Very fancy hotel. Rooms completely clean and beautifully decorated. Nice Scottish feel to it if you are a tourist. Located very central, 5 minutes from the main train station and is near restaurants and other entertainment. The food in the restaurant was pricey but really really tasty.

I spent 3 nights at this lovely hotel. After a day sightseeing in the rain it was a real treat to get back and sit in front of the fire. The rooms were great and the showers were really powerful. Very enjoyable stay.

Just returned from a stay here - we loved it! It was warm, cosy and clean, breakfast was great and location is perfect for Princes Street and the Festival theatre. Very quiet and room really nice with a big comfy bed - we didn't hear a sound all night despite the central location. Like a little country house hotel complete...

A great location,5 minutes walk from the station. We were warmly welcolmed by Roderick ,which was a nice touch. The room was fantastic , really big ,clean and nicely funished. (Room 8 ). Breakfast was ok but over priced at £12.50 per head , it was nothing special. My only bad experience was being woke by some homeless person being...

We (3 couples) spent the weekend here and it proved a good choice, close to the station and an easy walk to all the sights. Calton Hill is very close and gives you wonderful views over Edinburgh, well worth the climb! The hotel rooms are clean and comfortable, ours were on the lower floor but were quiet. Staff were helpful...

Good location for the train, bus station and Princess Street and the Playhouse Theatre. The staff throughout our stay were helpful, friendly and the rooms were clean. The breakfast was very good, tasty, well presented and the staff were efficient and checked whether we wanted more, the helpings were so big already.

This was our second stay at this charming hotel. Everything was very clean and the staff were very accommodating. Very warm with copious amounts of hot water. Other reviews complain about the view but the rooms at the back, despite the views are very quiet - don't knock it. We never heard a sound and slept well. Location great, 5...

Stayed at Parliament House hotel on Christmas Eve and Christmas during my girlfriend and I's first visit to Edinburgh. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and the room was very warm and comfortable, albeit quite small, with a pretty lame view of a back alley. WiFi was free and worked well (contact reception for password), and our included breakfast...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
