Stayed twice , and good in both occasions, room amazing, food v good only problem is parking but that's not there fault, it would be good if you could buy a visitors permit. We parked for 2 hours in Waitrose till 5.30 then it was free. And when we went out we parked in Morrisons

Location great, away fro th hustle and bustle. Short walk to Stockbridge, slightly longer walk to Princess Street. Reception rather dull and this was matched by the receptionists. Room comfortable and clean with great view towards new town, but the hotel urgently needs a make over. The decor is tired and worn. Best part was breakfast. Quality of the breakfast...

Situated about 10 minutes walk from Princes Street this was a real gem. I was worried about parking in Edinburgh and it is a pain but there were plenty of spaces outside the hotel but you have to pay for it during the week; costs 2 pound an hour. Paid parking is from 830 until 530 which is fine for...

There is not much to criticize. The room was small but very nice, the bed was good, I had a lovely view, it was quiet. Breakfast was excellent, fresh croissants, fruit and eggs of all kinds, A 15 minute walk to Princes Street, but there are also buses. Internet access is a bit slow.

Enjoyed 2 full days and 1 night in edinburgh and stayed at Channings. We were greeted by friendly helpful staff who kept our luggage till check in time. Our room was more like a suite with a tv/lounge area, a large bedroom with a queen bed and a beautiful bathroom with roll top bath...very nice. The hotel was stylish and...

After nearly 24 hours of travel and no sleep we could hardly stand up anymore, The staff at the Channings was very sympathetic and got our room ready early despite being very busy with Mother's day travelers. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about the city and the best places to eat and visit. Also helped us a lot to...

We very much enjoyed our two-night stay at Channings. We had a lovely comfortable double room overlooking the gardens, with a good-sized bathroom (loved the jacuzzi bath!). The Hotel reception area with open fire and reception rooms were lovely. We were also able to enjoy the courtyard garden at the back as the weather was so pleasant during our stay....

Channings could be fantastic, the rooms are lovely and the staff very friendly but a couple of ill thought out ideas spoil a perfect break. The breakfast is served in a lovely conservatory with a decent selection of food, the staff though are not very well organised so you can end up waiting a while for tea, toast etc, we...

Arrived here and stayed for three nights. Put in a room at the stairway away from the other rooms. Room 42. Room extremely small for a three night stay. Not enough storage in the room. Had to take the ironing board and spare blankets out of the wardrobe to get storage. One side of bed had a small shelve just...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia reflecting the history of previous tenant Sir Ernest Shackleton. ... more   less
