Reception was very welcoming, rooms comfortable, excellent shower and free WIFi. We would have eaten breakfast but the cost was a little too expensive for us. Good location with tram stop into city centre, very close by.

Friendly and helpful Receptionist on check-in. Reception area is a bit basic. We were allocated room 208, which was lovely and clean but very small. Toiletries and fluffy towels were supplied which were excellent. Shower was temperature controlled and could have done with being a bit hotter. Mattress and pillows were a bit too soft, like sleeping on marshmallows. We...

Have stayed here twice now, first time in a standard double room and this time in a small double room on the 4th floor. the small double was lovely with everything you needed, only problem was the room was so hot! I turned the radiator off and was lucky enough to be facing the quieter rear of hotel and had...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 weeks before we moved into our apartment in Edinburgh and I could not recommend this place enough! The facilities are great, comfy beds, warm rooms, on site restaurant etc but for us it was the friendly reception staff who made our stay enjoyable. These girls went above and beyond to help us...

My friend and I visited this Apex and it was a nice hotel with very helpful and friendly staff! Also very happy staff! Room service, reception and Hoose keeping were all really nice. Great location for the train station. My only criticism was our room was like an ice box when we arrive as the heating was turned off and...

Greeted well from receptionist at the hotel who made us feel really welcome. The process was straight forward as normal. We went to our room which was clean, but a bit dated. There was no kettle. And the random decor gave a 2* feel. Check out was straight forward. We only stayed for one night. There isn't much more to...

Dear Guest, Thank you for the review. I am pleased to read you were made to feel very welcome on your arrival. I am sorry that you felt the hotel was dated. The current room design is less than 5 years old and they have been well maintained in that time. I personally very proud of the bedrooms in the...

Although we didn't have a bad experience, we did find the hotel very expensive for what it was. I have stayed in many hotels and I thought this hotel wasn't worth the price as we paid £125 for one night and breakfast wasn't included in the price. The location isn't very good which meant we had to get taxis back...

My partner and I stayed 2 nights. Parking limited costing £8 per night. Staff very friendly. Check in quick. Room spotless. Bathroom spotless. Very comfy beds. Good facilities. Located 300 yards from hay market station . About a 20 min walk to Edinburgh centre. Either royal mile or grass market. If wanting a drink there are plenty of nice bars...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
