Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay at Hotel Indigo was a highlight of our extended European holiday. Post Covid, I have been to Europe on 3 occasions. None compare to our visit to Edinburgh and this is due largely to the staff at Hotel Indigo. At the time of our visit, weather red alerts were issued for Scotland. Unprecedented winds and rains were threatening Edinburgh and the areas to the northeast. Train service was cancelled….the last leg of our Scottish Highland dream had turned into a nightmare for some. Had it not been for the comfort, location, and exemplary staff at Hotel Indigo we would have left Scotland feeling defeated. Instead, we look forward to returning to Hotel Indigo for a taste of how a true hospitality experience should be from beginning to end, all the while adapting to unforeseen hiccups, which can be stressful to travelers in a foreign lane. Thank you Hotel Indigo for the Renaissance you restored in me regarding the Hospitality Industry. I am humbled by the care you give-and the pride you take.

The hotel has a brilliant location, just a couple mins walk to the bus station. The staff were very accommodating when we had to change our travel plans and extend our stay by one night at short notice. The room we originally booked was very clean and had an excellent view but was on the smaller side. The room we were given for our final night was the standard double which felt larger and brighter. Overall we had a very pleasant stay and would return.

On this survey I need and option to select a “10” for staff excellence! To say that the staff and management here went above and beyond to help and accommodate our needs is an understatement. Many thanks and much gratitude to Gordon, who absolutely went above his job description and required services to help us in a dire time of need. His reviews and recommendations for food and restaurants on the area were also spectacular, and sent us to some of the best cuisine in Edinburgh. Many thanks to the 28 York Place Hotel for everything! Perfect location and walkable to Old Town, and all the major attractions in Edinburgh.

Lovely hotel, just at the back of the St James’s Quarter, the hotel was very secure as key card required for access. Staff were very helpful and although we arrived early our room was ready so we got into the room. The room was very clean and the shower was very good, there was a powerful fan in the cupboard and plenty tea, coffee and milk; the only thing I was surprised about was that there was no pillow or mattress protectors on the beds.

My brother and I stayed here on our one day stopover in Edinburgh. This hotel was great! The room was surprisingly spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The location of this place is perfect for someone who wants to see the sights and be centrally located. We took a bus to get to Edinburgh from Glasgow and the hotel was an extremely short walk from the bus station.

Not surprising - empty 8 of us popped in at 930 for a post event drink. Nice hotel, been there before, and they used to be welcoming. Not only was there no one to serve us, when they came, they said it was residents only’ And when asked why? They said ‘they have so few staff’. Too few to pour 8 drinks. No wonder.

Immaculate clean and fresh room bedding and towels. Full size hand wash hand cream shower gel shampoo and conditioner provided. Iron hair dryer tower fan and tea and coffee making facilities. Cannot fault the room for high standards of cleanliness and comfort. Location is right opposite the bus station and 5 minutes from the train station with trams and buses outside. Only downside would be there us no lift which may be a problem for those with mobility issues. I would definitely stay here again.

Great room overlooking a busy road but we could barely hear the noise of traffic. The room was very spacious and elegantly decorated. Nice bathroom with high quality toiletries. We did see a bar but didn’t venture in because we were dropping bags and heading to the theatre. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Princes Street, St James Quarter and the Festival theatre. We also didn’t put an order in for breakfast. When we came downstairs in the morning it looked as if everyone else had done the same thing as there was no breakfast laid out. We are highly likely to stay again but I would prefer to see what is served for breakfast before deciding whether to order or not.

On arriving at Edinburgh airport, the hotel is very easy to reach from the tram station. The welcome I received was good, the assistant explained that I was the first person she had checked in. The room was on the second floor in the Castle room, it was very large with a sofa and windows facing out onto the street. The room was clean and tidy, unfortunately there was no mini fridge or phone in the room, which I would say is essential. The bathroom was a good size with a double head shower and good warm water for a bath or shower, unfortunately there was no bath shower or bath mat which is also essential. Breakfast was non existent, as it was served far to late and only consisted of mini pastry's toast jam and juice. I would of preferred a cooked breakfast served much earlier in the morning, then there 9:30am time slot.
