This is supposed to be an Intercontinental hotel but they've only recently purchased. Only some rooms have been updated so if you get one that hasn't ( and, no, they won't move you), you'll be miserable. The front desk and restaurant service is dismal! You can wait in a long line just to get a table at breakfast and then wait forever just to get coffee. No customer service at this hotel and most of the staff doesn't speak enough English. There are a lot of expensive hotels in Edinburgh - stay somewhere else!…
Great staff very friendly and helpful. Agustina was amazing with us and all the staff provided a great service. The hotel is right now being remodeling. Breakfast is not great, but you can have the basic things. Although the price for that kind of breakfast was, in my opinion outrageous. We choose to go to some restaurantes nearby that offered better options. The hotel is elegant and cozy. Rooms are nice. The bathroom is quite small and does not have a big area if you have many toiletries or things that you might need in the restroom. I didn’t like. I found that I needed more space. Other that that location is great. And I would definitely go back. I hope with the remodeling processes they might built q smarter bathroom area. With a better distribution of space. …
The Intercontinental is located in a fantastic location, close to the shops of George Street and Princes Street and a short walk from Waverley railway station, along with numerous restaurants and bars. My room had a great view overlooking the Firth of Forth and Edinburgh Castle and was quiet and nicely appointed . The customer service at this hotel is excellent and throughout my stay the staff couldn't have done any more , all that I spoke to were friendly and happy to help.. I hope to return at some stage to this hotel and working in business travel myself I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Intercontinental to any of my customers…
We were just here for two nights. But it is a first class hotel and worth the money to stay here. I only had two issues with my stay. Both were minor, but here they are. First, if you want to use the gym facilities in the hotel, you need to sign up every day for a “gym key”, which looks exactly like your room key. Your room key wont get you in the door, but the gym key will. Staying more than one day? Then you will need a new gym key very day. Yes, that is right. Go down to the front desk and sign up. The other issue was the breakfast. When were were there they did not have the breakfast set up for quick service (or any other service for that matter). You would sit down and order coffee or tea and it might arrive in 15 minutes. Or maybe not. It was poor service and not to the standards of the Intercontinental Brand. So I am not sure why they did not fix it. Both days that we were there, the same abysmal service. But the rooms were exquisite and the other aspects of the hotel were up to snuff. I would definitely stay here again.…
For our first break in Edinburgh for many years, and after much research, we stayed at the George for four nights. We were most impressed with the ambience, the food and the wonderful staff. The Concierge summed it up one afternoon when, upon our return to the hotel, he greeted us with the words 'welcome home'. We had paid a supplement for a Forth view room (room 751) and on two evenings ate in the Printing Press restaurant which offered a good variety of dishes with inspired recipies. The hotel location was excellent, being just set back from Princess Street and a short walk from Waverley station…
"Stayed in the "new" wing, which was fine. Perhaps the old building has more charm, but we were perfectly happy with our room."Read full review
