I stayed here two nights for professional meetings. The location was extremely convenient. The room was slightly tired-looking, but a good size and comfortable. My only disappointment was the poor water pressure in the shower (I was on the 4th floor). There was a dispenser for shower gel but no other toiletries provided. I would agree with the previous reviewer...

This is a Bread and breakfast and it's pretty good considering that. Let me rate it individually on the following factors: Location: 5/5 heart of the city. Cleanliness: 3.5/5 acceptable but not sparkling. Housekeeping was also just okay. Bathrooms are clean thank goodness Friendliness: 2/5 the staff at the reception was so bored and unwelcoming. Housekeeping staff was very nice...

This place needs some proper money spending on it. Very tired mattress, rooms need redecorating and if they can't fit double glazing in the historic windows then at least get some sound deadening curtains - the noise from the street into the small hours is a real problem.

Stayed here for two nights and had a lovely big room with comfortable bed. Bathroom clean and of good size. Handy to have a hairdryer and fast wifi. No view from our room, 110, but we weren't there to stay in the room! Brilliant location to explore the city as very close to the castle and royal mile. Breakfast across...

We were here for two nights on our recent city break, and we thought it was excellent, and great value for money. The rooms were spacious enough but not cavernous, clean, well kept, and the whole hotel had a well cared for air. Breakfast is taken across the road at Rick's, and that was very good too, with a choice...

I booked three nights in a double for single occupation. I was actually given a triple. lots of room and the in-room facilities were fine. Milk, coffee and teabags were replenished daily - no problem over out of date milk. Bathroom was very fresh and modern. One issue I had was that the side of the bath was rather high....

Returned to this hotel as an anniversary treat as my partner and I had a wonderful stay here 7 years ago-wow was I surprised how the quality of the service has declined. There is a reason why the hotel has not won any rewards in recent years!! Yes the hotel is in a great location in Edinburgh but that is...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
