The staff were very professional, helpful and friendly. This is a smart and clean hotel which is walking distance to the main city but away from the hustle and bustle. Really enjoyed my stay here and will be back in the future.

It is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. The hotel room was lovely and clean. We were in the main building this time, last time we stayed in the new building, I personally preferred the new building because it was modern whereas my husband preferred the main building and the 4 poster bed. I found the room...

Lovely hotel and felt right at home, the features through out the place were stunning and was like living in a part of history. Only a short walk in to town and comes with parking which most hotels dont so very worth staying and very reasonably priced

For a hotel that is a family run business I very much doubt you can find better. Having booked a couple of months ago for my partner and I on our visit to the christmas markets we were met with smiles and checked in quickly and shown to our room. We had upgraded for a small extra fee and found...

Recently visited here with my partner for a weekend break. When we got there the blonde lady on the reception desk was very friendly and took us to our room which was in the town house. Both buildings are beautiful so were happy to stay in either. The room was really nice, had complimentary toiletries, hairdryer, tea, coffee and hot...

Stayed for 2 nights(17/18th Nov) for my partners birthday. Visit started really well with a free room upgrade, which was lovely as was the room. Large room, lots of extras, lovely chocolates on arrival, still and sparkling water which was replaced each day and lots of other pluses. Staff were all friendly and helpful particulary the receptionist we spoke to...

We were in Edinburgh for the weekend and as usual stayed at the Dunstane - We had dinner in the restaurant on Friday and it was a lovely meal. We'd eaten earlier in the day and asked if we could just have a starter and salad. The staff were very accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We'd also been...

My stay at the Dunstane Hotel was very satisfactory. My room was very comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. I took the bus 100 from and to the airport as Tameika from the reservation had advised. It was very convenient. The centre of Edinburgh was easily reachable from the hotel (with a 20 minute walk). Breakfast was...

I loved my entire stay in Scotland and at the end of my vacation I stayed at the lovely Dunstane Hotel. It's minutes from Haymarket station, and still off the beaten path. The staff very helpful and accommodations were excellent. They have a delicious full Scottish breakfast or other options, I loved the salmon & scrambled egg with toast! I...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Dunstane dates all the way back to 1852 to a design of William Playfair, one of Edinburgh's most famous architects. Now a boutique hotel privately-owned and managed by Derek and Shirley Mowat, each of our bedrooms offers a fresh take on country house charm. You can look forward to restful nights in four-poster beds with subtle accents of current style. Or stretch out king-size and enjoy all the period details and in-room features. ... more   less
