Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

was a lovely hotel, given a prosecco on arrival, so from start to finish we had a great time in hotel. . beds so comfy. was clean, fresh, staff lovely.. we did have a bulb out and told a member of staff to which they said they would get us a bulb and they didnt.. so went 2 days with a dull room. but that didn't ruin anything. breakfast was amazing but very busy. but they top up food quick enough. even a chef making you your eggs however way u like them. staff so friendly and helpful..we ate in hotel the first night, food was amazing alot to choose from.. the alcohol was over priced tho.. as we even went to the dome(expensive restaurant in Edinburgh) where we had a couple of cocktails but fancy cocktails, and hotel have same price for boring cocktails.. plain cocktails.. so over priced in bar. but food reasonable priced.

Lots of positives- the rooms were really big and warm. It was a good location for us to sightsee. The staff were friendly and helpful. Oddly, we booked as a family and had 2 rooms on different floors. No vegetarian alternatives for bacon or sausages, we were happy with beans and eggs. I left my watch charger and plug im the hotel room - I emailed and had no reply. It took a while to find a phone number and then it took quite a few attempts to get an answer. I was promised a phone call to let me know if the watch charger had been kept aside- I offered to pay for the postage, but did not hear back. Aside from that, my family had a lovely time.

Upon arriving not knowing the area, I arrived at the blue double doors on Lauriston Place, as pictured online. There’s no sign pointing out that the main doors are actually around the back. Not a great start when it’s pouring down with rain, in the dark, and nobody initially answered the intercom. Another item to raise was the height of the hot drinks ‘bar’ in my room (211) - the worktop was so unnecessarily high that I struggled to use the coffee machine or safely pour boiling water from the kettle. I gave up using the Nespresso as I could not see the top or the machine where the pod would be inserted. Somebody with mobility problems or wheelchairs user would not be able to use this amenity - mot safe or inclusive. Nice breakfast options, but I would have liked to see pancakes or crumpets as part of the hot breakfast. A warm option without being a cooked breakfast would have been nice. The hotel could also benefit from modernisation or at least a refresh. The shower in my room was ancient! The staff at this hotel are wonderful - very friendly and polite.

Just returned from 2 night stay with pals. Weather was very cold but the hotel was lovely and want.Plenty hot water too. Our room was spotless.. Beds comfortable. Only downside was some of sockets could do with attention in our room. Also couple broken/cracked glass windows could be seen including one of ours. It's things like this that let's hotel down a little.Floor boards creaky and when in bed could feel when one of our party walked around the room. Luckily we ere on top floor so nobody above us Also upon arrival we told by receptionist bar was open 24 / 7 but sadly we came back to find this wasn't the case.. I would return

My mom and I had a great time at Leonardo City Centre. It’s a really charming, cozy hotel with such a fun history (it’s a historic maternity hospital). The location was perfect—walking distance to many sites and the hop-on-hop-off bus. BUT! We were most impressed by the customer service! Everyone at the desk went out of their way to help make our stay perfect. We want to especially shout William at the front desk who went above and beyond for us. He made out stay truly wonderful with his extraordinary hospitality.

A lovely hotel. Had a big comfortable room, beautifully in keeping with the age of the building. All staff we encountered were welcoming, pleasant and helpful, including at the front desk, in the restaurant, and cleaning and maintenance staff we passed in the corridors. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choices. If I ever stay in Edinburgh again I'll come back here!

Very average experience at this hotel. Reception staff seemed lifeless and did not ask us how the room was or anything. The room itself was not cleaned properly, dirty carpets, and the bed was not made properly. The toilet was not cleaned, and the toilet paper was not replaced over our stay. The room does not have proper ventilation and can get quite warm. Overall, it is just very basic for the price that you pay.

Stayed here for one night. Hotels in Edinburgh were scarce and expensive. Choose this hotel rather than a chain. Location is a bit out of the centre and there's no parking. We took the tram from the airport then an Uber to the hotel. Finding the entrance was tricky - it's hidden around the back and isn't the imposing (old hospital) doors at the front. Check in was okay but the hotel was quiet, no atmosphere. Room in attic fine - not as fresh as the decoration around the rest of the hotel. Good night's sleep. Breakfast in cellar room. No tables when we arrived so had to ask for one to be cleared. Offer a plated hot breakfast but had to wait a while to order. Food was okay. Same for toast (not sure why not included with first order. Only two staff working breakfast. All in all okay but three stars based on value for money - over £300 for a basic room and breakfast doesn't deserve more.

Stayed for two nights for the second time in this old favourite. Staff were welcoming and helpful with changing the room for the second night and giving advice on parking. The first night was on the 4th floor in an attic room with a large window. The room was spacious with a large double bed as well as tea and coffee facilities, a safe and a fan. The fan was essential as there is no air-conditioning in this hotel and it was still very warm in the evening. The second night was spent in a larger room on a lower floor overlooking a courtyard. It was a spacious delight with king bed and large bathroom. It was a warm night and the window sash was nailed (for safety reasons) so it could only be opened a small fraction. Fortunately a fan was provided. The night was spent with the fan set up on the window ledge. Breakfast was worth the extra cost with a good range of food on offer including haggis. Sadly the big beautiful blue door featured in the photo is locked so entrance needs to be made around the side street.
