Our bedroom and bathroom were acceptable plus an alcove about 10 feet square with two armchairs, an occasional table, a TV and a desk and chair. We found it quite comfortable. Rather oddly there3 were two ironing boards and irons in the wardrobe. We had a basic double but could not say what the room rate was as we had...

Hotel is in the city centre and a short walking distance from train and tram stations Room was comfortable with ceiling fan and safe. The room was a little dated but more than adequate. Lots of electric plug points which makes a nice change. No bath mat so quite slippery in the shower (saw card later that one could be...

We had some mold in our bathroom. We complained came back from day of sightseeing bed made mold still there. See our submitted pictures. The view from even numbered rooms. Not good see pics. No air conditioner but did have ceiling fan we could find no switch for. It is close to the action and a small mall.

Great hotel just over the road and around the corner from the train station, shopping centre accessible from the hotel. Very central for bars, rose street etc, we came home at night on a Rickshaw, so funny and delivered us to the hotel door! Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
