Sometimes, the most impulsive decisions turn out to be the best. I was out with my two friends for the evening and after dinner decided we wanted to end the night with a few drinks. We found a couple of the local bars were too busy, but on crossing the road we were delighted to see that The Wine House was open for business again (and has been, apparently, since the end of last year). We were greeted by Marco, the bar manager, who was very courteous and seated us quickly. While we were debating what to drink he advised on options, including the Friday Prosecco deal which was great value. The evening turned out to be a memorable one for a good number of reasons. We met another group of friends visiting the bar who we started to chat to, and it turns out that they had extensive knowledge of the whisky industry. The evening turned into an impromptu spirits tasting session, with great chat and banter. I'd like to note that Marco was at all times, very helpful and accomodating despite our often odd choices in drinks (not wine!) The evening got busier and the place still has a great vibe. The 1821 bar has an extensive range of Italian wines, beautiful and stylish surrounds, and attentive service. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed, but lively place to meet friends (old and new) then visit The Wine House. Many thanks, Jill.

Cannot recommend enough! I went here for my birthday and was not disappointed. The wine is reasonably priced, the place recently and beautifully refurbished, and the music appropriate for the setting. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I want to give a particular 'thank you' to Didi and Peaches for their hospitality. 5 stars and two thumbs up! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍

Great location with luxury room. Service from the staff was 2nd to none, very attentive without been overpowering. A very enjoyable stay and will definitely be back when next in Edinburgh. Relaxed ambiance in the bar with stylish decor and seating.

This place is fantastic, seriously if I could give it six stars I would. If you love good wine, in a lovely setting, served by knowledgeable staff, this is the place to be. From the moment we walked in we were treated like we mattered, the customer service was the best we have experienced for years. We spoke to Maggie and Mike who have a great passion for their business. There is a great selection of wine, which we found to be reasonably priced and what we had was delicious. This wine bar is situated near the playhouse and is within easy walking distance of the city centre. Definitely try this place if you like good wine and good service.

I booked a party for April 2020, however due to no ones fault this did not happen. I did however pay £150 for a drinks package. Since the establishment re-opened I have been trying to get this money back and finally made a break through last week (or so I thought). I provided everything that they asked for in terms of proof of payment and I received an email Friday stating the refund had been processed and I would get the money that day. It did not arrive Friday and I still have not received it. Despite calling and emailing I was told today by the manager that he knows as much as I do. Refusal to provide head offices / finance departments number so I can chase directly. Absolutely ridiculous. Just refund me the money I am due!

Dear Catherine, We apologise for any confusion given from our team on Friday. I can see your details were sent over to our Finance team on Friday afternoon. Our payments can sometimes take 5 working days to reach accounts, and I'm pleased to hear you were able to confirm with Mike at The Wine House that the monies had returned to your account. We thank you for your understanding, and do hope to welcome you back in the near future Kind regards Viva Italia

We had two nights away in Edinburgh at The Wine House Hotel 1821. The room in the hotel was lovely with a large, very comfortable bed along with fridge/kettle/tea/coffee facilities. Lots of clothes storage space (a few to many cushions but hey ho!) The staff (Maggie and Mike) were very friendly, welcoming and knowledgable. We had one night in the ground floor contemporary bar after we had been out for a bite to eat and the atmosphere was lively and great fun. We would definitely go back.

Looked inviting from the outside. Inside was totally lacking in atmosphere. For a fairly expensive drinks bar the music was very loud and aimed at 20-30 age group I would suggest, but that was not the age of the few clientele in there. It needs to decide who it wants to attract on a Saturday night and set the ambiance for them. We asked for a Sardinian wine by its name and the bar person thought it was a red wine! In a bar specialising in wine you would expect staff to know what they were serving! Plenty of others places to go, give this one a miss

Stayed here for 1 night as was seeing the lion king over at the playhouse, Room was a good size and had everything that was needed. I had a great sleep and I was going to give this place 4/5 as there was a crack on the mirror next to bed, crack on toilet seat and a rusty toilet brush that is easy to bin and replace. However I went down today for breakfast to be greeted by a unchatty waiter who couldn’t answer any questions as that wasn’t his roll yet was the one person in the building??? Manager came back and I asked about parking discount to get it down from 22 to 15 pounds to which he said you need to get it stamped in omni centre. This wasn’t the case and had to pay full amount, don’t advertise 15 pound parking if no one knows how to achieve this! You can have the best hotel room in the world but if staff aren’t competent the place doesn’t work
