Visited The Roxburghe for my husbands birthday in January, I looked ahead at reviews and was a bit worried when I saw that there were renovations going on. I can't say I would have known about them if I hadn't looked at trip advisor so I was glad I researched. It is a bit of a shock when you arrive...

My friend and I booked here for our xmas treat of a night away to include a spa. We only found out that there was refurbishments 2 days before we were due to go when they sent an email to say that lunch and dinner would be served in a different location and breakfast would be served in the room...

We booked a stay of two nights here and at first were a little daunted by the scaffolding covering the front of the hotel. However, once inside, we could not have asked for a more wonderful experience. The staff were all fantastic, friendly, professional and extremely helpful. Our room was beautiful and a most unusual curved shape which only added...

The hotel is in a great location in the new Town close to the west end. It was undergoing renovations whilst we were there so no food available, this didn't overly bother us as we planned on dining out anyway and the proximity of George St & Rose St gave plenty of options for breakfast. We walked from and to...

I really want to give this hotel full marks. Our room was lovely, clean, bed was comfy with everything we needed. Bottles of water, great tea and coffee selection, and a nice surprise was the breakfast in the fridge. Banana and muesli pot with orange juice. On leaving the hotel there's complimentary coffee tea and pastries near the front door....

Received a relax spa day as a wedding present and decided to stay here night of the 14th January. Decided to book a room at the Roxburghe to make the weekend that extra bit special. Lovely spa morning with 2 course lunch however no hot water on premises so unable to use the gym as no hot water to shower....

We decided to book the hotel as a luxury treat for us both to celebrate our Birthdays and have some much-needed time away. I decided to surprise my partner and upgrade our room to the superior double as we originally booked the standard room. Upon arrival, the check in process was professional and our bag was ready waiting in our...

I booked this hotel in September 2016 with a trip planned to celebrate my 50th Birthday in January 2017. By chance I checked the website a week before our trip to find that the Roxburghe Hotel is under complete refurbishment...... no e-mail or telephone call to inform us. All the treats my husband had booked such as champagne afternoon tea...

The room itself (a twin) was absolutely lovely and the day reception staff lovely....BUT the pool, sauna and steam room are well overdue a facelift...the gym also a bit sad...the treadmill had definitely seen better days, the main issue was the lounge bar, at 10:55pm we asked for a nightcap, only to endure an umming & awwing between 2 staff...

The hotel offers good quality accommodation, clean rooms and good service. The staff were great and couldn't be more helpful. At the time we stayed they were carrying out improvements and I think we didn't get to see he beat of it with no restaurant and limited breakfasts. The location is great for getting around. Would stay here again.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Roxburghe Hotel is currently undergoing a top-to-toe refurbishment. More than 100 of our bedrooms and suites have already been given a smart, new look - and it's these rooms that guests will stay in when they book accommodation. For the next couple of months, we'll be tackling many of the ground-floor spaces, including the hotel restaurant and bar. Whilst these are closed, we will serve a complimentary breakfast as room service or take-away from the lobby until the end of March 2017; dinner will be served in the lounge area and also available as room service. Travel in style and stay in The Roxburghe Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh city center. The hotel rewards its guests with an unrivaled location on historic Charlotte Square. This premier 4 star hotel has recently refurbished its meeting space, public areas and all 198 bedrooms, many with views of Edinburgh Castle. Ideally located between George Street, the stylish home of the cities top bars, restaurants and boutique shops and Rose Street with more traditional pubs and eateries. ... more   less
