Absolutely fantastic afternoon tea with my sister & friend who was visiting from Canada. The staff were incredible, friendly, knowledge & just lovely. The food was tasty & the cheese souffle was the best we've ever eaten. Shout out to Lauchlan & Emma amazing staff, we were incredibly well looked after. Cannot wait to come back!

Had an amazing stay at The Scotsman Hotel. Amazing room with a great view, albeit there was a lot of roadworks and construction going on but no fault of the hotel. Had a great introduction by the deputy manager who was very attentive to our needs through out our stay. Every person we met was extremely helpful and kind. Our special thanks goes out to the deputy manager and also to the young lady (waitress with brown hair) working at the grand cafe the evening of March 11th. We are unsure of her name but she was ever so friendly and we only stayed in the cafe for one drink but she left an ever lasting impression with her wit and brilliant customer service. The best I had received in a long time! Breakfast was lovely with great choices and tasted delicious. There was an open buffet but you also had the option of ordering something from the kitchen. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay that’s local, right in the middle of the town centre and has kind and attentive staff then this is perfect for you.

Had a great reception from Kieran and Joanna at reception as well as Laughlin and Emma serving the food and managing the experience. Huge portion for veg/vegan breakfast and basic quality food but setting comfortable and hygienic as well as warm. Recommended for a traditional visit and feature in the city centre 🌹

I met family members here for a Mother's Day afternoon tea. The staff were absolutely lovely, welcoming and attentive. Our server was Maddie but the team as a whole seemed to visit our table. They really looked after us. A great experience and very nice afternoon tea, with a mother's day gift of boxed soap. Thank you! (Sadly we did not take photos as we just dived in to the delicious sandwiches and canapes, scones and cakes).

We love Edinburgh and hadn’t visited since the pandemic so to celebrate our wedding anniversary we booked a night at the Scotsman. Their care and attention to detail were flawless from start to finish. I asked on booking if it was possible to have a nice view as it was our anniversary. I had also booked early access to the room (2pm instead of 3). We arrived at the hotel around 2 and the room wasn’t quite ready. The lady on the desk gave us complimentary drinks and took off the early access premium from our bill. The room was ready 15 minutes later. The room was absolutely beautiful, as was the view. By booking directly we had a bottle of Prosecco in the room but there was also a little shot of whiskey. The staff had left us a card wishing us a Happy Anniversary which was really touching. About a half an hour later there was a knock at the door and a gentleman brought us 4 gorgeous chocolates on a plate decorated for our anniversary. I honestly nearly cried at the kindness and care this hotel had taken of us. Our stay with them was absolutely perfect. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and I’m honestly pushed to think of one that has been more impressive, both in terms of customer care and accommodation and it will definitely be my hotel of choice when I return to Edinburgh. All staff were friendly, efficient and professional and it was obvious that they were proud to maintain the standards set by this hotel. Thank you to everyone we had contact with, you were truly excellent and you made our anniversary and our visit very special.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Scotsman. I’ve always wanted to stay due to its good reputation. We stayed in a deluxe room. The rooms was clean and comfortable however everything else from that failed miserably. Breakfast wasn’t just a disappointment it was an epic fail so much so that on our second morning we didn’t return although we paid for it. The self service coffee machine is comical (from no milk, clean drawer to maintenance required) each time a member of staff required. The eggs royal I ordered was cold, hard egg, stale muffin and clearly the smoked salmon was left out. My husband eggs Benedict the same. Long waiting time. We did mention that breakfast was poor the woman in charge didn’t seem surprised ( however she didn’t deal with the situation professionally her demeanor is cold and passive aggressive) On the return from a full day out i.e 5pm there was still dirty breakfast dishes left in corridors, dirty glasses and ice buckets. My husband and I own a small country hotel up north and we pride ourselves in good food and hospitality. Sometimes TripAdvisor is not a good platform for businesses as anyone can write anything. Sadly expectations were not met and your reputation didn’t precede you.

On arrival to the hotel, everything was lovely; the room was clean and staff were lovely. We went out in Edinburgh that evening and arrived back at the hotel at 10pm and very much looking forward to an early night and a night of undisturbed sleep. However, we were woken at 3:15am to the bellows of your fire alarm, we promptly got out of bed due to the worry of a real fire and put our dressing gowns on and headed to the fire escape. We were on floor 6 and met our fellow neighbours who were struggling to open the fire door. My partner finally managed to open it and we made our way down the stairs. We were greeted with the coldness and the rain of a typical January night in Scotland… We stood for 45mins with no update. We were finally asked to make our way back in with the fire alarm still bellowing and no information if it had been a fire test or a real fire. The alarm finally went off and we got into bed, about 4am, and we were struggling to get back to sleep. Suddenly, another loud blast from the fire alarm went off again for at least 10 minutes. My partner and I started to get out our beds once again. Disturbing our sleep even more. My partner and I saw every hour tick by and we finally decided to get up at 7am to have our breakfast which we weren’t able to truly enjoy due to our tiredness. The breakfast was ok but we had to ask for a lot of things to be restocked. We checked out and told your lovely young man at reception about our discontent about our stay, to which he informed us that there was various other parties in the hotel who weren’t happy about their stay. My partner and I were truly surprised that a senior management member of staff wasn’t at the reception to deal with our complaints… the young boy didn’t deserve to feel the brunt of these complaints by himself!! To concluded, my partner and I were truly disappointed with our stay and have returned home feeling more tired than we were when we left. I totally understand the fire alarm was unfortunate on the one night we stayed but the handling of it was terrible. It is also really difficult to get in contact with the hotel…not the best. I feel they are better hotels in Edinburgh and won’t be rushing back.

Bathroom very clean and fresh great and bedroom great size lovely decor and so relaxing. Rooms had a get mini bar and little extras that mean a lot. Breakfast room was beautiful and a lovely breakfast provided. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated really convenient to the big shopping mall and princes street and the royal mall/castle. Perfectly situated to everything. A nice hotel in a good location with clean amenities & decent priced food and drink. Highly Recommend the Hyde Bar for a quiet space to work. My team was very well looked after all evening despite not making a reservation had a lovely late-lunch in the restaurant and were allowed to work both upstairs and in The Hyde bar. Special thank you to the witty little manager Orla who clocked we needed a space to ourselves and kept us very well watered throughout the evening (should be on commission for Ledaig) and to the young lad on reception who sorted us with the Wi-Fi code (free access, ok speed). Quiet music and respectful staff. Will definitely be back.

I travel a fair amount for work and invariably stay at 4 or 5 star hotels. In this instance I took my wife and two young children to Edinburgh for a long weekend. I paid £1280 for a suite for two nights in Feb and can safely say it was comfortably the worst service I can remember from any hotel, let alone a 5 star one. The check in took around 20 minutes despite me being the only one at the desk. Then the following unfolded: 1. Dinner in our room came stone cold. 2. Travel cot was broken and took 45 minutes to replace, despite saying we needed it quite urgently as our 10 month old needed to sleep. When it did arrive the guy who had been sent stank of smoke and tried to talk very loudly in the room that our baby was sleeping in, he proceeded to quiz me if the other cot (which must have been 20 years old) was actually broken...unbelievable behaviour. 3. Breakfast the next day came with one veggie and one full Scottish breakfast, we ordered two full Scottish. By the time the correct one had been bought the original one was stone cold. Raspberries for my wife were mouldy and there wasn't any milk for my child's cereal. 4. Reported all this to the manager. They offered to send up afternoon tea for my wife. It came with none of the appropriate cutlery and despite asking for two large bottle of water, two small ones arrived. She asked if two more could be sent up instead of the small ones, once again, two small ones arrived. 5. Misplaced a key card on the first day and asked to be given a new one, apparently the key card machine was broken so I had to be let in on the first occasion. I asked on the second day if I could have another key, the girl on the desk said she didn't have the right keys her end to action that so know, I couldn't. 6. Staff openly arguing on the front desk about taking a break and someone else would have to help. It's like the entire hotel was being run by people on their first day. Don't bother with this hotel, stay at the Caledonian, it's markedly better run. The Scotsman appears to me, to be a complete waste of time and money.
