It’s a nice place. Upon our arrival, we were suitably greeted. Given basic info regarding breakfast times etc (8-11:30 i believe), and given our room key. We were allocated room 4. Up the first set of stairs (30 ish steps for reference-no lift in the hotel), is where rooms 1-3 are located. Another set of steps (50+ total) for rooms 4-6 the another set to the top of rooms 5-9. Worth noting here, we’d paid for what we believed was the best room (I’m unsure as to how many of each rooms per category they have). It was my husbands birthday and also our anniversary. So the royal mile room, that came with its beautiful linens, roll top/free standing bath etc (as per its online description). Only. It didn’t. Well not in my room anyway!? Both other rooms on our level (5/6) had their door open at one point whilst being cleaned-both were quite a bit bigger than mine. Laid out nicer. And seemed a much better standard than mine. Hmm. So was I even given the more expensive room that I paid a premium for? Maybe I’ll never know. It did state on their website that we’d receive a mini bar as part of our RM room-but that was literally some drinks that required paying for, that could literally be moved very easily between rooms. The fire escape plan on the door seems to suggest our room is the smallest on our floor too. Very suspicious in my opinion. But how would I ever know….? Something to think about. The blatant drug dealing outside our window was also really off putting. Not really what you want to see on a romantic trip away. A homeless person kicking what appeared to be a very pregnant dog, then partaking in multiple drug deals. Not nice. I know it’s not the fault of the hotels but I’m not sure I’m the first to witness it either. Now I’ve mentioned it-maybe someone can moniter it? The homeless owning dogs is rife and is really unsettling. Never any water etc. Horrible. Anyway. Back to our room. We had breakfast included in our stay. First morning we ordered. Received. Ate. Then offered our room number. No one said anything. No one confirmed we were good to go. Just left to assume all was ok-and left. The next day, the guy did ask our room number, but again, no real care no real attention no rapport. Didn’t recognise us. Ask us any questions. All very basic interaction. Not special. Definitely wouldn’t have come back the second morning had we not had it included in our stay. Completely underwhelming. We had drinks in the hotel each night. I opted once for a cocktail. Called ‘treacle’. It was £10.50 + the piss take 20% on top of EVERY. SINGLE. DRINK. YOU. GO. TO. THE. BAR. TO. PURCHASE!!?? Yep. Automatically added. So almost £13 for what was literally a whisky with what i believe to be a splash of apple juice?!? It was horrible. If I had a lighter on me and lit it, the bar would’ve gone up. It was awful. I had a sip and left it. Did anyone care? Ask why it’d not been touched? Nope. No one really cares about anything it seems. The thing is-the place is nice. Its rooms are nice and the location is nice and the bar is nice-but nice isn’t enough when there are so many other options out there. It needs something. It needs staff to care. To interact. To offer a little something!? They’d noted our anniversary and birthday celebrations-no mention of that. Nothing. I don’t know. I wanted to love it but it left me feeling cold. We won’t be back.

I couldn't recommend this boutique hotel higher . The room we had was beautiful with views from every window and a bathroom bigger than most bedrooms . The staff were all lovely and nothing was too much for them . The food was great and a bonus was having live music each night should you wish to go down and enjoy . The Inn on the mile is within walking distance to most attractions and I wil definitely be returning . Thank you for your lovely hospitality.

Four of us stayed for one night for my birthday in rooms 8 and 9, far too many stairs though tbf we could have requested a lower floor so our fault , however room 8 had the loudest whistle from the windows and it wasn’t particularly windy, all night so not the greatest sleep, sooo loud! Other than that nice and clean and comfy (high) bed

This is a handsome looking establishment, with a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices for the location. We didn't dine here, however the food options all looked appetizing. The staff all appeared to be content and engaging with their customers.

Booked for one night. Stood at what turned out to be the reception area for about 5 minutes while the staff chatted to themselves. I got their attention after a while, and their response was very ‘whatever’. Filled out a form for registration, but I don’t like putting an email down. Staff demanded I put down an email address, without any reasons. So I put down a fake one, which made no difference. So why bother? No lifts. Rooms tiny. Hot water takes forever. Was told breakfast starts at 7am. We went down all the stairs at 7.50 am. Everything was locked up, no staff. Went back up the stairs and rang the hotel. Response was, ‘Yeah, maybe 10 minutes’. I said we were told 7 am. Response was ‘Yeah’. Give us 10 minutes or so. Honestly, go somewhere where adults run the business, not kids who don’t care.

It is our utmost priority to ensure that our guests feel welcome and well-attended to at all times. We stopped by for a drink. Ordered 2 large glasses of Pinot Grigio at the bar which were an extortionate price of £9.95 each. On top of that they added a 10% service charge even although we ordered at the bar! Which they didn’t mention that would be added. Not sure why there is a service charge for when you buy at the bar? Place was pleasant enough but wine is far too expensive and no need for a service charge when ordering at the bar. Don’t think we will return!!

We called in for some pre dinner drinks of a Sunday afternoon after leaving a more than an unfriendly pub (The Malt Shovel). Staff at the Inn On The Mile were so friendly, professional and polite. Service was quick, everywhere was so clean. Really enjoyed and will definitely call back when in Edinburgh next. Please note we did not stay at the Inn we just had drinks in the bar and that is all I am covering in this review.
