We stayed at the Royal Scots Club for old times sake - or 'auld lang syne' as we Scots say. It was just as we remembered although freshened up with new bathrooms, paintwork, linen etc. We really enjoyed our stay & the full Scottish breakfast is amazing. Set you up to walk up & down hills & steps as Edinburgh...

What a fantastic hotel! We truly had a lovely time here from the 12/01/17 to 15/01/16. Breakfast was delicious I had the cooked breakfast, scrambled eggs and porridge. We stayed in the basement room number 31 and even though we had no view from our window we loved the room. The receptionists and the waiting staff were wonderful. The hotel...

We had 2 great nights. Nothing to complain about, except the wifi was bad in our room! Room was clean, and well heated, with cable tv. Staff was nice and so was the breakfast! Super centrally located. Great value for money.

We spent our second stay here - three nights this time and it was overall very good indeed. Superb basement room with new bathroom and well stocked hospitality tray, replenished daily. Breakfasts were excellent, apart from toast served in a basket on two mornings - soggy fare. On our final morning, a toast rack appeared and the toast was crisp...

Our first stay at the Royal Scots Club was very enjoyable thanks to the central location, attentive staff and excellent accommodation. Breakfast was very good and we appreciated being able to choose high tea rather than dinner.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room clean and quiet, breakfast marvellous, everything was impeccable apart from the WLAN in our room (it seemed to be fine in the rest of the house, though)

This was a brilliant find. I have visited Edinburgh many times over the last 20 years and stayed in many hotels. This was a new find and we will definitely return. The quality of accomodation is excellent and the level of service worthy of a 5 star hotel. It needs to be remembered that this is a private club and...

We stayed here for our honeymoon and loved it! The hotel was clean, and it was in close walking distance to the sights, plus restaurants and food. The breakfast was great too. The staff was friendly and helpful to us with recommendations to restaurants and for transportation.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
