I spent 4 nights there and it was great! The hostel looks like a palace and the living rooms are awesome with great views! The stuff is very friendly and everything is clean. They give you free tea, coffee and hot chocolate and even milk. Also, for 1.5£ you can have breakfast and it's not bad consideing the price. It...

The hostel is really beautiful, decorated as a medieval castle with original decoration in all the rooms. The hostel is clean, full of activities with professional staff. You will get information about free tours and about tours in Scotland (I made a 3 days tour with Macbackpackers) I just spend two nights there but i will definitely come back in...

I stayed 4 nights at the hostel and I enjoy it. I liked that they have a ladies bathroom/showers, the location was perfect (in general Edinburgh is easy to walk), clean, they have cool activities and the option for having breakfast is really convenient. Definitely if I coming back I would stay here again.

We actually didn't stay in the Hostel but we stopped in to see if they had an Internet Cafe so we could print boarding passes as our accommodation didn't have it and the gentleman at the front desk (I'm so sorry I didn't get a name!) was so incredibly helpful. He helped relieve so much stress from our day. Next...

This hostel wins on all sorts of levels. It's in a great location to start, close to bars and places to eat with fab views of the castle. It is a very large hostel, so lots of socialising with other travelers and the large number of workers who are all lovely. They have lots of activities going on if you...

This was the worst hostel room I have seen in my entire life. Three nights on this double private room was a complete torture. Smallest room I have stayed in my life... not a free centimeter between the bed and the wall on three of the four sides of the bed. Completely Humid, no heating, very low roof... completely soffocating......

Great Hostel, beautiful and huge common areas, you really feel you are in an ancient castle by the decoration and dimension of the rooms. Staff is very friendly and helpul, rooms are big and beds are comfortable compared to other hostels. you can have breakfast for aprox 1.5pounds every morning which comes in handy. The location is great, it is...

Great location, staff, and activities! My only qualm is that there's only one bathroom on each floor, not including the ground floor. I had such a great time that I can't be too bothered though. The showers are well laid out inside with a separating curtain which makes changing a lot easier in the cramped washroom in the morning.

First, this hostel is spectacularly well-located. It's about a 10 minute walk from Waverley train station and it's pretty easy to find from there. Also, it's literally a 1 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle and is just branched off from one of Edinburgh's best streets, the Royal Mile. I have nothing bad to say about the hostel itself. Dorms are...

My sister and I stayed here for a weekend and absolutely loved our time! The hostel is in a very central location in the heart of the old town (a stones throw from Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile). Everything we wanted to see was within walking distance, not more than 30 minutes away, so we dint' need to waste...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
