Stayed here this week for one night reasonbly priced, staff couldnt of being more helpful, manager Tony O Donnell more than helpful and friendly, Location couldnt be better and rooms where fantastic. Do alot of travelling around the UK for business, you can tell a lot about the hotel by the atmosphere in the bar which was great.

Has great rooms, Double Room was cheap for a weekend break, parking free WiFi, breakfast and dinner if you desire... Has some hot furniture styles here, with great views on Edinburgh. I would recommend more so around Christmas or new year.

I've just returned from a pleasant stay at the Royal British Hotel. The room exceeded my expectations, it was stylish and modern - and the bathroom was everything my interior dreams are made of! That shower! Also, is it just me, or is the scent in reception divine?! Would love to know what brand it is. Only slight niggle was... More

I recently stayed one night. This hotel is very centrally located: being just across Princes Street from the escalator down to Waverley Station and just a block or so from the terminus in St Andrew Sq. of the tram service to the Airport. The bedrooms are well appointed, spacious and comfortable. They are well soundproofed from external and internal noise.... More

Right opposite the mainline train station, close to all the shops and 10 minute walk to a Q car park. Rooms were very clean and all individually styled. The staff were very attentive and the bar area was comfortable with plenty of private areas to sit in. The building seemed very historic but a mix of modern with traditional inside.

We only had a couple of days notice to try to book a good hotel in Edinburgh at a weekend which is easier said than done but The Royal British was the perfect hotel for a couple of nights stay in this fabulous city. The location is perfect. Pretty much right over the road from the train station although you... More

Whilst the hotel has an imposing sign 3 floors up there is little to identify the entrance at street level. Renovation work is in progress and the entrance still requires finishing, but once upstairs the lobby, bar and dining room are welcoming and comfortable. Breakfast is quite expensive, and slightly disappointing when you are informed that it is full breakfast... More

To be honest this is my second stay at the hotel in the last 5 months & my first stay in June was not very good as they were in the midst of a total refurbished of the hotel. But on my return in October it was as different as Night & Day! The hotel was stunning, the room spot... More

Most people will come here as the location is really terrific. Bang opposite Waverley train station on Princess Street. The hotel knows this and doesn't even bother ensuring that the hotel signage is visible. As few reviewers have pointed out it can be a bother finding the right entrance door. Rooms, post the recent renovation, are clean. Size is small... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
