We booked this hotel initially because of its location, it was close to the Edinburgh Playhouse. Although a bit expensive it proved to worth the money. Check in was really pleasant mainly due to the receptionist who was polite and knowledgeable. Our room was a typical bistro hotel room, bright, modern and a bit quirky, and very importantly clean. Breakfast...

Great location for walking into town, also not far from the local car park.Rooms are small and the corridors were noisy. Polite staff and great rooms! There was a power cut for a couple of hours which wasn't ideal, couldn't straighten my hair or get ready properly, the staff were apologetic however I was expecting them to maybe give us...

The hotel is next to a building demolition site. The noise and view is un pleasant. There is a chronic hot water problem , I was there for four night's with endless promises that it will be fixed. There is no management on hand , just the reception stuff trying to apologize. The only thing going for that hotel is...

Location was fantastic with team to airport at the door and also many bus routes. The hotel is clean and staff are friendly. The rooms are quiet small and the bar is tiny!!! I like the idea of a hotel being around €100 a night which this was considerably more than, so not great value. But all in all for...

We stopped here for 2 nights using IHG points. On arrival the reception staff checked us in. Not essential but could have shared more useful information such as the location of dining room, breakfast times, lift location etc. Bar & dining staff are very friendly & helpful. The room was average, a good size for 2 people. Could have done...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
