Detailed Reviews
Stayed for one night midweek with a friend on my first visit to Edinburgh, the hotel is located only a short walk away from the station and the location is perfect for getting around Edinburgh. The new lobby area looks amazing and all the staff I came across at reception were super friendly and helpful, and upon checkout we were able to leave our luggage until later on. The room we stayed in was incredible and I did not expect it to be so good for the price, plenty of space, comfy beds, amazing waterfall shower and loads of convenient amenities such as a fridge and a coffee machine, as well as the treat of a Tunnock’s tea cake and a little bottle of Prosecco each in the room on arrival. Had some issues with the wifi but this is understandable in such an old building, and this was made up for with the games consoles etc in the room as well as Bluetooth speakers. Overall we had a wonderful stay and wish we had stayed for longer, will definitely be back!

We arrived at round 3pm for a 1 night stay without breakfast. Our welcome email we were sent prior to arrival advised us of discounted parking through an approved NCP car park just down the road which is very convenient.
We checked in and were allocated a room on the 2nd floor, room 205 to be exact. The room was small, but it was clean and had everything you needed. Bottled water, tea coffee, and even tunnocks tea cakes were a nice touch. The en suite had a shower which was a rainfall effect and was very powerful. The downside to the shower is that because it is a walk in without an enclosure the water sprays and wets the floor and the mats provided are not the best nor are they non slip.
The bed is comfortable but I think it is a small double rather than a standard double. The pillows are of basic condition and I would have preferred the option of one firm and one soft. There is a safe in the wardrobe which is great as it is complimentary for the duration of your stay.
We returned from sightseeing in Edinburgh and decided to ask if there was the possibility of extending our stay for an extra night. The gent on reception was very friendly and was able to book us in but we would have to move rooms, this was not an issue and we were advised after our first night to hand our keys in for room 205 and we would be allocated another room.
The next morning we were allocated room 210, this is once again on the 2nd floor but at the opposite end of the corridor. This room should be AVOIDED at all costs. Room 210 backs on to the main stairwell which links to the fire exit and beer garden of the adjoining pub. It is extremely loud until the bar closes and you can hear each and every footstep from anyone that walks up or downstairs and my guess is that it is not solely for the use of guests. One again the pillows on the bed are of mediocre standard and I had a worse nights sleep on these pillows compared to the ones in 205.
The next morning as part of our extended stay we had included breakfasts for us both. I chose the full Scottish which was well presented and delivered hot and fresh. My partner had the flatbread which he commented was better than he expected. The buffet selection was varied and fresh, but I think somethings such as the sour dough should have some form of tea towel or napkins to cover it to prevent many hands touching the piece which you intend to eat.
On check out we were asked how our overall stay was by the lady on reception. I voiced by concerns about room 210 and how apart from those issues our stay had been pleasant. She did not seem to know how to take the complaint feedback and did not offer to follow it up with her superiors or managers.
Overall if you want a very centrally located hotel, which offers discount parking, the Stay Central Hotel offers this but I would be requesting not to be allocated room 210 by email or telephone prior to your arrival.

Pre pandemic we stayed in lots of hotels (Premier, Jury’s etc.) usually for one or two nights when we were going to a gig. Decided to stay somewhere a bit different this time and was so glad we did! This lovely old building is very central and definitely not run of the mill. The foyer is cool, colourful, uncluttered with displays of pictures and some groovy wall and furniture painting. So very different to the overwhelmingly, staid purpleness of Premier Inn (not thatI I’m knocking Premier). The rooms we stayed in (small doubles) were unfussy, clean, again interesting, modern decor, with comfortable beds, air con, bluetooth speakers, an enormous smart tv, drink making facilities and a rainfall shower in the ensuite. The shower deserves a special mention…I would return just to use this shower again! The ensuite is stocked with quality soap/shower gel/shampoo (loved them all). One really good point was the recycling bin in the room so waste can be separated into different containers.
All the staff were friendly and went out of the way to be helpful. Lovely Martha on reception who offered us free coffee and croissants in the morning.
We would return here as the location is so good (Brewdog pub next door), can be a little noisy at night but this is only to be expected in such a central position.
I felt as though we were staying somewhere abroad as this hotel reminded me of ones we have stayed at when not in the UK.
Yes, we will stay here again and hopefully for longer next time!

Stayed on a Sunday night after Storm Ciara prevented travel options South and needed a central good value place to stay. This fitted the bill and we arrived with low expectations, but were very pleased with the room size, the bed quality, good coffee in the room, and simple but clean decor. breakfast was great as well, all in the centre of town. As its part and parcel of a lively friendly sports bar might be noisy on a different weekend night but we werent disturbed at all, with the rooms seemingly well insulated away from the pub. excellent stay

Noisy, not accurately advertised. It’s the sort of place that relies on online bookings because you certainly wouldn’t walk in off the street and think ‘ooh this is nice, let’s pay an over inflated price’. DO NOT accept room 106, it’s the one next to the upstairs bar and directly above the outside bar. Expect screaming and shouting past 1am and barrels rolling around at 7am. If I wasn’t so tired from lack of sleep then I would have demanded my money back. Oh and the 20% off parking ticket at holyrood multi story they give you doesn’t work on leaving the car park, so expect a big bill.

Good afternoon Howard, We're truly disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us. As stated on our website along with any third party booking sites, we are centrally located in the heart of Edinburgh's lively Old Town, and surround the world famous Three Sisters which is a very popular destination for anyone looking for a great night out in the city. We can only apologise that we were not suitable for your needs on your stay. With regards to the 20% ticket at Holyrood, thank you for bringing this to our attention and we shall look into this to ensure any issues do not continue for our guests. Many thanks, The Stay Central Team

Stayed at this hotel from 29/01 - 01/02 2020 it was an AMAZING stay! i was upgraded into a huge room! so my stay started off very well. The room was very clean! extremely well equipped with a huge TV, Safe Box (with custom code), Tea Kettle, Coffee and many more amenities, it was such a pleasure to be staying there, and since i was there for work i had a nice office space to work on, also USB plugs on walls help to charge your phone fast! the room is also equipped with nice Bluetooth speakers also in shower!!! :) The breakfast really was amazing, not only did one have a big continental breakfast buffet available, but also one could order a scottish breakfast! Coffee was made on demande every day! nice area to sit inside but also outside to enjoy your breakfast and even watch the news on a HUGE screen! a tent protects us smokers to enjoy a coffee and watch the news on the outdoor tv. The restaurant has really good food! my favorite had to be the crispy chicken burger! Thank you for making my stay a perfect one! whatever you need the reception team will do the impossible for you to have a nice enjoyable stay! :)) looking forward to revisiting this hotel in the near future!

We were shocked to discover that we had to enter and exit this hotel through a courtyard night club with ‘very experienced’ bouncers on the gate with our two children. There was no information provided to us beforehand about this situation. We entered our room to discover that it overlooked the outside bar and was not sound proofed. Staff were polite but informed us there was no alternative and pulled out a box of ear plugs as the solution - seems they had heard this complaint before! They also advised that the loud music would be until 1am generally and on NYE 5am. A big dampener on our holiday experience so far. It is centrally located but there are many other hotels that are too.....
After 3 nights of no sleep at half a thousand AUD a night - paid more than six months in advance, we left a day early....no refund available!
If you are having a bucks night or hens night or in your twenties travelling with friends, this is the place for you. As an experienced traveler it is not the place for families and definitely not a place I want my teenage daughter to experience.

They didn’t bother telling me they had moved to a new location, so I spent an hour wandering around Edinburgh, asking people at pubs if they knew anything. I received two emails from Stay Central (through Booking.com) and both told me to go to their original location on Cowgate which is under construction. I ended up wandering around for an hour and a half with a laptop, books, notebooks, etc., as I am here for research, I missed my research appointment, and when I got to the new place, I didn’t get more than a shrug. Absolutely atrocious! The concierge told me that someone had tried to contact me but received no reply. That’s absolute nonsense—never happened. Also, I called the hotel’s number from their website (which also says nothing about the move), left a message, and no one ever returned my call! I received only two emails about my reservation—one was a confirmation of payment/reservation, the other confirming that my request for a quiet room would be honoured. That’s it! Lastly, I had chosen Stay Central for its location, near the National Museum, where my research appointment was, and I ended up back across the street from Waverly Station, where I had arrived on my trip to Edinburgh. This trip was a complete and utter waste of time, and an unnecessary cause of stress.

My husband booked this hotel as we have never been to Edinburgh and wanted a place that was fairly central.
It is well located and just a short walk from an excellent selection of restaurants, bars and cafes in th grassmarket area.
However, the hotel is like a posher, glorified hostel. I think it would appeal to a younger generation of travellers by I wasn't impressed.
We paid extra for an executive room but all we got was a very small double room that felt a little like a cell but with a n additional small sofa squeezed into a small recess.
The view from our room was non existent and when The window was open the room filled with the smells from the kitchen below.
The wi fi didn't work properly, the tv didn't work properly ( both caused by poor signal issues). Half of the electrical sockets in the room didn't work and the room was not cleaned or serviced by housekeeping during our 2 night stay.
The bathroom looked nice but was only a step in shower with an overhead faucet. No bath or option to have a shower without getting your hair wet.
The bathroom walls were grubby and when using the shower, I had to turn off the water, mid shower because the basin did not drain quickly enough resulting in water flooding out onto the bathroom floor, soaking the floor mat.
The bedroom flooring had lifted in some places and actually caused me to catch my toes and trip twice, in the tiny space leading from the bathroom into the bedroom.
The room rates were not cheap but I have stayed in many hotels and quite frankly this was a disgrace for the price charged.
When my husband spoke to a member of staff at the reception about the fault with the flooring and the shower he was offered no more than a polite, " oh yes, we know about the shower"!!!!!

Our first impression was not great, a very small, rather jumbled looking lobby and loud groundfloor pub made us fear the worst. But once we were in our room, we felt very cosy. The floors and furniture were made of wood and give the room a comfortable, welcoming feel. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The bathroom large, brand new and with great natural soaps. The room had usb chargers and a bluetooth sound system so we could play music from our phones. We'll be back!

Hi Bidaiari77,
Yes, we do have a USB connector in the plug sockets in our bedrooms.

I’m so sorry I did’t see your question before now. No, we didn’t have any parking.
Hi badmoon81!
The easiest and quickest way to reach us from the airport is by taxi - this will take around 25 minutes and cost approximately £25.
However, a cheaper option would be to use the Edinburgh Tram or Airlink 100 Bus, both leave from outside Edinburgh Domestic arrivals at the airport and after a 30 minute journey will drop you at Princes Street. From there the hotel is just a 10 minute walk. Both will cost around £5!
I hope this has been helpful for you however please do not hesitate to call us directly on 0131 6226801 should you need more details or have any further questions.

Hi RoseBallerine,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
We do have ironing boards & irons available in the hotel, these can be delivered to your room upon request at our 24 hour reception!
