We stay at the Bruntsfield best western every year and have done so for the last 10 years. If you need the best professional excellent service and advice ask for Imogen, she is the best and always makes our stay special for us. The breakfast waitress Jean in the restaurant has the experience to make hospitality look easy when we know from our own experience it is anything but. Maria at Reception went above and beyond for us making us feel special on our break. See you next year Bruntsfield x

The hotel is in a beautiful old building with a large, bright, and comfortable lobby. Check-in was quick and pleasant. I would have liked to have been given more general information about the hotel upon check-in, such as how to control the room lights, and information about the restaurant downstairs ("The Neighborhood'). My room was spacious, updated, and very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless, bright, and modern. The bed was of average comfort, with nice sheets and plenty of covers. There was a Nespresso machine with a choice of three coffees and an electric teapot with a good supply of delicious Brodie's teas, milk, and sugar (I'm a coffee drinker, but the tea was much better than the coffee). There were also Scottish tea cakes, which I had not had before but that are essentially a S'Mores with the chocolate on the outside and a gooey, very sweet marshmallow (there was also a bowl full of them for the taking in the lobby). Breakfast in The Neighborhood is very good and reasonably priced. They give a discount if you let them know beforehand that you are having breakfast. They serve a full Scottish breakfast and have a vegetarian version as well. They also have a continental breakfast that I did not partake of, but it looked very good. I had dinner twice in The Neighborhood, and found it curious that no one greeted me or showed me to a table. Maybe that's custom, but I found I just had to pick a table and seat myself. Service for the first dinner (which was admittedly a little late in the evening) was less than attentive. At my second dinner there, the service was excellent. There is a bus stop almost directly across from the hotel, and there are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Using the Google Maps app gives you all the information you need to know which bus(es) to take to wherever. The Meadows, a large park, is directly across from the hotel. Public transportation from the airport is not very convenient, so I found a taxi was my best bet. The system for catching a taxi from the airport is extremely efficient and self-explanatory. I used the Free Now app to schedule pickup to return to the airport, but the front desk could have arranged it, as well. It cost me 46 pounds, including tip, for the ride to the airport.

The hotel was not as good as I expected it to be. An impressive building, and highish prices, suggested a rather better experience. Food (breakfast) was good, and staff were generally good: but the room - a standard double - was somewhat cramped, a wee bit tired, and had issues. Firstly, the toilet flush didn't work properly, the shower unit didn't work properly, and the extractor fan never came on. Secondly, although I accept it's difficult to control sound levels from outside in a road-facing room, the single glazed, badly fitting window meant that it was noiser than otherwise: surely it would not cost much to fit secondary glazing? Until that's addressed, go for a room on the other side. The hotel maintenance could perhaps be improved - the buttton panel on the lift fell off when I pressed the button! In summary, not a disaster, and no heads really need to roll; but a bit of a disappointment.

Dear Seaside51253186274, Thank you for your review and for your feedback and I'm sorry it wasn't a faultless stay. We have now addressed the points you raise regarding the shower, the toilet flush and the lift panel was replaced by our engineer. Maintenance faults do occur from time to time and we always aim to get them resolved as soon as possible. I also think that the previous guest had switched off the power to the bathroom fan. Of course, traffic & exterior noise is a little harder to resolve as we are in the city centre but we are considering what you suggest, however we are a listed building so its not straight forward unfortunately. Regards, Alistair Bruce General Manager

We had a wonderful two night stay at the Bruntsfield. Rooms were clean and the breakfast choice was really good. The staff at breakfast, Jean and Thomas, were very helpful. All the reception staff, including Angela and Imogen, were very welcoming, kind and informative. We had an emergency the second night where one of our group had to go to hospital and both night porters went above and beyond to help. The bar staff, Alex and Shreya were exceptionally good, advising on wines etc. The food was delicious!
