Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

Had a wonderful morning at the scotsman hotel. Booked the brunch movie deal which was great value. Lovely breakfast followed by a real treat. The cinema was beautiful and Scott, the curator/barman/projectionist etc etc was friendly and professional. We were so lucky to have this amazing cinema to ourselves to watch the classic Casablanca. Cannot wait to return.

Amazing stay at the Scotsman. Lucky enough to receive a room upgrade to a city view, room was gorgeous, recently refurbished and very modern. Food and wine were delicious and staff can’t do enough for you. Worth every penny and hoping to return one day.

I've stayed twice and loved my rooms, the location and the price. I thought it better and cheaper than the famous historic Balmoral across the bridge where I've stayed previously. Add to that the new Picturehouse movie theater in the hotel packaged with dinner in The Grand Cafe, this is a total winner place to stay. I will go back each time I visit Edinburgh.

Do some or all rooms have air conditioning?
Yes, all rooms are air conditioned through a main system, not just ACs in the windows.

We would have liked to do tea at the hotel but we were usually out and about during that time and not near the hotel.

Hi sorry for the delay. Yes there is some flexibility. My daughter is vegetarian and they were able to change the tea up for her requirements. I'm pretty sure the brown bread would be available too but we didn't ask for this specifically. It's a full scale cafe all day, so I would be surprised if they didn't have brown bread!
