2023 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Awarded AA Hotel of the Year Scotland, Fingal opened in January 2019 in the historic Port of Leith as a unique addition to Edinburgh’s hotel scene following a £5 million development. This former Northern Lighthouse Board ship, begins an exciting new chapter offering beautiful cabins, dining and entertaining space. Developed by The Royal Yacht Britannia, Fingal’s 22 luxury cabins are each named after Stevenson lighthouses, inspired by her rich maritime heritage. Sleek corridors lined with lighthouse images lead to the choice of cabins, from a luxury cabin with access to the deck, a duplex cabin with comfortable living space or the stunning Skerryvore Suite with extensive outdoor space to relax and entertain. Carefully considered design offers the highest specifications of craftmanship and finish, with nautical touches and polished woods. Sumptuous Scottish leathers and the finest linens are in colour palates inspired by Fingal’s journey from land and sea.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had the most wonderful, perfect stay. Fingal is beautiful, comfortable and undoubtedly luxurious. The food is absolutely delicious. But it is the staff/ crew who bring it all together in the most friendly, professional way. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their warmth shines through. We were made to feel really special, thank you to all!

We booked the Supper and Stay package for my wife's birthday and cant praise this experience highly enough. We were looked after superbly from start to finish. The accommodation is very special and the meal was amongst the best we have had. Every member of staff went to great lengths to ensure we received the best possible service and Fingal is thoroughly deserving of its Best Hotel award. Even if you dont decide to stay for the night the dinner experience on its own is something not to be missed.

Just stayed the one night, but perfect stay. Service is exceptional, which is complemented well with great rooms and features. The only regret was that we didn’t eat there in the evening, which we would have liked to have done as we felt bad leaving the ship to go out. So next time we will spend more time there. One thing worth thinking about is the fact that it is so easy to get into the centre of Edinburgh from the ship. It was just 15 minutes in a taxi so don’t think there is barrier between you and the centre if you book here.

From the minute we approached the vessel we knew we were going to have a very special stay experience. The Staff are exceptional in their welcome and it certainly doesn't end there! Our bags were whisked away to our cabin almost without us noticing as we checked in. We were then shown to our cabin, we chose a luxury cabin, which is beautifully appointed. Special touches include your own small box of luxury chocolates, a hand written, personalised welcome card and lovely toiletries to name but a few. The cleanliness and comfort is second to none, a theme which continues throughout the entire vessel. We had cocktails in the Lighthouse Bar/Restaurant on the first evening which were most enjoyable and a simply delicious dinner the following evening, again service was excellent. Breakfast on both days was a wonderful experience and nothing is too much trouble for the staff and how refreshing to not have to leave your breakfast table for any part of your meal. By the time my husband and I were due to check out after our 2 night stay we had both almost run out of superlatives to adequately convey both our thanks to everyone involved in the Fingal experience but also to describe the level of comfort and service to our friends and family on our return home. Please, please try the Fingal for yourselves and be as well looked after and enjoy it as much as we did. We are already planning to return for another stay.

Dear Rae B, Thank you for taking the time to review your glowing review of your stay onboard Fingal. We are delighted to read you enjoyed your stay with us. Fingal was lovingly restored over a 5-year period using only the finest materials sourced locally and from abroad. On board you will lots of nods to Fingal's nautical past as a Lighthouse Tender ship from the roped bannisters on our spiral staircase to the elevator resembling a Lighthouse Lens. Our cabins are all named after Stevenson family lighthouses, and feature a map contour of where the lighthouse is located, brass taps and a replica of the original Radio Operators chair. We hope to welcome you back to Fingal soon. Kind regards, Callum Rees Guest Relations Duty Manager

Absolutely amazing from start to finish. Attentive and lovely friendly staff who were very approachable. Afternoon tea was the best we had ever had and so delicious. Room was superb and clean with everything you would need. We would highly recommend it. Getting a complimentary ticket for Britannia was so good. That was also amazing. Do not hesitate booking this as it was such a special time for us.

Well, what can I say.. blown away with my stay at The Fingal - unique is an understatement, not just as a place to stay but the friendly attention of guests. You’re made to feel very special and at home in a luxurious boutique hotel with a difference, you’re floating and tethered.. the weather was blowing a Scottish hooly and freezing, but had the best of times, and caught the rugby in Murrayfield too. The tram outside hotel takes you straight to Murrayfield, it’s a nice walking along Leith Walk to the city.. magical stay - I’m heading back for the next game! 😊
