We stayed for four nights. First night was awful, our room was beside a recycling plant the noise of dumpsters emptying the bottles resulted being waken at 5am Thankfully we were moved the next morning to a quiet part of the hotel Beds are very comfortable. Breakfast was expensive in the hotel so we ate out.Loads of cafe/coffee shops nearby...

When staying at the hotel we frequented the Printing Press bar within it. During our stay we tried several whiskies on offer and were perfectly happy with the price. After spotting a whisky priced at £24 for a single measure, we purchased a double believing it would be a premium whisky and the bottle would be valued at several hundred...

First impressions of the hotel and is architecture are amazing. Our visit was last minute and it looked lovely. We had the superior room plus breakfast. The check in was fast and efficient and staff were so helpful and offered for the concierge to take our bags to the room. We were in room 112 on the first floor and...

This hotel is very centrally located but at the same a quiet, relaxing place to stay. The welcome was very friendly as were all of the staff who we met. The rooms are all very well appointed and equipped. There were some nice touches with free 'bites' to accompany your in room tea/coffee and fresh milk in the fridge. Breakfast...

We were there for two nights and its really close to the main shops and a 5-10 minute walk to the castle. We arrived just after new...

We stayed here for 3 nights, while attending a wedding. A beautiful hotel in a great location. We upgraded to a superior room, which had a great view, but not much else to merit it as superior, I suspect not worth the extra cost. The bathroom was probably the smallest I've seen in any hotel, with the most horrendous shower...

This hotel is ideal for a city break to Edinburgh as it is on George street, directly opposite the Edinburgh Dome with various other shops, bars and restaurants along this street too. It is walking distance from St Andrews square and is one street up running parallel to Princes Street (main shopping street in Edinburgh). The staff couldn't have been...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the principal. The décor inside is stunning and very warm. Our room (deluxe room with view) was fabulous, comfy bed, plenty of pillows (3 each, one of which was extra large and an extra two cushions) on the bed. The view was gorgeous at day and nighttime. The room had a smart TV which...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
