around 11pm on our first night, we did know it wouldn't be ready at check in but didn't expect it to be that late I had booked the stargazer as I liked the look of the sofa seating area in case the weather was bad, as it was when we stayed. The bench seats in the Corrie Doon hut were so uncomfortable and not enjoyable or relaxing to sit on with a glass of wine. I just wanted to highlight some of the issues we encountered. It would definitely not put me off booking a shepherds hut again. I have stayed at Forbes of Kingennie on other occasions and never had any problems.

Booked Glen Isla - few comments - no freezer, decking had just been painted day before (we had dogs with us) and on last night the kitchen flooded due to dish washer water pressure. Patio doors i double bedroom were open on arrival. Stay was fine and we had a lovely time.

A family tradition for my wife and I to take our family, children and grandchildren out for a meal on Boxing Day. Fourteen now, all adults and includes grandchildren’s parters. Decided to try Forbes of Kingennie this year, and not disappointed. The menu for Boxing Day contained a reduced selection from their main menu and before arriving pre-orders had to be placed. However this was not a problem and there was sufficient choice and everyone was content with their meal. Two small criticisms however; those who had the battered haddock had tartare sauce which they enjoyed, but I believe horseradish sauce was served with the breaded fish and was not liked by anyone. Suggest a choice of either, and maybe be a bit more generous with the amount of sauce. The other slight criticism was the salad on the starters and for those who chose macaroni was dry and would have benefited from some sort of dressing, even simply olive oil. In conclusion the whole experience was excellent in part to the very friendly and efficient staff and the quick service of the meal and numerous rounds of drinks we had. Will definitely return next year.
