Stayed here twice first time was a let down however they invited us back for my birthday last year and it was amazing! Didn't get a chance to write a review for last year but we stayed in a suite which was newly done out and was amazing! We didn't return this year due to it being a little out...

Firstly - there's absolutely nothing wrong with the staff at this hotel ... from the moment I checked in they were courteous, prompt, and helpful ... and the complimentary G&T during check in was a really nice surprise. My room was adequate but with a few issues (loose mosaic tiles in the bathroom, a faulty ceiling light that left the...

Room spacious, nice bathroom and decor. Nice big bed. Pillows were awful ! No spare pillows in the room either. Check in and out efficient and friendly. Bar in the hotel is nice although a little pricey. The location of this hotel is it's best feature. Very handy for the Christmas markets and the castle. Would stay here again, although...

Lovely hotel in a central location. The hotel was beautifully decorated with high quality fittings. The afternoon tea we had was very nice and quite unusual. Sadly the experience was spoilt by the service. There was a wedding which seemed to absorb all the staff! We struggled to get into the hotel because they were taking photographs on the steps...

Everyone was warm, friendly, welcoming, amiable. As a guest, they were quick to enquire about and cater to my wants in order to make my stay as...

I loved my stay at this hotel and my room had a view of the ocean in the distance. I chose this hotel because I wanted to stay in the Old City. Very comfortable and elegant. Minutes walk to Edinburgh Castle and main train station.

Chose this hotel for my birthday weekend away and I made a good choice. Fab hotel, large room well furnished with a big bathroom, nicely decorated modern and clean. Breakfast was tasty, all the staff were friendly and helpful. Comfortable bar with really nice unusual menus and yet again beautiful decor and lighting. The hubby didn't find the bed particularly...

Located in the heart of Edinburgh on the corner of George IV Bridge and the historic Royal Mile, just minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle. It was a quiet area at Night. Lively at daytime. We...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
