A pretty new hotel in nice quiet area on edge of Old town in "Quartermile" next to Edinburgh University. Well equipped, clean rooms. Nice and very helpful staff. Included breakfast is relatively standard (bacon, sausage, eggs, pastries, cereals, etc). Don't let map location of hotel keep you from booking, if you are looking for a hotel close to everything. Primary... More

Stayed here whilst attending a conference. The hotel is situated in quarter mile which is very close to the centre. I booked a Larger Studio. The room was very big and included useful items such as crockery and cutlery. The temperature and lighting was perfect. The room also included breakfast which wasn't incredible but was decent nonetheless. Would recommend for... More

Stayed for a business trip that extended into a holiday. A great facility, wonderfully located next to the University of Edinburgh and right at the entrance to The Meadows; a short walk to the Royal Mile and the Old City. Unhappily the walls of this new property are paper-thin, particularly if you are assigned an adjoining room you didn't need.... More

Have stayed here a number of times on business. This was my first 'leisure' stay. Reception staff are on the ball. The rooms are nice, large, with a kitchen, and always clean. Very good showers. Although fully booked, the hotel was pleasantly quiet. The lifts are operated using your room key so that adds to the security. The breakfast is... More

We spent 4 nights in this hotel during our UK/Ireland trip in May 2016. After 6 nights in a tiny hotel room in London, we loved the Residence Inn. Our room was on the top floor with a balcony. The room was spacious with a queen sized bed and a sofa with coffee table as well as a table to... More

Stayed here two nights. Clean, modern and new. The location was excellent as it's a very short walk to the Royal Mile or the bus stop which can take you anywhere. The breakfast they provide is a great start to the day and a fun way to get to know fellow travelers. The room was large with everything we needed.... More

Very nice place, clean and comfortable . Great location and easy enough to walk to from Waverley station, about 16 mins. Breakfast was delicious with plenty to choose from, Also provided plastic tubs and coffee cups to take away the pastries or fruit which came in handy for the long journey home. Would definitely stay again!

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights during the Edinburgh Festival on holiday. We actually changed rooms the second night so as to have a 1 bedroom suite, which the hotel gave us at the same rate! The staff were superb, the modern decor fresh & comfortable and the kitchenette in the suite is just right for a short... More

This is a modern European style versus North American Marriott Hotel. Located in an older district of Edinburgh , it's an ideal location for walking the city. Restaurants nearby within a short walk. Good breakfast. Parking underground. Excellent staff. Pricey.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
