Can't fault this hotel at all. Excellent service and friendly staff. Location couldn't be better. Reasonable price for a 5 star hotel. A bottle of prosecco and chocolates in our room as it was our wedding anniversary, a really nice touch.

What a fantastic hotel full of character! Room was great, Nespresso machine was a nice added extra. Used the spa, bit disappointed that the hot tub wasn't working but knew about this before we arrived. Had a few drinks in The Caley (a gin lovers paradise!) before going out. Bed was really comfy and bathroom spotless. Breakfast was unbelievable! The...

We arrived at the hotel and suddenly realized that we left something on the bus from the airline!!! The service at the hotel was simply amazing - especially the charming and helpful concierge gentleman Issam. He promptly called the bus company, that was closed, but helped us figure out how to retrieve our item. This was just the beginning. We...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
