A stunning hotel with beautiful rooms, a great location and great service. The team couldn't do enough for me and the amenities are fantastic. I was conscious about booking in at a hotel without a pool but honestly I wanted to spend time exploring the city anyway, so I didn't miss it at all. I just wish I could have spent more time here!

Hotel's Favourite
Our flight from Boston got us to the hotel at 8AM and we knew we couldn't check in, but Antonio's (more about staff later, b warm welcome proved to be the first of one positive experience after another during our 3 nights and one more returning from Mull!) He arranged to store bags and call when the room was ready. Then looking for a place to sit down—the lobby is lovely and in the original Georgian part, but my husband wanted to close his eyes—Dora let us into the empty library. He dozed and I took a walk. The location was perfect and we enjoyed getting to know George Street and all the ones off it. Returning at 4, (though the call came much sooner) our room had mistakenly been booked as a handicapped one (note if you need this, they are large and well equipped). We were moved to another large one with a view of the Firth, seating area and the huge bathroom with tub and shower, two sinks was so gorgeous I wished I had space in my home to duplicate it. High quality bedding in comfy bed, and just the kind of room you want to come back to after a day of much walking, which we do. It and the entire hotel was spotless. The breakfast in what was some sort of banquet hall offered delicious fresh food in abundance. Besides the buffet, you could order an omelette of any kind, kinds of eggs benedicts, pancakes, porridge and more cooked immediately. There were too many names to note and I've sadly forgotten some, but Christine, Rebecca, Thomas, Gavin, Frank, Ahmed, are a few. It sounds trite, but we really did feel part of the George family as we were there for all those days! We went off the beaten track in the city-yes went to the Catle and Holyrood-but also visited the striking parliament building and stayed to listen to a fascinating session about a report on increasing elected gender and other diversity representation plus coping with social media toxicity and bullying. Oh would that happen in Congress. A pipe dream. So, we will definitely return to Edinburgh and the George. We hadn't been in the city for many many years. Many thanks to all!!

It is a beautiful building and in a fantastic location. Near lots of good quality shops and different restaurants. The tour bus goes from St Andrews Square so that is convenient. The trams also run from that area. It is a fair walk, and some of it plainly up hill/downhill, but you can walk to the Castle and the Art Galleries. The staff are friendly and warm. Our room was spotlessly clean and kept like that for our stay. Bed was large and comfortable. Room temperature was just right for us. However it is massively let down by constant noise. We were on the 6th floor up facing a side street and yet continually woken up by noise outside which was perplexing given we were so high up! The wind howled and whistled around the windows. We could also hear a lot of our fellow guest(s) in the next rooms. I don't really expect to pay eye watering prices only to hear coughing, sneezing, talking and using the sockets coming from other rooms. The door banging situation was absurd. We had access to the Club Lounge for breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks and nibbles. It's a nice relaxing space. Is it worth the money though. Not sure! Replenishment of any food that had been eaten from the small buffet selection didn't happen unless you asked. Invariably coming back late at night and we wanted a coffee and the coffee machine had run out of coffee or milk. Some breakfast items were labelled but oddly the canape nibbles in the evening were not. It was left to my husband to sample what was on offer and advise me if they were vegetarian! Breakfast was fine with the usual menu of cooked to order items. Disappointing to find no porridge on the menu and the selection of bread for toasting was thick sourdough or what looked like supermarket brown bread. We would not stay again to be honest, mainly due to the noise.

My partner and I stayed for 1 night in January. Overall our stay was lovely however there were a few minor issues in our room that we noticed during our stay that slightly let down our expectations. Pros - From the moment we arrived, all staff member's we had the pleasure of speaking with were lovely, very friendly and helpful. - The hotel itself is very nicely decorated, smells lovely, and great central location - Great selection of teas/coffees in room - Very nice quality toiletries - Breakfast was very good. Plenty selection, everything you could want. Cons - One of the lampshades in our room was was wobbly and dented and just looked a bit tired. A small issue but it was one of the first things we noticed when we entered our room - The bathroom was lovely, however, there were some cobwebs in two bathroom corners. The wall paper was peeling slightly at the bottom, and there were multiple marks/chips out of the wallpaper. - I had requested the turndown service ahead of our stay and received an email confirmation to say that this would be in my room on arrival, unfortunately it was not. - No fault of the hotel, but our room was very noisy at night. Even with the window shut we could hear pubs/clubs until around 3am in the morning, followed by bottles crashing etc so perhaps request a roll at the back of the hotel for a quieter night. Although there were some issues, none of them ruined our stay and we would stay again but in another room and further away from George street to hopefully get a better sleep away from the noise.

A mixed bag really. If like me you have experienced the grandeur of other intercontinental hotels across Europe this hotel is another world away. It is a boutique style hotel that feels more personal. Some parts of the hotel have lots of character, particularly the main dining room which is beautiful, the rooms and particularly the corridors which are not really befitting the hotel. The decor whilst clean is if poor standard and the carpet on our floor was ripped. Check in was good and concierge were helpful. We got a call after 15 minutes to check everything was ok which was a nice touch. As a diamond ambassador member we were given an upgraded room but unfortunately our principal view was a huge industrial air conditioning unit which was a shame as if you looked left and right views are amazing. The room was well appointed. No complaints at all. The bathroom was very small and cramped but clean. The Duty Manager had left us a welcome gift and a note which was appreciated and a lovely personal touch. I found the rooms quite noisy in the part of the hotel we were in. I did have to ask the housekeepers to stop slamming doors as they cleaned the rooms. One of the things I love about IC is usually housekeepers are trained to be discreet but with the noise it was more like a Travelodge. We waived our housekeeping as we were only there 2 nights and asked for some water and coffee, but after 3 hours it had not arrived. The lovely Polish lady on reception sorted that out in minutes. Our first morning’s breakfast was a pleasurable one. Like most ICs it’s usually relaxed affair and this was no different. Our second morning could not have been different. 100 schoolgirls had descended on the hotel and it was impossible to get near the buffet. I gave up in the end. To be fair the hotel did open up another area but given the sheer numbers and impact perhaps times could have been more staggered or a seperate offering provided in the room they were seated. The breakfast itself was very nice, but a small complaint was that the bacon was hardly cooked. The hotel is well located and in one of the best addresses in the City. The staff are attentive in the main and eager to give you that Intercontinental experience. I would stay here again but would look to upgrade to a better room.

What a fantastic place to stay if you’re coming to Edinburgh. From the moment we arrived we knew it was something special - a doorman opening the door for us and taking our cases whilst giving us the warmest of greetings! First impressions were most impressive - the lobby was stunning as we walked in, smelled divine, had a wonderful ambience, and we couldn’t wait to sit and have some drinks there! Check in was fast - they even had our room ready even though it was only midday. We felt so welcome and were honestly treated like VIP’s! The room was fabulous - immaculately clean, tasteful and contemporary decor, quiet, lots of storage and plug sockets, a big comfortable bed and blackout curtains. The bathroom was scrupulously clean, beautifully fitted out and just a joy to bathe in. Even the toiletries were top notch - sold in Harvey Nichols no less! Divine!! Our stay really was perfect. The staff couldn’t be more friendly or helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they were professional and respectful at all times. They truly made us feel like special guests. Breakfast in the morning was superb. A vast array of foods to suit every requirement alongside swift, efficient service. We had the Eggs Royale which were just delicious - and we also gorged ourselves on smoked mackerel, salmon, fruits, pastries and copious cups of coffee. We were fit to burst by the end! What a great start to the day! Overall - The attention to detail at this hotel is on another level. It’s stylish, in a perfect location for exploring the best Edinburgh has to offer and is somewhere you actually want to spend time in rather than just use as a base. We loved every minute here - thank you to all of the outstanding staff who we had the pleasure of encountering - they really did make this hotel a 10/10 for us!

My wife and I were travelling for business and we spent 4 nights at this hotel in early January. The hotel was not very full and they upgraded our suite to the Ferrier suite. A lovely room which we enjoyed very much. The staff was excellent especially Ting in the Club lounge. When she found out that we would be in Taipei in a few weeks, she drew us a wonderful map with things to do and their distance both by walking and by taxi. She remembered that we like afternoon teas and many very nice suggestions and placed them on her colour coordinated hand drawn map. So sweet. We enjoyed our stay very much and encountered no problems. I have 2 suggestions for management. The first, have change for the guests. I wanted to break 100 pound note for tipping and they had no ability to do this. However, when enjoying afternoon tea at the Balmoral Hotel, I asked their front desk for change and could receive whatever selection of change I wanted. Other than this very small matter, it was a great stay in a wonderful hotel. Very much enjoyed Edinburgh as this was our second visit in 18 months. Thank you to all the kind staff for treating so well. It is very much appreciated.

Overall, this was a good location to stay with Rose Street and Thistle Street nearby. Close to the Christmas markets and easily walkable to the old town. The hotel is clean, the rooms are a good size, but there were definitely issues with our stay. The minibar was supposed to be replenished and it rarely happened. Housekeeping was quite late and a bit slap dash with replacing amenities, . There is a lot of staff in this hotel, but they’re allocated to the wrong areas. Staff stand around doing nothing while housekeeping is not up to scratch. And by that I mean the supervisor who runs around checking that everything is okay one second after housekeeping depart. More time should be spent on actually cleaning the rooms than running around and checking on everything. I think they have too many staff in the wrong areas and not enough staff actually executing tasks. Hotel seems to be completely unmanaged, the manager was supposed to call me about Issues, never heard from him/her. Never saw a manager on duty or never saw a manager supervising staff. Staff very pleasant but again, no execution. You would call about something and there was never any follow-through or the task never actually got completed. It’s all very very surface level service. The lobby area is very nice, the breakfast room is lovely and the breakfast was pretty good. It’s a chain Hotel and it feels like a chain Hotel. No personal service whatsoever. But it was pretty reasonably priced for the time of year and it’s location.

We enjoyed a fantastic 3 night stay in a City View Premium room which certainly lived up to its name. The room was a lovely place to relax after a day exploring the city. The staff were very friendly and were always on hand to help and make sure our stay was as good as possible. Would definitely recommend the hotel and the onsite Le Petit Beefbar restaurant where we enjoyed 2 fantastic meals. Our only criticism is the breakfast service which was rather chaotic at times and would benefit in some improvement but it didn't take away from what was a great stay.
