Oh my goodness where do I start ? . Our taxi driver said that the scaffolding had only gone up at the beginning of the week but seriously the scaffolding does not affect the functionality of the hotel. Okay so there is no breakfast room but I personally I can cope with that and I'm sure if I didn't like...

Popped in the Roxburghe to see what was going on as it is currently covered in scaffolding. Refurbishment will be done in July and it all sounds very promising: the atrium is having a major make over with exciting project of a library and sitting space. Lovely news as this was the one area of this otherwise stylish hotel which...

We stayed here for 2 nights away. The staff was lovely and very helpful with everything that we wanted. The room was newly refurbished and it was very nice. The decoration and the little touches were perfect. There was no breakfast on with them refurbishing, but we were provided with daily fresh fruit, yogurts, milk and fresh juice. This was...

We stayed here as part of a wedding party weekend of the 10th Feb 17. This was booked last October and when we arrived the hotel is covered in scaffold and major refurb is in place. We were never informed of the work taking place or that no bar or restaurant facilities were in place. We wre only told when...

Stayed in the hotel over the weekend of 11th/12feb.First of all we knew via TripAdvisor that the restaurant and bar were under refurbishment but this in no way made our trip any less enjoyable. The hotel is in an excellent position to explore everything Edinburgh has to offer, the castle is around a 20 minute walk with plenty of watering holes to...

Spent a night here with my other half - unaware that work was being carried out but changes compensated for by great staff and lovely touches to make up for the lack of breakfast. Room beautiful with big comfy bed and although paying £22 for the night to park the car a little steep the handiness combined with the ease...

stayed here last week with my wife overnight and from the minute we arrived until the minute we left we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Prior to our arrival the hotel management had been in touch to outline the on-going works at the hotel, which won't be finished until the Autumn of this year, and which meant that the restaurant was...

Let me start with a positive - the room was recently refurbished and so was very nice: comfy bed, great shower. That's where the good news stops - I arrived at a building site. To get to my room on the first floor I had to get a lift to the second floor, walk up some stairs and down some...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Roxburghe Hotel is currently undergoing a top-to-toe refurbishment. More than 100 of our bedrooms and suites have already been given a smart, new look - and it's these rooms that guests will stay in when they book accommodation. For the next couple of months, we'll be tackling many of the ground-floor spaces, including the hotel restaurant and bar. Whilst these are closed, we will serve a complimentary breakfast as room service or take-away from the lobby until the end of March 2017; dinner will be served in the lounge area and also available as room service. Travel in style and stay in The Roxburghe Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh city center. The hotel rewards its guests with an unrivaled location on historic Charlotte Square. This premier 4 star hotel has recently refurbished its meeting space, public areas and all 198 bedrooms, many with views of Edinburgh Castle. Ideally located between George Street, the stylish home of the cities top bars, restaurants and boutique shops and Rose Street with more traditional pubs and eateries. ... more   less
