I recently booked (well) an itson deal for 2 nights dbb , called the hotel to book , was told on the phone it was booked asked if I had to give ref number or PIN code , nope your all booked in , turned up , no booking , spoke to manager , nothing he could do about it , was told you have to book through itson and they had rooms available, only to find itson closes at 4 on a Friday till Monday , asked if we booked it for the following day and leave earlier (still the 2 days ) but was refused and had to pay for a room for the night , was upgrade thanks to the lovely receptionist , toilet in room kept blocking spoke to receptionist and she said it was just a blockage that would push through eventually, pool was cloudy and plasters floating about , sat in steam room for 20 mins no stream , breakfast at its vey best average had to wait for multiply items ( buffet style)and wen they did come out they were gone in seconds because everybody was waiting on it , then 10 mins after replenishing it took it away , we visited this hotel a last year and they have cut back a lot , no slippers or robs for the sauna , £1 charge for towels , also the pool/sauna seems to be open to everybody , watched women get out her car in the car park and take about 8 wains in , telling them to go in in 2s as the fella wouldn’t say anything if it’s only 2 of yous , the room was nice but as you can imagine with the toilet not working there was a smell in the bathroom , disappointed as this was really good last year but its cut backs are letting it down

I booked here for a two night stay with my partner for my birthday. I originally booked on booking.com (room only) however when I looked on their website I could get a much better room, and breakfast & dinner included for an extra £40. When I looked at the menu it was definitely worth doing this as some of the meals are quite expensive. We arrived at 2pm, check in wasn’t supposed to be until 3pm but they let us into our room at 2pm. The room was better than I expected, great size, bathroom was a great size, had a bath & a separate shower. Fridge & safe in the room. A sofa & chair. The bed was massive, the mattress was comfortable, we didn’t like the pillows but that’s a personal preference. The room was really clean. Night 1 dinner - I got a fish and chips, the fish was really greasy. My partner had a Cajun burger which he really enjoyed. Morning 1 breakfast - we arrived around 9:30am and there wasn’t much hot food available. But we still managed to enjoy our breakfast. Plenty of fruit, yoghurts & pastries. Night 2 dinner - dinner was in the bar, the restaurant was closed for some reason. We both had a steak which was cooked exactly how we asked. My steak was a bit fatty, but I still enjoyed it. We had to pay an extra £8 per steak on top of our DBB. Would I have paid £24 for a steak if I didn’t have DBB? Probably not. I wouldn’t have said it was worth it. Morning 2 breakfast - we arrived around 8:30am. Loads of hot food available, and again plenty fruit, yogurts & pastries. Drinks in the bar were good, the cocktails are £8 each, which I’d say is average. We went to the pool on the Sunday, the pool got halved from 11:30 - after 3pm for swimming lessons. Bit disappointing as the pool isn’t that big anyway. The sauna and steam room was good. Changing rooms as expected, nothing fancy but that didn’t bother me. Overall a good stay, almost all staff were really nice and helpful. I say almost as the lady that served us in the bar on the first night was really ignorant. Anne who was serving breakfast was so helpful & made sure she went the extra mile for all the guests.

We stayed for one evening in the Glen Esk Suite. The suite was beautiful, clean, spacious and well maintained. Staff were polite and helpful. The TV was not tuned. Pool area: changing rooms in dire need of cleaning, maintenance and refreshing. In the sauna there are metal screws not fully screwed into the wood. They burn you if you sit or lie on them. I have a burn from one of them on my back. Please fix this. Steam room good. Gym - clean and tidy, could do with new equipment, please move the stair master away from the sloping roof - I banged my head and I’m only 5’3! Food. Dinner service was good. The Maze restaurant was quite cold. Starter selection was small. Main course (steak) was really lovely, Breakfast service was just absolutely chaotic and selection of items not replenished. Staff: they were all really friendly and helpful. Thanks to them.

Attended a wedding this weekend, they ran out of alcohol multiple times, very expensive with hardly any selection because they literally ran out, for a wedding you wouldn’t expect to have all these things in stock and there should have been more staff. Breakfast was terrible because they ran out of a lot of items and moaned because the waiter said they only had one chef who couldn’t cook eggs and bacon at the same time so we were sat there waiting. The Coffee tasted burnt. We were forced to order McDonald’s one night because the food was way too expensive. The room where the party eas after was way too small to handle the amount of people that was there! The buffet was awful aswel! They said 830 but didn’t even get any sandwiches til 930 with most of it tuna which smelled really bad and I don’t like tuna so the selection was horrible! The chicken was supposed to be satay but it was just plain chicken. I would never come back here again!!!!

We stay here for 19th October for 6 nights in one of the Disable rooms, we were very impressed with all the facilities in the room that had everything for me and it was like home from home. The restaurant and its staff was excellent, we went only for breakfast and they were always happy and helpful every morning. We only ate once in the evening as it was very expensive. The pool was warm but we only went when it was quiet as being disabled i found it a bit too much with too many children in the pool, but that was down to me, i had my son with me who is 15 and he was happy to wait to later. The sauna and steam room was all clean and changing rooms was clean too. Because we was in a disabled room this had the double bed plus one pull out bed, after the first night we noticed that one of the slats was broken, so we reported this to reception. Now because of the heavy rain etc we was told that the maintenance guy couldn't get in but they would sort it as soon as he comes in. These eds are meant for an adult. My son is 15yrs old. This does need to be looked at as the bed never got repaired and we did mention this again to reception. Please see pictures below. Having a slated bed for an adult isnt really good and i did ask this at time of booking and was told it will be OK. Well it wasn't. The other issue that the hotel has is the Disabled parking, they have signs up, but if you are disabled, i would say really consider going to this hotel, as they have disabled bays with signs BUT the hotel dont and wont police it. There was 2 cars parked in the bays when I couldn't get parked, actually one of them was a white van, Because you have to give your registration on arrival i asked reception to ask them if they have a disable badge and was told they are not allowed to ask them about their disability or even for a badge. !! So there is no point having disabled parking. Just be careful if you are disabled going to this hotel.

Not quite 5 out of 5 but close at 4.7 out of 5. Value for money, clean, great staff, etc. Leisure centre was nice, pool warm, steam room good but sauna was out of action the week (4 nights) we were there and changing rooms a little grubby but ok. Gym was state of the art and during the day use of all facilities was good, but a little busier in the evening, Dinner menu very limited so we only ate in one evening. Food was well prepared and usual hotel prices as were the drinks.overall a great stay.

Really disappointed with this hotel. Firstly I had booked a room close to reception as they said they didn't have a lift and my husband is very poor at walking. The room we got was the complete opposite ( 2 corridor lengths away ) which was no no good to us. I asked for a change but the lady at reception said there were no other free rooms available. I then asked if we could use the fire exit door to get out easier to the car park but she said NO. Then I discovered other guests were using it to take their dogs in and out - but that was OK. Anyhow a lovely man was on the reception the next morning and changed our room for us to 115 which was great for us - he was so apologetic and so helpful. The first night we went to the bar to be told they were nearly out of whiskey they only had 2 types available and those were bottles were nearly empty - A scottish Hotel with no Whiskey !!! We then went for dinner in the restaurant - meal would have been ok if we had heat - the room was so cold which in turn left the food cold Even the staff said they were sorry it was so cold - the same at breakfast every morning room and food cold. We only used the restaurant the 1st night and went out the other 3 nights which was not what we had planned for a 4 night break away. Other than the lady on reception on arrival all the other staff were lovely and done their best for us. Great Staff - but poor hotel and receptionist. We are a couple in our late 70's - we didnt need this for a Scottish Break from N Ireland.
