We were seated upstairs in the restaurant which was clean warm and well presented for our lunch. The room was in keeping with that of a quaint old pub. The service was attentive and well timed with appropriate breaks in between courses.we had the festive menu(a party of 11) priced at £20.95..this was excellent value for money for 3courses.I can recommend...

Came to the Sheep Heid Inn for a light lunch. Very friendly staff and good food. Enjoyed the cosy atmosphere. I had booked online and we arrived a bit late but this was not a problem and we were given a very friendly welcome and were well looked after.

Booked online before leaving the North West of England the night before. After moving our Son into his accommodation we received a warm, friendly welcome from the staff at this Inn. The ambiance was fabulous. Both the food and service was top class, couldn't fault the place at all. We dined upstairs having seated in the bar for a short...

Was brought here by friends dropping their son off at university. Our third visit. Beautiful food, so tasty and succulent. Quiet upstairs dining room. Would recommend very highly. Great range of menu options and extremely reasonably priced.

A wonderful meal to celebrate our anniversary - portions just right and a great selection of dishes. Staff were fab - and the kitchen even created a wee dessert just for us to mark our special day. Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere - a very well-designed and thoughtfully laid-out space that really complements its location.

Really enjoyed our first visit to The Sheep Heid for our sons's Birthday (he has been before and recommended). The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Haven't been for many years but went for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. We were met by the ever smiling Carolyn and made to feel welcome. Very relaxed atmosphere and although very busy the staff had plenty of time to advise when necessary. Food was delicious and the portions just right. Can highly recommend and will be back soon.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
