For over a century, The Balmoral has found a home at Edinburgh’s most prestigious address, No. 1 Princes Street. A landmark Rocco Forte hotel set in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, The Balmoral combines stunning views and warm hospitality with world-class facilities to create the perfect urban retreat. The perfect marriage of tradition and modernity, each of the 167 rooms has been individually designed by Rocco Forte Hotels’ Director of Design Olga Polizzi. Elegant and stylish with unmistakably Scottish accents, each of our 20 Edinburgh suites are generous with magnificent views. Enjoy 4AA Rosette dining at the famous Number One restaurant, sample modern Scottish Afternoon Tea under the glass dome of Palm Court or relax in the serene sanctuary of The Balmoral Spa. Brasserie Prince, launched in 2018, celebrates a 'new alliance': matching the very best of Scottish produce with classic French cooking, while The Balmoral’s signature whisky bar, SCOTCH, pays homage to Scotland’s national drink and is home to one of Edinburgh’s largest collections. Take a seat on one of the tweed sofas and let a kilted Whisky Ambassadors help you choose from over 500 varieties. The Balmoral is the perfect home-from-home to discover Edinburgh and Scotland’s finest attractions. Whatever the season, the hotel’s dedicated Concierge team can open doors to some of the most unique experiences in Scotland. From tickets to the world-famous Edinburgh Festival events, access to the city’s royal establishments - Holyrood Palace and the Royal Yacht Britannia – to the hotel’s Tartan Butler Clan Tour, you’ll find the best of Scotland at your finger tips.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Overall we loved the hotel and I always wanted to stay but not sure I would again. Staff all lovely and our room was gorgeous with amazing bathroom. However, our sleep was ruined by the poor quality pillows. We ordered 2 more each after less than perfect 1st nights sleep but the ones we got were still flat and uncomfortable. Bed was quite firm too but that's just personal taste I know. Was surprised no Scottish shortbread in room either or any biscuits come to that!

The Mercure was in a fabulous position in Prince`s Street, overlooking Prince`s Gardens and the Old Town. In view of our arriving early, the receptionist allowed us to store our until our rooms were ready, which meant we didn`t hve to carry them round Edinburgh all afternoon. We were upgraded to refurbished, front-facing bedrooms. The service was terrific. We sere served a lovely breakfast on the morning before we cheched out.

Service makes this hotel what it is. You get the feeling the staff sincerely care about your needs and will do anything they reasonably can to make your stay memorable and as hassle free as possible. I felt that my custom was valued and that I was treated as an individual rather than just a number.

The Balmoral is a classic. Walkable for everything in downtown Edinburgh. The staff are smart, experienced and welcoming. Pricey - but worth the investment. We will definitely stay there again. Not many hotels still offer overnight show cleaning and polishing!!

Wonderful stay at this fantastic hotel. From beginning to end we have been continously impressed by the high quality and attention to detail. We went for my 40th birthday and the staff were kind enough to make a fuss on arrival and leave a card and macarons in our room. The room (an executive double) was spacious, the shower was great and the bed was sublime. The hotel bar has atmosphere and is inviting. The staff, without exception were friendly, efficient and welcoming. Although we never ate in the hotel, I have no doubt that the food would be the same exceptional standard as every other aspect of the hotel. This is probably one of the best hotels we've stayed in. I would definitely recommend without hesitation and would certainly return.

A warm welcome on arrival, we had one room on the 3rd floor and one on the 4th floor. First impressions were very good, there were crumbs under the tea coffee cabinet in both rooms, not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel however, thankfully ever other aspect of the rooms and bathrooms were spotless. Breakfast was great on the first day, on the second day chaotic and items not stocked up promptly. We asked four different staff members for an item and were eventually told after 10 minutes they had run out and then appeared with some. The staff were very attentive but lacked consistency in the breakfast experience. Bar service was excellent and loved the atmosphere as we had pre-dinner drinks on both evenings of our stay. Overall a lovely stay, friendly attentive staff throughout the hotel and a hotel steeped in class and history.

Dear GR1UK Thank you for choosing The Balmoral as your residence whilst in Edinburgh and for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. I was sorry to learn that there were a couple of housekeeping issues and also that on the second day breakfast service was not as it should have been. I will take these comments on board and discuss with my Directors of Housekeeping and Food & Beverage accordingly. I am delighted that otherwise you enjoyed your stay and particularly our bar. I very much hope we shall have the great pleasure of welcoming you back in the future. With all good wishes Andrew McPherson General Manager
