Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I and two friends had a delightful afternoon tea. The food was sumptuous, as a previous reviewer noted. The service from our Nepalese waitress was outstanding. We can thoroughly recommend it and would certainly return. A real treat on a cold winter's day. Well done!

Clean and comfortable rooms. Mine had everything that I needed, and I got a restful sleep and a ton of fresh air. I stayed in August and September of 2023. Jake at the front desk made my stay most memorable. I would stay here again.

Never been treated so rudely in a hotel! We arrived at the hotel and no one was at the reception, we tried to call someone and a blonde woman came to us, she didn’t seem happy to receive guests as she was incredibly rude, so unbothered to explain where the facilities and room where, when I asked which was the room number she rolled her ayes and said “ the room number is … I just told you!” The morning after we where supposed to check out and went to the reception but no one was at the desk (again) we had to ask a member of the bar if we could check out and they called the same receptionist, she came and didn’t even talked to us or asked about our stay, she took the keys and didn’t a knowledge us at all. The room was nice, and the hotel itself seems alright but I would never come back here! I understand hospitality is a hard job during Christmas but staff shouldn’t blame their frustration to guests.

I met a friend at the braid hills hotel for afternoon tea today and it was delicious and the service was good. Due to really bad traffic we were 30 minutes late and the staff accommodated us no problem. Our order was taken quickly and our tea arrived shortly after (4 tea bags a bit too much for me and we felt it a bit too strong but they brought us a second pot with one tea bag later and it was perfect). There were plenty cakes and a scone each with cream and jam as well as a delicious small serving of homemade soup, sandwiches and haggis bon bons. Overall was pleased and would come again

I would like to make a complaint about my recent stay at Braid Hills Hotel 09/12/23 - 10/12/23. We have stayed here on several occasions now and we know the standard of rooms available. We were checked into room 301 last night and the room was extremely small and cramped, not as advertised on the pictures. It was a tiny room in the eaves of the building which meant from the bottom of the bed, neither of us could stand up as the roof came down. This made it feel extremely claustrophobic. We also had a TV, as stated in the advertisement. However, this didn’t work at all so we weren’t able to use this during our stay. We complained to reception who said there was no other rooms available. The receptionist also came to try and resolve the problem with the TV, which she couldn’t. She told us she was going to ask someone to come up and have a better look at it. This didn’t happen and we waited for 2 hours for no one to come. The decor in the rest of the hotel is also falling apart - the stair carpets have duct tape keeping them together and the walls on the staircase near our rooms had wallpaper hanging off the walls. We paid £130 for one night stay without breakfast and feel the room and overall experience was not as described on the website and we will not be returning to Braid Hills Hotel.

I am extremely disappointed with the accommodation and lack of communication between staff. I had booked 4 rooms a couple months ago and they were very helpful over the phone. However last night at 12am when we arrived after a family wedding the rooms were not organised. We woke up 3 other guests rooms as the staff directed us to already occupied rooms. This was very embarrassing and disrespectful walking into some random persons rooms. The staff had no previous communications regarding which rooms we should have been allocated. It took 2 hours for us to finally get all rooms allocated. Room 315 was a very small room which hadn’t been cleaned and still had rubbish in the bin from previous guests and the tea/coffee station was left in a mess. Due to the lack of space we had to purchase an additional room which took another hour for staff to book. The additional room 334 had no heating and was freezing cold all night. I have never experienced something like this in a hotel before. I am very unhappy that this is how we ended our night walking all around the hotel with our bags trying to find empty rooms. I would never recommend this place. It was a complete waste of money. If you have to stay in Edinburgh I would stay clear from this hotel.

My husband and I visited Edinburgh for our 5 year wedding anniversary and we could have not asked for a better place to stay. The room had an incredible view of the valley, and the bed was super comfortable. We also had a little sink/ kettle area which was replenished every day with coffee, tea, milk, sugar, and biscuits. The bathroom was clean and stocked with soaps and gels. The breakfast was very good and had great variety of all sorts of food and drinks. However, the highlights of the entire stay were the staff members and in particular Magnus the lobby cat (as pictured) and Jake, manning reception. Magnus was there to greet and meow at us all times of day and night loving a good fuss and pet. He was such a sweetheart and made our stay all the more enjoyable as we are huge cat people. But the number one reason we felt like home and loved our time in the hotel even more was Jake. From the moment we arrived to leave our luggage before check in, he was incredibly helpful and immediately gave us loads of tips and local areas of interest to visit. He also upgraded our room and offered us a complimentary breakfast on our last day after he found out it was our wedding anniversary which made us really happy as we felt really looked after and cared for. Jake was there every day at various times to help us with any queries we had and was happy to chat about anything we asked. He and of course Magnus are the main reasons we would recommend this lovely hotel to anyone. We hope to be able to make another trip to Edinburgh soon and we are definitely considering staying there again if there is availability! Thank you so much to the Braid Hills Hotel staff, Magnus, and Jake for making our anniversary magical!!

Good sized room and helpful staff. Carpets on the stairs are a little threadbare, but otherwise I would recommend this hotel. It has free wifi and ample parking. Getting into the city is really easy using the local bus service. There are convenient steps from the car park to the main road where the bus stops are. Only £2 each way to Princes street. We ate in the hotel for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is a buffet, but ask if there is something else you need. Wife wanted porridge and the kitchen was happy to make some up on request. Dinner service was fine and the range of food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Beauty of staying here is its so much better priced than city centre hotels and it’s really easy to travel from here.
