This is a great hotel for any sort of trip to Edinburgh. It’s located in a quiet area just outside the city center, it’s about 3km from points of interest and easily accessed from the airport. There is a bus stop right next to it (Craigleith Road) and another one further down the road (Craigleith Drive), which makes it easy to get around, and if you don’t mind walking you can even have a nice walk to the center through the lovely Water of Leith Walkway, which is relatively close. Across the road there’s even a shopping area with Sainsbury’s, M&S, Lidl etc. I stayed here twice during my trip to Scotland and had both a simpler room without windows and a double room on the 6th floor. Both were very clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good (although it would be nice if the selection included some fresh vegetables and cold cuts as well, for a little more variety, like some tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese) and the restaurant/bar also offers great food and drinks for lunch and dinner. The chicken gyros was really delicious! Good Wi-Fi, hot water, TV in the room, luggage storage and friendly service at reception and throughout the hotel. All in all, highly recommended!

Hotel's Favourite
I had 2 bookings. One day and two nights in different confirmation, upon arrival, though the hotel was booked fully, staffs were kind enough to book me in same room for the entire time of stay. The stay was comfortable with nice breakfast though it used to get really crowded. A bit away from the city towards Glasgow direction, however was well connected by buses at all times, except for Sunday. There was a play area for children which was very unlike other Holiday Inn Express.

We was greeted by 2 very friendly and happy guys on reception. They gave us a warm welcome and told us everything we needed to know. We made our way to the room. It was bright and clean although on the small side. Had about 12 inches between my side of the bed and the window. All the usual amenities. Kettle, iron ironing board etc. good size TV. The shower looked amazing but the water pressure was a little disappointing. The bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast was ok. Was seated at a table without queuing long. It was very busy though. Sausage, bacon scrambled egg, beans. Quite basic. Some black pudding or mushroom or hash browns would have been nice. There was bread and toasters. Croissant and some other bits and bobs. It was alright but plates were tiny. The location is a bit deceiving. Looking at the map I thought city centre would be walkable. It's about 2 miles though. Having never been to Edinburgh before I imagined it to have amazing travel options like London. It don't. The tram runs basically east to west and the rest is busses or the extortionate Uber taxies. £16 I was charged to go to princes street. Luckily I discovered the bus stop over the road from the hotel. Goes straight to city centre and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel for return. So the bus is best option for getting about. I was happy with our stay but will probably choose a hotel nearer the centre when we return to Edinburgh as I've spent a mini fortune on transport.

We had no issues with our stay, friendly and helpful staff across the hotel. It is a very typical holiday inn that’s clearly had some recent improvements. Our bathroom was a little worn but it was spotlessly clean and functioned as it should. Breakfast was again standard for holiday inn, plenty of options available. It was busy at key times but you’re advised of this on checking in and the staff work their hardest to get you sat ASAP. There’s a bus stop right outside the hotel and the journey into Edinburgh is around 15 mins, we left our car at the hotel and used the buses and I’m so glad we did. By far the best bit was the view across the city from our room, surely no other holiday inn has a view like that. I’d definitely use this hotel again if staying in Edinburgh, half the price of the city centre hotels and we could park the car. There’s a little play zone for children next to the bar with a few toys and books plus a playground just outside the bar.

First time staying in Edinburgh, lovely hotel, well run with helpful and friendly staff. Bus stop outside to go into Edinburgh city is very handy. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of continental choice, but being a non meat eater limited hot stuff(veggie sausage was cooked if required),no tomatoes or mushrooms (which usually makes up my Breakfast). I would certainly return later in the year x

First time stay here, and we were more than satisfied with the experience. An exceptionally cheap off-season price was the icing on the cake. Friendly check in, and the machine by the door to pay £5 for 24hrs parking was simple to use. We were in a twin room on the 5th floor with a magnificent view of the city. The room was spacious and clean, and once we’d got the hang of the heating system it was warm. The bathroom didn’t appear to have been refurbished like other areas, but was acceptable. Beds were supremely comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was OK, and more than set us up for the day. We arrived at 8am on a weekday, and had a choice of tables and the food was hot and plentiful. (Loved the misspelling of ‘floured rolls’ as ‘flowered rolls’!). People arriving half an hour later were hard pushed to find an uncleared table or a coffee machine that hadn’t run out of coffee beans. Would definitely stay again. Shopping complex across the road, easy access to local buses - it’s great.

We stayed the 27th and 28th December for a short family trip during the Christmas period. Check in was easy and parking was no issue. £10 for 48 hours. Our room was comfortable and clean and bigger than we expected. Our room (301) was directly opposite the elevator. We assumed we would be disturbed during our two night stay but we wasn't. We walked into the city on our first night which took us around 40 minutes. An uber cost us £10.20 back to the hotel. Breakfast was standard but fresh and hot. Good service overall and I would return. Only downside was checking out. We were invoiced again for our booking which we had paid on arrival. Obviously we didn't pay again, but thought this was quite poor and we had to prove payment via Internet banking. We would return to this pleasant hotel. Oh, and great views of the city!

Feedback: only good thing about stay was city view from room. Don’t rely on bus , the frequency is less , wait time is high and they don’t arrive on time. The property is far from main city center even though 2-3 miles might sound less , one way cab 10-20 GBP, the app based cabs don’t take booking easily to this location and often cancel. On the other hand, we have stayed in several hotels across the world, this property ( Holiday Inn Express City West Edinburgh) is the most pathetic, inhuman property that we have come across during our stay 24,25,26 December 2023. If they don’t like Asian guests then they must write it on their website so that Asians don’t stay with you. They need some basic education, etiquette, manners or atleast training about hospitality industry. Why hire inexperienced staff with no knowledge of hospitality industry, on low wages? In this motel (that’s what staff calls it), only some of Asian staff is good, apart from that all other staff treat Asians very badly , they have poor training , poor hospitality , lack basic human etiquettes. They forget that they are on payroll of the Hotel company and it’s their job to welcome their guests and make international tourists feel warmth and welcome, tourists visit a new city to understand the city, experience the culture and have a pleasant time with family and children. On the day, one, around 12 pm (3-5 hours before check-in , a non-Asian lady at reception was very rude to us. Later an Asian lady was rude as well at time of check in around 4-6 PM. Breakfast is pathetic, lacks options and restaurant has poor management , they do not have enough tables and make guests wait for a long time for a table to be allotted for breakfast, they allot tables out of the turn , guests who come later are allotted good table first as per their colour , as compared to , the ones who are waiting before them. Around 5 months ago we asked Hotel in writing / email that whether there will be daily housekeeping , they said assured by email. During our stay, when we came back after our daily routine , our room was not cleaned, housekeeping didn’t even enter the room. A non-Asian staff at reception told us around 3-4 pm that they can’t do anything about dirty room nor it’s their concern to redress guest grievances and they told us to be a house keeper ourselves and clean our room ourselves like Airbnb or sleep like animals and they also lied to us and whimsically marked in their record that we have told someone that we don’t want room to be cleaned whereas we never told anyone not to clean our room nor could they show any proof that we said so, despite severs requests. More so, we requested them by email several months ago that we want daily housekeeping and they assured us about it but dismayed. DONT THEY READ NOTE ON ADVANCE GUEST REQUESTS? We felt racist behaviour at this property by staff who are happy to mock and laugh at you. If you order food online then reception doesn’t inform you that food has arrived and later they come with excuses that may be guests have activated some do not disturb service on their cheap landline phone. Later, they whimsically enter room to check their landline and find phones to be working perfectly fine. They also say it must be fault somewhere in their own system that calls are not reaching from reception to room. This exercise and harassment was everyday. Everyday in the evening, the staff enters room anytime and unannounced disturbs you in privacy even if you are in lingerie, they want eyes on room and guests all the time, they make you feel like as if you are animals and as if they are doing a favour by letting you stay at their property after charging you several pounds per night. Shameless, mannerless and uneducated people. This is a motel and a disgrace to holiday inn (IHG Group) do not stay here in your dreams these people are inhuman and will ruin your holiday and shock your conscience, for sure. The housekeeping department is working in poor conditions, one person is allotted one floor and they are not even given proper equipments to clean room and are not paid well that’s why they don’t clean room properly and are least interested in their job. As regards, dirty room, only one day, an Asian guy cleaned our room even though he was not from housekeeping and rest of staff at reception said it’s not their job or concern and they can’t do anything for dirty room for a family with child. Overall the staff (24,25,26 Dec) and HR must be fired and be never hired by anyone and in hospitality industry. IHG group must revoke their license. These people have brought shame to this charming city. Hope management and person with authority listens, takes stern action and provides adequate education and training to staff. They deliberately deactivated our room key during our stay, just to harass a family with small child and show their superiority. On the contrary to the above feedback, I must say, people in London are comparably good, gentle, humane and have etiquette. However, this property is, SHAME SHAME SHAME.
