We arrived at the hotel early to drop off our bags and the staff were very accommodating and said if we'd like to wait 10 minutes our room would be ready which was very helpful as we arrived around midday and check in wasn't supposed to be until 3 o'clock. We stayed in a deluxe double room which was lovely,...

Room booked by a friend over from Australia. Twin room booked for me, room was fine and spacious, bed comfortable. Young chap who checked me in was very nice and welcoming, as were other staff members. Only black mark on this was the elderly gentleman who seemed to have a major problem with people! Kept staring at us and generally...

I was so happy at this hotel. Everything was very nice, and I felt welcome and well taken care of. I even got individual French Press coffee when I said I didn't want the instant in the room! Very comfortable, cozy, safe and the staff are helpful, especially Munish and Aram. Breakfast was very nice. The location is good, walking...

Great independent hotel in a quiet mixed residential street of georgian townhouses. It was just 2/3minutes from the tram and Haymarket station, two stops on the tram from Princes St. Small hotel with just seven rooms. On check in we were greeted by Alam who was extremley friendly and helpful. We upgraded to the Deluxe room with King bed, the...

My friend and I stayed at No.32 for one night only whilst attending a wedding reception in the city centre. We were both pleasantly surprised at the overall standard of this 3* establishment. We were greeted at check-in by a friendly lady (owner maybe?) who talked us through our location and how to reach various transport links - both train,...

Had trouble getting in, had to ring the bell, bang on the door and telephone. Finally got in to be met by an aggressive drunk owner who seemed rather annoyed we had turned up. Hotel was very nicely decorated and clean and the room very comfy. In the morning the power had tripped in my elderly mother's room and when...

I checked in on 21 November at 22:30 due to flight delays. It took me having to ring the bell about 5 times to get someone to open the main door. I was waiting outside for over 10 minutes in the cold and rainy weather. When the person eventually opened the door, he was extremely drunk and irritated by my...

The hotel is in a large old house on a quaint street of similar large old houses. It is very close to the Waverley train station. Several bus lines and the tram make getting around quite easy. Breakfast was quite good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A couple of decent pubs close to the train station, and reasonable...

Stayed here for 3 nights. Room small but immaculate. Breakfast was lovely, and tasty. Room wasn't ready for us when we checked in but we could leave our luggage at reception. I think it was the owner that stayed at reception, he stayed there all day, looking out the window which was a bit uncomfortable as he didn't speak to...

The hotel is clean and the staff very pleasant. Ideal location and all rooms ensuites. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment on this but believe it is a full Scottish breakfast for a very reasonable charge. Rooms vary in size but have the amenities you need. My only comment would be that on the three nights our party stayed...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
