The rooms are so comically small I genuinely laughed out loud on entering mine. I reckon there was about 2 foot square of free floor space in total. The room is basically a box with a bed jammed into an alcove created by a wall and the toilet/shower cubicle. Every movement has to be meticulously planned as some things will involve having to open or close the toilet door, even when the toilet is not part of what you're trying to do. You have to leave the toilet door open to sit on the toilet, and while sitting on the toilet your right foot will be in the shower tray. The walls are so thin I could hear a neighbouring 'guest' brushing their teeth. It also bears pointing out that you have to ask, and pay extra for, a window. But beware purchasing a window, as during my stay the window cleaner arrived outside my window at 6am and proceeded to clean the window with, as far as I could tell, a half brick. The whole experience was more or less like spending a night in bright orange prison. Was clean enough though, I'll give them that.

Dear Graham, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear your stay with us wasn't satisfactory. As a low-budget hotel, we offer space-efficient rooms with minimal facilities, that were designed to fulfill the basic needs of our guests. We understand that our concept might not be suitable for everyone, which is why we place such an importance on going through all the information on our websites, where we share things, such as photos of the rooms and provide their precise dimensions. We are presenting our amenities as clearly as we could and we are very sorry if this has not been made clear to you before you booked your stay. We have 3 types of room available in our hotel and guests chooses which type of room they would like to book. We can only assist our guests with the room upgrade if they wish to change the type of room they booked. We apologize for windows cleaners disturbing your stay, we informed all our guests about scheduled cleaning and left a note in the rooms. Kind regards, easyHotel

Would not recommend the room on the website advertised a nice view of Edinburgh Castle instead the only view I got was off a portacabin toilet inside my plastic pod it felt like was the newest member of big brother. Had a more comfortable sleep curiosity of police scotland the bed was rock solid!! Too top it all off while me and the misus were doing our thing someone knocked on the wall sure it added a bit of spice to things but I would really like a bit of privacy

Hello, We are disappointed that you found our room size to be small. easyHotel Edinburgh is a budget hotel which offers space-efficient rooms, designed to meet basic needs. We have tried to maximize the space in order to provide the most competitive price in the heart of the city center. As a super budget hotel, we only offer the basics for a good night’s sleep which are bed, shower and warmth. Our offer is directed to the specific type of travelers who are looking for affordable accommodation in the great location wanting to explore the city rather than staying in the hotel. We are a super budget hotel offering simple value and basic facilities which may not be suitable for everybody. This is why the detailed information regarding room sizes and facilities can be found online, where it can be seen before making a booking. It is the Guest who chooses a certain type of room (with window, windowless or standard). There is also an option to upgrade the room (if available) when the room booked does not meet the Guest's expectations. We understand that our concept is not for everybody this is why we place such an importance on reading all the information opposed to checking only the location and price. We’re sorry to hear you didn’t find your stay to be good value for money. Thank you again for your time, and our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Best regards, easyHotel Edinburgh Team

A three night stay booked. I have never stayed in such a disgusting hotel in my life. Yes I know it is a budget hotel but it's not budget prices. The room was tiny with a very small window. A tv screen the size of laptop nowhere to put your clothes, the bathroom/ toilet was a pod that you could barely move in and if you were in the bed next to the wall you had to climb over your partner to get out of the bed to go to the loo. Easyhotel should be ashamed of themselves. No toiletries and no room cleaning service unless you wanted to pay! After 1 night we decided to lose the money we paid and go somewhere else a bit more up market. This as I said was disgusting and really not the cleanest of places either.

I had the misfortune of staying here last week and definitely wouldn't recommend it. I was going to Edinburgh to catch up with a friend who lives outside the city centre, so I wasn't particularly bothered about having a luxury hotel - I just wanted somewhere to sleep and where I could park my car in a guaranteed space so I could move it freely during the duration of my trip. I found EasyHotel on Booking.com and initially thought £135 was excessive for an EasyHotel, but as the booking.com listing showed that parking was included, it seemed to meet all my requirements and I booked in good faith. It was only later when I started preparing for my trip that I actually looked at the hotel location and couldnt see where there could possibly be parking in that location, so I contacted the hotel, to be told that parking wasnt included - rather the listing showed parking because they offered a discount code for a nearby NCP carpark at a rate of £15 for 24 hours instead of £35. I made a formal complaint, but instead of doing the decent thing and offering to refund and cancel my booking, they directed me to small print on the booking.com site that mentioned the parking being a third party discount (you would never have found this on the listing without being directed to it) and left it at that. Appalling customer service. If I'd known this was the situation with parking, I would have just booked another hotel which offered parking! I then came to attempt to book parking with the NCP carpark, and the discount code I was given wouldnt work. I rang up and was told that the discount code was not valid to pre-book - you can only use it by turning up at the carpark and using it when you park. Given that it was the middle of the Edinburgh Fringe and I wouldn't be arriving in Edinburgh until mid-afternoon, I wasn't comfortable to just take my chances that there would be parking spaces left when I arrived, so I ended up having to pre-book parking at another carpark, which cost me an additional £25, and again this was a multi-storey carpark where I just had to leave my car for the duration of the trip and then use Ubers to travel around Edinburgh which added another £30 onto the expenses of my trip. I then got to the Hotel on Friday. I'd stayed at other Easy Hotels in the past so I thought I knew what to expect, but I'd paid less than £50 in those and the rooms were at least what you could call rooms with a reasonable size bathroom etc. When I got to Edinburgh, and saw the room I'd paid £135 for, I was absolutely appalled. It was smaller than a prison cell. The bathroom is the size of an airplane toilet but with a shower cramped in as well. The toilet was so close to the sink that it was completely unhygenic. I don't think I would have been so angry if the room was being sold for a price relative to the facilities. If the rooms were being sold for £30-£40 like EasyHotel used to do, I wouldn't have a problem, but to charge £135 for a place like this, just because demand is there with Edinburgh Fringe demonstrates absolute greed and contempt for customers. And listing Parking when there was no private parking is blatant fraud - they could have quite easily listed no parking but put in the description that there is a third party discount with NCP and that would have been fine. Instead my entire trip was a disaster through having to fork out for parking, ubers etc

Hello Dan, Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. We are sorry to read that your stay with us wasn't satisfactory. First of all, we understand our concept may not be suitable for everybody and we are trying to be as transparent as possible regarding the hotel facilities and extra charges. We are sorry to read that you are disappointed with the Booking.com listing regarding the parking facility. Please be advised that parking is stated in the facilities list on the website, not in the small print. We would like to apologize if this was not made clear to you before deciding to book with us. We always recommend booking directly with www.easyhotel.com where parking options are more than visible. Additionally, instructions sent to you regarding the parking process by Booking.com explain step by step what to do to use discounted space. It doesn't contain any information about the pre-booking option. We hope you read the message with understanding to avoid expectations not being met. We are disappointed that you found our room size to be small. easyHotel Edinburgh is a budget hotel which offers space-efficient rooms, designed to meet basic needs. Our offer is directed to the specific type of travellers who are looking for affordable accommodation in a great location and want to explore the city rather than stay in the hotel. There is also an option to upgrade the room (if available) when the room booked does not meet the Guest's expectations. We’re sorry to hear you didn’t find your stay to be good value for money. Our rates do fluctuate beyond our control and a busy state of the city during the Fringe and major events nearby might have an influence on the price. easyHotel is mostly chosen for its central location and low prices (by far lower than any other provider in the area). Edinburgh is an expensive city when it comes to accommodation and we are sure that Guests pay attention to that. The standard rate per night on Princes Street in August is exceeding £300. We can assure you that our team is working hard every day to improve our standards and services based on our guest’s opinions to make sure we can meet all expectations. The parking information has been removed from the platform to avoid similar inconveniences in the future. We understand that our concept is not for everybody this is why we place such importance on reading all the information as opposed to checking only the location and price. Thank you again for your time, and we apologies for any inconvenience caused. Kind Regards, easyHotel Edinburgh Team

For £100 a night, on Princes St, during the fringe, we should have guessed... But yes. This is a pod and not a hotel room. I am 6ft 2 and 17 stone and we are lucky my partner is small because we were really pushing the boundaries of this tiny room. Easyhotel must also be pushing the boundaries of fire safety because if you are travelling with any luggage at all, it will take up the entire floor space and getting in and out the room in an emergency would not be easy. I had to take my suitcase out into the hallway to open it and have room to manoeuvre. The shower and the toilet are right next to each other in an even smaller capsule of your easy tomb. Think.... the small toilet on a bus or coach but instead of just a toilet and a wash basin, it also has a shower which you are expected to be able to use comfortably. The bed itself. Sandwiched into the only other space in the room it could be, was comfy, if a little firm and when we managed to get ourselves into bed and comfortable we slept through, although if you are unlucky enough to have any party people in any room within a mile radius, you will hear everything through the paper thin walls. The staff were friendly, and helpful, and the room itself was clean, but yes, please ensure you are comfortable with sleeping in essentially something the size of an average small cleaning cupboard before booking to stay here.

Awful. Noisy, uncomfortable bed, zero space. Toilets are caravan style in the room. No cups for a drink of water, no hand towels. The bed takes the entire space, there is no floor space. The noise from the road is incredible as they have no noise insulation. As its August, the trams run all night long, and we heard every single one. They will not let you check in early even if your room is ready, and will charge you £2.50 per item of luggage for them to hold it. It is a capsule rather than a room, and an expensive one at that.

Hello, We are disappointed that you found our room size to be small. easyHotel Edinburgh is a budget hotel which offers space-efficient rooms, designed to meet basic needs. We have tried to maximize the space in order to provide the most competitive price in the heart of the city center. Cups, hand towels, hairdryers and many more are always available upon request at the reception. It is often extremely difficult to sort out difficulties properly such as you have mentioned unless we are told promptly. If you discuss the problem with us during your stay at the hotel, it can usually be sorted out straightaway. The bag charges are standard as we do not have a storage in our budget hotel.
