Picked this hotel after reading a few reviews and i can say that it was a great choice. From the moment we arrived we were met by friendly and helpfull staff. We booked a delux room and i dont have a bad word to say about the accommodation. Room was clean and in good order and the ensuite large with a great walk in shower.
The hotel bar and resyurants is used by the locals which i fell is always a good sign. we ate in the hotel twice and the food was first class although the menu was a little limited but that could be me just being picky - everything we ate was first class including the breakfast. Situated in Stockbridge the hotel is about a 15/20 minute walk into town but the walk is pleasent.
If i had one possible negative it would be the parking - we were lucky and got a spot (only 4 at the side of the hotel) for the duration of our stay but on street parking were we looked was free between 1730hrs and 0830hrs but during the day parking costs £3/hour. The hotel may have permits making the last comment redundent but if you are driving it may be worth asking.
If this is on the list of possible hotels in edinburgh then you wont be dissapointed if you choose this, its close enough to the city but far enough awat to feel more relaxed.

We do only have limited parking which does operate on a 1st come 1st served basis but we are lucky that parking is free between 5.30pm & 8.30am each day and at weekends in surrounding area. I have shared your comments with our entire team. Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Kindest regards, Lyndsey Chase, Hotel Manager

Lynsey the hotel manager handled a couple of problems brilliantly and we had a wonderful stay. The hotel is styled beautifully. Room 4 was a great room to be in with a huge comfortable bed, seating area, walk in wardrobe/ dressing room and beautiful bathroom. There were great touches, some of which we used - the Dyson fan, Nespresso machine and dressing gowns. Covid precautions meant that the room wasn’t serviced but we topped up on fresh milk and coffee pods when we needed them and the towels dried each day so there was no problem there. The complimentary toiletries were welcome and the roll top bath filled with bubbles was a treat. I’m going to put a bath shelf on my Christmas list after my stay!
Breakfasts were delicious and the restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the tagine and fishcakes were wonderful.
The area is vibrant and interesting and The Raeburn is a great base for a visit to Edinburgh. We walked into the city and to Leith from the hotel.
Covid - Mask wearing and social distancing requirements mean that your stay feels safe.

The Raeburn is an amazing place to stay from start to finish; service, rooms, decor, cleanliness, food, drink - it’s all 10/10 perfect!

Megan, Lyndsey & Molly are the dream team if you need anything during your stay. Housekeeping were so lovely leaving a basket of extra towels and toiletries outside the room for our second night (sensibly they avoid coming in to the rooms unless absolutely necessary at the moment).

Breakfast is delicious, and drinks on the terrace is a great way to start the night.

Couldn’t recommend The Raeburn more, treat yourself and enjoy a stay in Stockbridge. So much on your doorstep, including the gorgeous Royal Botanic Gardens.

Just back from our second weekend break to The Raeburn. Our room was remarkably peaceful given it is above the bar. Very comfortable bed, large wardrobe in which we found an ironing board, iron, Dyson fan, proper hairdryer. They also provide hair straighteners and toiletries in the very large bathroom which has both shower and free standing bath. Fresh milk is provided in the mini-bar as well as a Nespresso machine, kettle and numerous teas. It was also fun to be able to listen to music from the iPod they provide. Breakfasts were excellent - so much choice. We also enjoyed Sunday lunch there with six friends and the food was excellent. The staff are very helpful and the bar welcoming and buzzy. We will return.

We had two nights booked in mid April 2020 and The Raeburn chose to cancel the accommodation AND they chose to keep the full payment we had made.
This was their advice in part: "It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that the Government has instructed all bars and restaurants to  temporary close our doors to help stop the spread of Covid-19." So it was no fault of ours, yet they have penalised us.
This is the amount we paid The Raeburn: $A357.
This is the amount they have refunded: $A 0

Responded 25 Mar 2020
We are all so saddened and disappointed to read this review. This was not a choice of ours to close, but on the instructions of our Government to think of the welfare of our guests and staff. We strongly support this decision and we are devastated that rather than speak with us directly you have chosen this route. The reservation you had with us was booked through a 3rd party and not direct with us therefor payment was made to them & not to us. We asked that you contact them to request your refund & we would then be contacted to ok it. The reservation was never cancelled by yourself & thankfully the company temporarily opened up the facility for hoteliers to cancel on your behalf, which we did immediately and they have refunded you. This is a very difficult & uncertain time for all of us. This misunderstanding was unfortunate in a such a worrying time when we should stand together. We trust that you will be happy now and we do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you to The Raeburn in the future when this nightmare for all of us is over. Kind regards, Lyndsey Chase. My husband and I have spent plenty of time at the Raeburn, in the restaurant, the lounge and at private functions, so the friendly and helpful staff are no surprise to us. We have always felt welcome and at home. When we visit Edinburgh, for any reason it is always a favourite stop.

After enjoying the food, drink and camaraderie for the past 4 years we finally stayed overnight and enjoyed one of the beautiful rooms.

From floor to ceiling wainscoting on two walls to the extra large bed with the impressive headboard, we absolutely loved the room and knew right away this luxurious room is the nicest room we’ve ever stayed in.

We have a king sized bed at home but the very comfortable bed was big even for us.

In the corner was a grand oak Narnia wardrobe that opened, surprisingly into a dressing room with full length mirror and makeup table with light up mirror.

The fridge was stocked with fresh milk for coffees and crisps and tunnuks tea cakes all complimentary. Also pop, spirits, wine and beer were stocked for a price, if you wanted. Of course, we’d just been in the lounge so we didn’t need more drinks.

The bathroom was beautiful and modern with a double walk in shower on one side and a deep soaker tub on the other with a double sink between them.

An electric window blind that goes up and down with a flick of the switch, in room coif and tea and the use of a blow dryer and iron stored on the walk in closet we’re like extra sprinkles on a perfect stay.

And if all that wasn’t enough, breakfast, which included anything off the breakfast menu was free.

Thank you to all for making the Raeburn one of our favourite Edinburgh destinations.

Although it is nearly 18 months (Sept 2019) since I celebrated my 'significant' birthday at the Raeburn I felt a review would be in order to offer support during lockdown. From the moment of booking the private dining facilities and library we were provided with a service 'second to none'. A party of 20+ staying the weekend. The fine dining facilities and accommodation were excellent along with the brilliant atmosphere within the hotel. Rooms were spotless, spacious, elegant, in particular the bathrooms with showers/roll-top baths and more than well equipped. We were upgraded to a room with a 'secret' dressing room which was amazing. Lyndsey (Manager) and Megan (Events Manager) attention to detail was excellent ensuring menu and accommodation needs were met and all the little extra details requested were provided, always in a professional and friendly manner. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, in particular, Scott. Breakfast choice was brilliant, catering for all needs. We can't wait to return as do other members of the party. Thank you The Raeburn.

I was quite apprehensive about the noise from the bar/restaurant area floating up to the room but after some reassurance from Molly I went ahead and booked. Molly was right! Not sure how they did it but there was no noise at all!
Very impressed with every aspect of this hotel. friendly, efficient service, delicious food and clean, comfortable and relaxing accommodation.
The location is great, although there is a large building being constructed next door - not sure what it is or how it will impact the hotel?
As per the hotel website parking is limited and it's a bit dear on the road nearby.

The hotel is conveniently located on a cozy but not as busy street with a lots of readily accessible local shops and restaurants. The hotel, which has its own restaurant and bar, is elegantly designed and houses a very convenient and fast elevator. The staff is extremely friendly and happily respond to queries or additional requests. The rooms have a classic design with wooden walls and furniture. The bed is comfortable with a plenty of bedding and blankets. The bathroom has a very unique rainfall shower stylishly matched to other chrome elements of the interior such as the sink, toilet, hanging flush pull, and drying "pipes". Towels and bathrobes are provided. The room is extremely quiet and seems to be soundproofed from the neigboring rooms. Smart TV, telephone, a safe-box, coffeemaker, iron plus ironing board, boiling kettle, tea bags plus sugar, glasses and cups, hairdryer, curling iron, and Dyson fan are provided as part of the standard equipment. There is also a coolded minibar, which includes a complimentary bottled water, milk, teacakes, and crisps on the side. These treats are replenished on a daily basis. Overall, Raeburn made our stay in Edinburgh highly relaxing and enjoyable.

My fiancé and I have now been visiting The Raeburn, in Edinburgh for a few years now. What started out as a short weekend city break has turned into an annual trip, to visit the city but to get our ‘Raeburn Fix’. Whilst we love the City for all its history, beauty, food, weather and everything more, I can hand on heart say that it’s because of the relationship which was formed at the very first ‘welcome to the raeburn’ those years ago on our first visit is what brings us back each year.

Lyndsey and her exceptional team are like no other. The ship they run is incredible making it such a pleasure to stay each time and worth every penny. The decor, the buzz, the food and location is perfect. We love room 5 & 1, these are both very special rooms, finished to the highest standard and boasting amazing features such as huge bathrooms, walk in wardrobes and very comfy beds!!

The Raeburn has become part of my Fiancé and I’s history so much that I decided to propose in Edinburgh (it was the city we went to on our first little holiday), but moreover ‘did the deed’ in the hotel room. Living on the south coast of England, at first it seemed a tall order to organise everything I wanted to for the proposal itself. After suggesting it to Lyndsey, she immediately took the bull by its horns and assured me ‘we’ve got this’ and ‘it’s going to be a piece of cake’. After ordering a number of props and supplies (such as roses, confetti and lights etc) online being delivered from near and far, she took receipt of all of the bits and we worked together to have the room set up for the proposal....all as a surprise!

The proposal was perfect, went completely to plan (she said yes!), but the efforts and level of just ‘above and beyond-ness’ to help me was nothing short of incredible.

Thank you to Lyndsey Chase and her out of this world team. It gives me great pleasure with a beaming smile on my face to write this note and would encourage anyone looking to visit Edinburgh, needing a place to stay, you look no further than The Raeburn.

See you all soon.

Harry
