CoDE Pod Hostels – THE CoURT is a former courthouse and jail transformed into CoDE Pod Hostels. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lockers have plenty of space. The hostel is very clean. I stayed in an eight bed female dorm and I really enjoyed my stay. I would come back again if staying in Edinburgh. The pods provide privacy and mean you can turn your light on and not disturb others. The only thing is it's a bit tricky to get up to the top bunk as the hand rails are in awkward places.

what a nice experience, first time hostel , located in the old city center. All what we tried there was good, we hadn't taken breakfast so no opinion about that. We will come back for sure next time we visit Edinburgh

Stayed in a female only dorm, it was quiet so good for sleep, but way way too quiet for me - you could hear every movement or shuffle. The pods are fine, options to fully or part light, but the bottom bunks keep their lockers under the bed - it was incredibly awkward to access for anything other than shoes really. Beds are OK, my pod had weird spray stain on the roof and walls but no functional issues. Bathroom facilities OK - not many spaces per room but there are multiple bathrooms per floor. They play radio in there which is nice rather than just walking around in total silence all the time. We did have someone bring a…’guest’ in the morning which was really uncomfortable and weird. I booked the female only dorm to avoid that kind of thing, so it was also frustrating. I’d suggest the hostel actively says no adult activities in shared dorms - particularly if people are booking female only etc.

Response from Meg Pritchard, General Manager at Code Pod Hostels - The Court
Responded 5 days ago
Hi Claire, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We genuinely appreciate your insights as they help us continuously improve our services. Firstly, we sincerely apologize for the discomfort you experienced during your stay due to overnight guests being brought into your designated female-only room. We want to assure you that ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests is our utmost priority. We do want to highlight that we do have prominent signage within the rooms indicating that each pod is designated for one person only, and our check-in process includes guests signing terms and conditions that explicitly state non-guests are not allowed in the rooms. Additionally, we operate a 24-hour reception, and each pod is equipped with instructions on how to contact our night team for immediate assistance with any concerns, including unauthorized guests. However, we regret that we were not notified about this incident during your stay, as we would have promptly addressed the situation to ensure your comfort and peace of mind. We kindly remind our guests to reach out to us whenever they encounter any issues, as we are always here to assist. Regarding your feedback on our check-in time and locker arrangements, we appreciate your suggestions. While our standard check-in time aligns with industry standards, we understand that individual preferences may vary, and we will certainly take your comments into consideration as we evaluate our policies to better accommodate our guests' needs. Similarly, we acknowledge your feedback regarding the locker accessibility, particularly for bottom bunks. Your input is invaluable, and we will explore options to enhance the convenience of our storage solutions to better accommodate heavier items. Once again, thank you for your valuable feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with an improved experience that reflects our commitment to exceptional hospitality. Warm regards, Meg

This hostel is beautiful, clean, modern and super functional. The bathrooms were always clean, the bedroom (private with shared bathroom) was spacious and had more than enough room to store our things. They provided flip-flops as well as a superb sleeping mask and earplugs to make everything even more comfortable. It's also situated in a great place! All in all it's great value for money! 100% recommend. Earplugs are a must because the rooms aren’t isolated very well! Also staff could be a little friendlier. But all in all it’s superb!

This is a lovely hostel, very luxurious and affordable! The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. The atmosphere is lovely, I felt very safe. As a lone female traveller this was definitely the right place to stay. The breakfast is amazing, especially the waffles! It is situated right on the royal mile which is a beautiful location and all tourist attractions are very close! I am going to be staying here again very soon!

I recommend this place for any solo low budget travel. The hostel is extremely clean - even the common areas with kitchen (fully equipped and has some tea, salt, etc. for anyone to use plus you can order coffee and have breakfast which is always nice :)), shared bathrooms (extremely well maintained), cozy capsules (fairly big, thick blankets) and loads of space where you can store your luggage if needed. The location of the hostel is central - you can find coffee shops, restaurant and pubs all around with the historical buildings, sights, a castle, and so on, just a few minutes walk from there. No need to use public transport unless you are lazy or going down to Leith or Portobello beach :) Highly recommend!

Very pleasant visit at the CoDE Hostels in Edinburgh. The whole set up is beautiful. Late evenings you can go and have a sit down and catch up on emails or you can play a game which makes it homely! They have a kitchen and dining area as well where you can make your own meals and they cater coffee and tea for their guests. We did have a bit of an issue with the Aircon and the bed was quite uncomfortable. Nicely suited in the old town centre of Edinburgh which is close to amenities.

Anyone visiting Edinburgh showed book CoDE for the duration of their stay. It's central to everything you'll vist easy to get back to after a day or 2 of walking around and getting to know the layout. The breakfast is worthwhile for £7, it will be one of the best and most inexpensive breakfast you'll have. And I emphasis this YOU MUST GO TO THE HOSTEL EVENTS. If you wanna meet lovely people go to the CoDE ran events at night like Music Trivia or Scottish food tasting. This is where I met people who I later went on trips with, nights out, graveyard hunting (Thomas Riddel Grave) and had loads of Kareoke fun with. If you on a solo trip, friends trip, family or any other kind of trip CoDE Hostel can only make your stay in Edinburgh 10 times better!
