Finally visited and was not disappointed. Had a window seat overlooking the gardens which was excellent. Great selection of good for the afternoon tea which was just a little different. Savouries were delicious as was the rest of the food. Enjoyed the most amazing rhubarb rooibos tea, which I was advised is locally sourced. The decor is amazing and quirky! Opulent extravagance indeed!
We stayed in the Owners Suite for 3 nights and were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. We were met by the friendly concierge at the car, he took our luggage to the room while we checked in and there was complementary champagne and chocolates in the room (every day!). The rooms in the Owners Suite are very opulant and luxurious, a great bathroom and a really comfortable 4 poster bed, every need catered for. We also dined in the Rhubarb restaurant that first evening, absolutely wonderful food, cocktails, and fantastic service. The breakfasts were also excellent, with masses of choice. The concierge kindly gave us directions for walking into the centre of Edinburgh via Holyrood Park, which was a lovely walk (about 45 minutes). I cannot recommend Prestonfield highly enough, we had a really special few days and would like to thank the amazing staff for making us feel so welcome.…
From the moment we stepped out the car we were given a warm welcome and accompanied by umbrella carrying doorman into the warm opulent front entrance. Our champagne afternoon tea was faultless and every bite delicious. We couldn’t finish everything despite out best efforts so a doggy bag was provided. The roaring log fire was regularly fed logs so we could easily have stayed for hours and hours feeling cosy and relaxed. All the staff were friendly helpful and added to a relaxed feeling of being valued. The decor is utterly stunning with rich colours and period furnishings paintings and atmospheric lighting from an abundance of table lamps. I’m not leaving it another 10 years for our return visit.
My mother had a wedding here which was all served and accommodated by our fantastic waiter named Rico. It was super impressive to have Rico be with us all night, always there to make sure everything was okay and consistently making sure we all had no empty glasses. The food was amazing as well as the venue itself. Unforgettable experience:)
What a treat. Recommend by family member and so glad that we went. Menu was divine and it such a beautiful, historical setting. Cameron, our waiter, was extremely attentive and helpful. The sommelier too was fantastic. Definitely start your dinner with a wee glass of something as this place is quite something! Gluten free bread was delicious!
Enjoyed a 4 night staycation at the Prestionfield and enjoyed every minute of it. From the minute we arrived until our departure every member of staff was pleasant and helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Good choice of food on the breakfast menu with huge portions which set us up for the day ahead. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant each evening, food again was delicious. The hotel is well located for Arthur’s seat and is only a 5 minute drive into Edinburgh city centre. We will definitely be back.
My favourite place to stay in Edinburgh - always cosy, welcoming, full of character, great food and staff. You just feel cosseted and looked after - you pay more than other places for that but it’s worth every penny to stay somewhere so individual.
So I’ve been here before and had the afternoon tea before too. This time round I opted for the champagne afternoon tea with my partner. Booking was pretty simple and was able to do this online the same day. A card is required to secure your reservation, I’m presuming that’s so your charged if you don’t show up, not sure why. I don’t remember doing this before however it’s not an issue. This venue is excellent for the Covid conscious following regulations. There is hand sanitiser everywhere as well as tables spaced far apart from each other, while still being cosy! There’s nothing to worry about here. Staff are very attentive although we seem to have a nervous guy who was possibly new? He was friendly and checked in every 15/20 minutes I only noticed as his hand was shaking a little when moving the saucers to the table from the tray. I wish I got his name as he was excellent and friendly. There was also a second member of staff who constantly replaced the firewood in the fireplace I did try to start a short conversation just asking how many times he has to do that, but he didn’t seem to want to talk. Actually more like he wasn’t allowed? Maybe it was just unexpected for me to ask? He answered my question and then wished me a pleasant evening. Sandwiches and cakes were great and so we’re the pots of tea. We shared a afternoon tea between us each with a pot and additional glass of champagne. The whole experience was nice from them accommodating my request to be in the leather room to sit in front of the fireplace. It’s always super clean and everyone is always friendly. I’ll be definitely coming back at some point yet again and I would highly recommend the afternoon tea. I will say that it’s not the cheapest for afternoon tea however you pay for the service and the atmosphere and the venue and grounds are immaculate. If you get the chance to go here don’t miss it.…
We had our wedding here in October and it was absolutely fantastic. Everything was so organised from start to end. Gavin and the team were fab. Our ceremony was in the Italian Room and our reception was in one half of the Rhubarb restaurant and the room just looked fabulous. Food was exceptional - we've eaten here quite a lot and as we were a small group we could do private dining menu so each guest had three choice for each course. If anyone is thinking about getting married here I would go for it, especially if you want a stress free wedding. They are also dog friendly which was important as my springer spaniel brother could be at the ceremony and meal.
Alot of money for an afternoon tea we almost finished, I have left with 2 doggy bags from other locations before. However we were gifted a voucher so personally didnt have to pay and thoroughly enjoyed the food - though perhaps the cucumber sandwich could have been a tad more inspiring. Nice staff, amazing atmosphere in the Drawing room. However one disappointing thing, on booking i mentioned it was my Dads birthday i received a response back saying 'his birthday had been noted' i thought that meant reference would be made to his birthday on arrival - NOTHING so dont say its been noted as if you are going to do something special for him and do nothing, any time i have mentioned this to other venues they have provided some sort of acknowledgment.
